I was wondering why China hasnt started manufacturing any automobiles? They are slowly taking away the US steel industry. While working with a pipe producing company, I have seen how the price of steel has almost doubled in the past year because of the Chinese being able to produce pipe cheaper. I'm not entirely sure how their economy is doing right now, but it would appear that its doing fairly well. Just curious...I not looking forward to buying Chinese cars, but I was just wondering why that havent made any.

They have. Pretty much every auto manufacturer in the world is involved in joint ventures with Chinese companies and either has already set up manufacturing plants or they're under construction. China's auto industry is the fastest growing in the world by several orders of magnitude - but there's such huge internal demand that they won't have export capacity for quite a few years.

Volkswagen has been manufacturing in China for 10 years.
Besides a few state-owned car manufacturers, the Geely group is a privately owned car manufacturer. http://geely.en.alibaba.com/product/50014464/50079130/Scooters/Automobile.html

China is starting to suck up more oil than the West. Their factories and power plants are horribly inefficient at present and I doubt that will ever change. There is going to be a big oil showdown in the very near future...

And you know what happens when the US goes into a showdown over oil...it'll be Iraq all over again. Things are going to get very interesting in about 20-25 years. Thats when the oil supply is predicted to be pretty much extinct. We will never run out of oil because it is constantly being produced, but we are using it much faster than it is getting produced. I Just hope they can make some kind of synthetic gasoline that will work in our cars.
I wish people in this country would come to their senses and start supporting public transportation. Having each person with their own gas-guzzling SUV, all idling on the freeway for several hours a day is a really stupid way to waste our natural resources.
