View Full Version : Neighbors Neighborly?
Like Whoa 11-09-2004, 12:14 PM how is your relationship with your neighbors? do you like them or hate them?
i like 1 neighbor and the other i fudging HATE!
my next door neighbor is a cop, hes cool i like him. i wave and he waves back (good relationship sorta) the other neighbor, he called the cops on me like 4 times. hes across the street from me and over 1 house, so i dont understand why he would ever call the cops for a noise complaint. this neighbor also yelled at me once. me and my boys were throwing football on the street and the ball landed on his yard and he flipped out on us! he was like "GET YOUR BALL OFF MY DAMN YARD!!!" screaming!! and i'm like chill out old man, i dont think that was a good thing to say, if anything it just pissed him off more
Icemastr 11-09-2004, 12:17 PM Sounds like your kids need to learn some discipline, recklessly throwing a football into an old man's yard. You know they kill people for doing that in some countries?
I don't know if I call just waving to each other and never speaking to each other, or maybe said Hi one time count as a relationship.
Not much you can do with grumpy neighbors, just try and be considerate of them.
Meowloud 11-09-2004, 12:36 PM No problems with my neighbors. :)
My favorite one is this 68 yr old, alone, retired guy. For Halloween, he invited a few of us over for "Trick-or-Drink"! :D
TODreamer 11-09-2004, 01:43 PM I'd rather not deal with the neighbors at more than a "hi/bye" level... nothing against them... I just don't need to be getting all "Social" at my home too when I gotta do that for the majority of my days at work/business.
Luftwaffle 11-09-2004, 01:49 PM We should get Shigg and rotarygod in on this thread, they'll tell us all sorts of stories. I used to have problems with my neighbors, but they're not around anymore. ;)
I have no problems with my current neighbors, other than the cat that drags birds onto the SUV and pees on my 8.
Aratinga 11-09-2004, 01:55 PM I rent a condo; it's an end unit, so the good thing is that I only have one neighbor. The bad news is, their kitchen wall is my bedroom wall. When they bought their unit several months ago, they started gutting the place and re-doing the bathrooms, kitchen, floors, carpets, etc.
They choose the oddest hours to do the work! I think they must be at their jobs until 9PM, because they really get started on the hammering, powersanding, etc. after 10 PM. It got so bad one night that the b/f had to go over and ask them to stop so we could sleep. They'll stay up until 2AM working on the place; the light will be on in their back yard which, of course, shines right through the blinds in my bedroom.
Other than that, they're okay neighbors, though -- at least no screaming bratty children like the previous family there had. Now the dude across the alley with the garage band is another story.... if he could actually PLAY, it would be okay I guess.
rotten42 11-09-2004, 02:17 PM I think that it is almost impossible to have two good neighbors.
In each house that I've owned Its always been one very cool neighbor and one @sshole.
My current situation...Neighbor #1 layed back couple with grown up kids (the one girl is a cheerleader for the local football team - she brings her cheerleader friends over alot +++++) , likes to party and treats my young kids like gold
Neighbor #2 - has like 500 kids all ages (Morman), about 8 cars with no place to park them and has a small poodle like dog that when ever it gets out of the yard, it heads straigh to my place to crap on my lawn!
I'm thinking of putting a sign on their front lawn...
House for sale...
by neighbor
One neighbor I like, the other I hate. I almost had to pummel him in his drive way.
He (and his family) dont like my dogs (sheltie/mini dachsund). He was constantly taking shit to my mom when she came over(?) and to me girlfriend (psuedo wife) when she got home.
One Saturday morning while I was still sleeping he ran into our backyard trying to catch my dogs, then yelled at my girlfriend (in her face) saying he was going to kill my dogs.
So naturally she came upstairs and told me what happened. I calmly got dressed, walked over to his driveway and told him in a round about way that he is to NEVER speak to my girlfriend (or mom) again or threaten my dogs and that if he did there would be consequences. I told if has anything to say he better say it to me, and if Im not home.. he better wait for me to get home. He didnt say a F*cking word while I was yelling at him.
He ended up calling animal control on me, saying my dogs are in his yard. Well there not, the leashes they have go riiiggghhhttt up to the property line.
That has been the end of it. He planted some bushes to seperate the property lines in the front yard and has never spoken a word to anyone again.
ricecookie 11-09-2004, 02:29 PM I have some FOB neighbors. Our cat got out in our apt building one day. Instead of knocking on our door or posting a found poster, they call 911. 911!!!! Who calls 911 for a cat?!!!!! Grrr..........
Astor 11-09-2004, 05:12 PM I have a couple that lives next door, they are both doctors at Vanderbilt, I try to stay friendly with them. My other set of neighbors are very strange, and the guy won't sell me his Charger, even though it hasn't been moved in at least 4 years.
I have a nice old lady who lives across the street I help out sometimes. Not many kids in the neighborhood.
G-ReX 11-09-2004, 06:35 PM we're lucky. We live on a cul-de-sac with great neighbors. Of the 9 families, we're very friendly with 5, casually friendly with 3, and the other is odd, rumored to be an occasional cross-dresser. One's a shriner, two are contractors, a couple who are fire-fighters, 3 are recently retired military and 1 is a British army officer (that family is right out of a sitcom!). A lot of kids our kids' age and everyone helps everyone else out. Very cool place.
Toadman 11-09-2004, 07:14 PM Sounds kookie, but the best way to defeat a potential enemy is to make friends with him/her with acts of kindness. They'll either soften or be caught completely off-guard and they'll twist in agony as their plan to validate their opinion of you is demolished. :D Try it... It's sick and twisted and takes patience I know, but you never know what the outcome will be. And you can say that you at least tried to the cops(with witness affidavits). Trust me, it works regardless of the outcome. :D
(that family is right out of a sitcom!) The Osbournes? :p
Icemastr 11-09-2004, 07:35 PM I live in an apartment complex right now and I have this ^^neighbor^^ that lives several units down and he has one of those loud @$$ RX-7 pos's and he likes to take it out all the time and drive all fast up the street by our apartment, luckily he is gone away on business all the time so he only does it like once every other week or so :D
WildOne 11-09-2004, 08:51 PM I live in a pretty great neighborhood. With the exception of one, which we call "the crazy lady" is and truly loco.
We usually get together on Fridays and party. Usually in our garage. We have a tv, pool table, fridge, stove etc. It is a great way to have fun and not have to travel. We fry chicken wings and whatever else anyone wants, fries, pizza rolls, egg rolls, you name it. We really have fun. If not in our garage, in one of the other neighbors garages. Lots of fun.
G8rboy 11-09-2004, 09:24 PM I am very lucky with my neighbors- we've all become close friends and hang out just about every weekend. Bonfires and swimming in my backyard all summer, Texas hold'em, shooting pool, karaoke and mass amounts of drinking in my basement every weekend.
Funny thing is how much different the midwest is from Florida- no matter where I lived down there nobody was friendly enough to socialize- just waves from a distance. Up here it's so much more friendly... strange
Elara 11-09-2004, 09:30 PM We have great neighbors- they're always bringing us food. The couple next to us is Cambodian, and the couple across the street is Korean. The food is AMAZING!
The family next to us is a little whacked though. Right after they moved in, they were all out side chopping down trees, and the mom was shrieking(in Chinese) at her husband and son and another guy that lives there. She was shrieking so loudly it was echoing around the neighborhood. She made her son take a chainsaw to a HUGE pine tree and would have dropped it on their house until my husband ran over and pointed out the tree was aimed right for it, and they needed to call a professional. They actually hired some guys to get take down some trees a few weeks back, and now there are about 15 giant pine trees in pieces scattered over their yards. It's reallly weird. They seem nice other than that, though...

Maybe that's a Chicago area thing. I live in a townhouse and all of the neighbors seem to make a point of frequently gravitating toward our place for bonfires, cards, and any other activity that involves drinking. We have a great time. I lived in California for 5 years and most neighbors ranged from unresponsive to f-ing a-holes.
