View Full Version : my only gripe
bassik277 05-09-2003, 10:08 PM I love everything about this car, and consequently im getting one, but who else here cant stand that zoom-zoom song? it pisses me off, everytime i hear it!!!!! with the obnoxious jamaican guy singing to the f$%king annoying bombo drums. Mazda, do us all a favor and remove that theme song from all of your marketing endeavors
rotory_it_up 05-09-2003, 10:15 PM I certainly hope they don't use it in the 8 commercials, but damn it sticks in my head.
Zoom Zoom zoom........Zoom Zoom zoom....Zoom Zoom zoom.....Zoom Zoom zoom......Zoom Zoom zoom.......Zoom Zoom zoom............................Zoom Zoom zoom................Zoom Zoom zoom...............Zoom Zoom zoom..................Zoom Zoom zoom............arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh

maverikk 05-10-2003, 02:03 AM Zoom Zoom is okay for me! I actually LIKE it
MrWigggles 05-10-2003, 02:19 AM Maybe we've all heard it too much, but I like it also.
At least for the Mazda 6 commericials they remixed the song a half dozen different ways.

rotarypower 05-10-2003, 03:30 AM omg. i can't stand it either. that song is annoying.
IGOZMZM 05-10-2003, 04:25 AM It sounds by all the griping over the zoom zoom ad campaign that it has been a HUGE success for them ;) It's stuck in your head, if you hate it or like it...... either way you remember it and that's a big part of marketing. So in that respect I am cool with it and besides it could be worse....
ZoomZoom 05-10-2003, 07:10 AM Many different media sources have commented on how effective the zoom zoom campaign has been for Mazda, and I believe that zoom zoom truly captures the spirit of Mazda.
What do I think... just take a look at my handle.
RotaryStalker 05-10-2003, 08:47 AM The kid's getting annoying as well.. He's nearly as bad as that Dell kid (luckily he was busted for possesion).

StephenF 05-10-2003, 09:11 AM I love the Zoom Zoom song! I want to get it on CD and play it while I'm driving my Protege5 :)
I don't particularly like the techno or faster versions though. I think the "classic" version is the best.

I always wondered why Dell dropped him.
RotaryStalker 05-10-2003, 09:48 AM He was actually dropped because he became annoying to a lot of people, mainly young people. They changed the campaign to begin to phase him out quickly. It was around this time he got busted for possesion of weed.
Eventually market surveys will show that zoom-zoom isn't generating any more sales. If zoom-zoom becomes annoying to the market they'll change it completely. The Dell dude campaign raised sales by over 30% for Dell as well.

Dell sales seem to have increased 30% every year for aout the last decade. I think it is hard to attribute this to the pothead.
RotaryStalker 05-10-2003, 11:50 AM Dell gained an additional 8% of market share after beginning to use the Dell dude.
"Dell is enjoying the Steven exposure all the way to the bank. The company says its recognition factor has doubled. "

Majorly succesful marketing campaign.

SA22C 05-10-2003, 01:09 PM I liked the slogan Mazda used a couple of years ago.
"Get in. Be moved."
Personally, I thought that described Mazda to a tee. My buddy owns a 86 Corolla GTS and I let him drive my car the other day. About half-way to our destination, he leaned over and said "This car is really fun to drive. I can't put my finger on it, but it's just a blast!"
But Zoom-Zoom has really catapulted Mazda into the public eye again. Everyone knows that song and the quirky cars that accompany it. I think that the RX-8 will have it's own ad campaign, because it's so different from everything out there, including most of Mazda's lineup. The current spread ad from Car and Driver typifies this.
StealthTL 05-10-2003, 08:16 PM Could be worse, if you listen to the Japanese ad, the one singing "My wish comes true", it really sounds like the 'LoveBoat'
theme.....

Ren-gen 05-10-2003, 11:43 PM I hope Mazda will do something like the 99 Miata in the dessert (with all the satellite dishes), when it was introduced. That "Crystal Method" song was sweet. I'm sure the dessert part will happen, since they recently did it with the 6, but I hope they use something other than the Zoom Zoom music. I don't mind the kid, at the end, whispering "zoom zoom".
ZoomZoomH 05-11-2003, 12:00 AM watch they bring out that 'the greatest love' song from the Japanese ads.
Mazda marketing people, being the smart people they are, may just do it and ruin a good thing :o
If I was to design the marketing theme for the RX-8, I will skip the 'zoom zoom zoom' song, pick a NON-TECHNAL, somwhat fast-paced song, and just has the kid saying 'zoom zoom' as the Mazda logo pops up at the end of the commercial :)
damn I should go into marketing for Mazda so I can bring that 'greatest love' song here :D

That sounds a bit trifling, was the car the cherry on the cake? ;)
joanie 05-11-2003, 10:47 AM Hi,
I like it, and I can't f@$*ing wait til I get mine.
Zoom f@% Zoom!
Ren-gen 05-11-2003, 05:43 PM I believe the Miata was the icing "on" the cake. ;)
billdo 05-11-2003, 10:48 PM Zoom Zoom is great. I dont think it has reached the cult status and popularity of " I've fallen and I can't get up" yet, but it has been very effective.
