View Full Version : Best and most comfartable shif knobs
magixpuma 11-14-2004, 11:49 AM Hey guys, yes its me again to shove my opinion in your faces on my all time most comfartable shift knobs.
Im tall enough in my rx8 that i have to keep my seat in a position that teh stock shift knob cant do its job well,
weather or not i put my hand ontop like a t shifter not long enought to prvide comfort and i slip.
hold it like a pistol style just to small.
So my friend brought his mustang lx the 80's coupe and i saw his shifter and said this must be awkward and im like wow Its so comfartable and you get full controll.
he had it slight off center so it gove the most relaxed angle the hand has so it was more \ rather than - it wasnt that harsh of a angle though.
There def not the pretiest but there the best. and im ordering 1 of each style
magixpuma 11-14-2004, 11:50 AM by the way the one on the left has less palm rest and the 1 on the right has more palm resting area.
Redlinin 8 11-14-2004, 12:11 PM eh....i like round shift knobs
valpac 11-14-2004, 12:27 PM no complaints from OEM knobs. whatever floats your boat.
RXE16T 11-14-2004, 09:45 PM I prefer Greddy(Trust/Grex) shifter.
Racer X-8 11-14-2004, 10:14 PM comfartable? Hehe. That's funny.
What's the oem stick thread size anyway? (My son got an oem rx8 shift knob for his rx7 and he wants me to shorten the stick, so I gots a kneed to know the thread size, for when I cut the threads on the shortened stick.)
MELRX8 11-14-2004, 10:22 PM comfartable? Hehe. That's funny.

Team Voodoo shows the thread size as 10 X 1.25 mm :)
IZoomZoomI 11-14-2004, 10:32 PM oem knob is kinda bulky, it is original though. The ms knob is real comfortable, i find shifting is a lot easier and quite smoother.

btw. I had no idea how heavy the oem knob is, it feels like its made of lead. Intentionally weighted from what i was told.
MELRX8 11-14-2004, 11:00 PM Thanks!!!

I was surprised too when I removed it to install the Voodoo knob. The lighter knob in concert with the Redline oil makes for smoother lighter shifting.
quack_p 11-15-2004, 02:50 AM This is for AT only, right? I can't see a shifter like that working for an MT. You're not supposed to rest your hand on the shifter in an MT, are you? Click and Clack say it causes excessive wear on the gears.
Vertigo-1 11-15-2004, 03:41 AM I bought the rotary shaped knob for my AT RX-8, haven't had comfort problems so far, although I'll admit the stock knob is more comfortable. The rotary knob is a bit taller than the stock knob.
magixpuma 11-15-2004, 06:17 AM Its not for resting its so you can get the grip of your whole hand on there and really pull and push through those gears easier. It feals like a dirt bikes handle bar where you can really grip and just pull down teh throttle.
zevans 11-15-2004, 10:57 AM I prefer a shift knob that allows me to get the best from the car... that would be a shift knob attached to an MT then. :P
Mikelikes2drive 11-16-2004, 06:38 PM I really love my mazdaspeed shift knob
