I just watched the news and there was a story and video showing some guy that emulated Johnny Knoxville on the MTV show Jackas* by attempting to jump off of the roof of a 5 story hotel into the swimming pool. He clipped the edge of the pool and shattered both legs and cracked his pelvis. Visit to trauma center followed.

I also remember that another person emulated the show and covered himself in a suit made of steak and jumped on a giant barbecue pit. Burned the crap out of himself. You see, Johnny Knoxville showed everyone that he had a Nomex fire suit on under the steaks but I guess this yahoo thought that was not needed. Visit to trauma center followed.

Finally, a friend of mine told me a story of when he was doing his medical school rotations in a trauma center that the attending surgeon told him to avoid trauma surgery as a specialty. Why? The doctor said he spends the majorityof his life trying to save people that evolution is trying to naturally select out of the gene pool.

I say that all TV networks, worldwide, should show MTV's Jackas* for one month nonstop and simultaneously all trauma centers should be closed. In this one month period we could evolve the human species by maybe 100,000 years.

Reminds me of the kid who started himself on fire because of Beavis and Butthead.

I can't believe people can blame these TV shows for making them do totally moronic things. The worst part is they blow it for the rest of us (Beavis and Butthead couldn't say "fire" on MTV anymore, Jackass moved to 10pm, etc). They probably also get some sort of settlement too.

Hmmm....theres a good life plan. Do something incredibly stupid you've seen on TV, sue, make a million bucks. No problem getting a RX-8 then ;)

Yeah, that happened right near me.

Years ago when I was at school an extremely intelligent kid jumped off a 2 story roof attempting to hit the pool.. But he missed it and hit almost face first on concrete. Ended up in a body cast for 6 months drinking food from a straw. Of course he quit drinking then. Months earlier the same guy killed a rabbit they had in their dormroom with a butter knife. What a nut.

So it's not always the idiots... sometimes the smartest people do the stupidest things.

me and my friend do jackass in west palm beach near the rich white folks, but not like ligth our selves in fire or jump in pools from bulidings, we would like get in shoping karts and ram it againt those parking thing on the floor and we would like fly in the air and fall on the floor, we would go into stores and bother the mexican people working there, they barely know any english, we would play fight and the people stop us thinking we were really fighting, those were the good times :D

Na.. I was talking about a guy I knew back in '81 who did a similar thing. Back then you had to have creative stupidity since movies that instructed you how didn't exist. Anyway, the guy was top of his class and a computer engineering major at a tough college. He was really very intelligent. His body cast was kind of funny.. Like Buford Pusser in Walking Tall (great movie btw).


My brother is a so called genious as well and throughout the years has seriously damaged himself. He's blind in his right eye because he thought it would be fun to put starter pistol blanks in a vice and set them off with a blow torch. A piece flew through his eye after a few succesful attempts. At school he blew up a chem lab after hours and deafened himself in the right ear. He's also set himself on fire.

I had a friend who was quite honestly one of the smartest people I'd ever met. But this kid went to jail at least 2-3 times. Once for lighting the school dumpster on fire. Another for spray-painting on the side of the school.

They were copying a stunt pulled off a few years ago by the local (Tampa) rock station's morning DJ. One of "Bubba the Love Sponge" cronies did the same thing. He also hit the edge on his 2nd or 3rd jump, live on the radio.
