View Full Version : What will you get on your license plate?
HalleysComet 05-09-2003, 04:01 PM Are any of you getting custom plates made for your RX-8? I am up in the air over what to get on mine. RX-8, Zm Zm Zoom, My RX-8, Area RX-8, Comet RX-8 or something along that line. I'd love to hear what you are getting on yours.
Hercules 05-09-2003, 04:05 PM Either "SHYTOY" because my first name is Shayaan :)
Or, "RENESIS" for obvious reasons :)
Maybe I'll just do a "SHAYAAN" :D
IGOZMZM 05-09-2003, 04:21 PM IGOZMZM - that is my current plate on my 2001 Miata, and I plan on using it on my RX-8 unless I think of something better between now and then.
zoom44 05-09-2003, 04:58 PM there are a number of suggestions in the vanity plate thread (http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=214&perpage=15&highlight=plate&pagenumber=1) as well a link from toadman so you can see what yours will look like. mine will be like this:

Is it legal to have foreign plates in SoCal?

absolutly not:D
Renesis08 05-09-2003, 05:57 PM Are you going to put them in the front only or in the back as well? Are you sure? I don't know the plate laws too well here in SoCal. But I have never been pulled over for not having a front plate.
eccles 05-09-2003, 06:42 PM If I go with the Blue, then I'll reuse my existing BLU TOY.
If I opt for Yellow, I'll probably try for XLR-8 or N-VIGR-8.

$10.00 fix-it tickets up here in San Francisco County. I rarely get them, and the minimal price is worth the cooling and styling advantages.
evel333 05-10-2003, 10:49 AM As far as plate goes, I was once thinking of something with my dispatcher number, but thought it would be pretty pathetic and embarassing if I ever got fired or laid off.
Currently, I'm thinking of something that incorporates my transition from 7 to 8, acknowledging I was once a proud FD owner, just so people who know will know.
Can you get away with just putting the front license plate on the dash of your car? I mean, for all intents and purposes, the street cameras can still get your plate # through the windshield? Or have a sticker we can put on the top left portion of the windsheild (actually one of those plastic things that can be removed w/out the goop).

rotarypower 05-10-2003, 04:17 PM how much does personalizing your license plate cost? if it isn't too much, i'd go with my sig. :D
RTRY PWR
maybe? :p

there was a big debate on rx7club about this. some people said they talked to cops and they said it was illegal and some people said they talked to cops and they said it was legal.
imo if ur not gonna have em in the front then u mine as well not have it in the windshield. i dont think theres a grey area, either its lega or its not. plus it looks ugly in the windshield also especially from the inside.
jbart1981 05-10-2003, 09:41 PM mine will be UOMO

Here's a interesting thing to watch. When you drive to work or go somewhere, take a chance and notice how many cars you pass that don't have a front license plate, especially in states that require them. It's almost a Gray law, most states require them, but it's not inforced, unless you are a jerk to the cop when you got pulled over for a some other violation. Most cops don't pull people over because it's not worth their time, but if you don't have it when they pull you over for speeding. They will most likely right you a fix it ticket.
MrWigggles 05-11-2003, 01:36 AM I have no plans of putting my front plate on.
If I get pulled over for speeding and they also give me a plate violation, it will give my lawyer something to plea bargain with to get the moving violation dropped. (i.e. pay the plate fine and have the speeding dismissed)
BTW, a really bad plate:

lol sorry but i just couldnt resist
Lock & Load 05-11-2003, 05:31 AM I will try and get away from putting on a front plate ,i have my plates as RXB88 OR MRXO8 CANNOT DECIDE BETWEEN THE TWOoRDERED LIGHTINING YELLOW SPORT PACK.
I was thinking of RTRY PWR (saw someone else post this), or WNKL PWR or WNKL DRVN Or MZDA RX8 or LUVMY8 or something to that effect. So I think I can get a plate that suits me, I have a lot of choices.
Saw an accord the other day with "7777777" so "88888888" would be cool! Or if you want to confuse the coppers. "B8B8BB88"
LOL
rotory_it_up 05-11-2003, 10:11 AM Toadman posted this on the other personalized plate thread.

8 is lucky number in asia. alot of people in asia chose to put alot of 8's in their license plates, cell phone #'s, and other everyday things.

HI OFICR
I am going to try without the front plate and see if it causes me any grief. Only problem is, I don't think the combination of the license plate and driving in a badass car like the RX-8 will let me get off with a warning like I usually do.

91vert 05-21-2003, 09:16 PM I have my form from the state to fill out for my personalized plates. I have never gotten personalized plates in the past, and I was wondering what happens if all of the choices I list, which is a limit of six, are all taken up?
Do they just reject you and make you fill out another form?
I am trying to make my choices as "unlikely taken" as possible, but at the same time would really like to have something that somebody will recognize. I really want 0 PSTNS, but I'm guessing that some RX-7 owner in the state already has that one.
I'm assuming that RX-8, RX8, and RX 8 are already taken.....and those are kind of boring anyway.
I wish they had some online search utility that you could use to see if they were already taken. Anybody have something like that in their state?
HalleysComet 05-22-2003, 07:47 AM Virginia has an online search for personalized plates. They tell you what is already taken and also show you what your plate would look like.
Lock & Load 05-22-2003, 04:43 PM A good plate for all the rotary deviants is DV8.
