--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I am a single guy, a very cool guy who's down to earth and has no secret agendas. I put an ad on POF looking for a date, and got a response from a girl who said she was single too and looking for a date for the weekend. We talk on he phone and she was all cool and everything, I asked her if she wanted to grab coffee and a snack and then go to the movies this Saturday night. So we decide to meet at this place called Bari Cafe, and I figure we can have coffee and eat something there. She looked very nice but I noticed that she was very cold about the way she introduced herself once she met me. Notice that I am not a ugly guy, I might not be a Greek God, but I am a normal decent in shape guy. I figure she might've been shy, the first thing she said is that she was hungry and asked me if I didn't mind going to a restaurant.

I figured why not , so we get out of there and walk a few blocks and she picks this restaurant. I don't know the name but it looks like a very fancy restaurant and then she goes and orders some Merlot and then another and some appetizers that were a little pricey , I was confused about all this, because even though I have the money to pay for all this , I was not planning on taking a stranger to a fancy restaurant right out on our first date. She is still cold and talking only about herself and I noticed that she was not interested in me, but only on the drinks and the food. So we get to the main course and she gets a pricey entree, and I got something too, but I knew that I was going to be stuck with the bill. I knew it becasue she said she was out of work and having a problem finding a job, so I know she was not going to split the bill with me.

I was upset about the whole thing, and to be honest I am tired of being taken advantage of. I got up and told her that I was going to make a phone call, she knew I was going to come back because I left my Gap jacket, ( I bought it on sale for $23 dollars ) , so she never suspected I was going to dissapear because I left my jacket there.

So I go out and tell the guy at the entrance that I am going out to smoke an make a phone call. I got out and headed straight to the Car . I left that girl with my food and her food!!! LoL... Well, I got home and my voice mail was inundated with her phone calls, the girl had to pay the bill which came to $180 dollars , and she did not have money and she said that I did not have class and that I should send her the money , she left many nasty messages trying to get her money back from me. She ended up paying the bill with a credit card and all I lost was a cheap Gap Jacket that I got on sale.

I am not an ashole... I figure that if you don't like me at least let's have a nice time as friends but don't treat me like I am an idiot. I don't feel bad for what I did.

Although I lost a Jacket, I still didn't lose hope that there are nice girls out there for me.
the moral of the story: always bring a cheap jacket with you on dates. :D

That's pretty funny, but I say that's what you get for dating someone based on an advertisement, or any other such medium...

Has anyone ever really met someone on the internet, for example????? I don't think I would ever do that, or anything like it. Whatever happened to just going out in public and meeting a girl face to face?

edit: now I find out it's a joke, but I still stand by what I say above.

Too funny and to think it only cost you $23.00. However I would have paid for my food before I left or better yet put the money in the pocket of your gap jacket..haha

Good luck in the future, there really are some good ones out there!

You always say " I have to go to the rest room" then you leave and stick the guy with the bill.

LOL... that guy is my hero and it serves that girl right FO SHO! LMAO

Obvioulsly a gold digger!

Its about time the "Empire strikes back" :D

Seriously though... and girls wonder why so many guys treat them like shit. You know how many times I had some "useless" girl plump her ass down in my car looking for a free meal?... I'm generally a generous and nice guy, expecially if I think you are genuine...but If I ever felt like I was being used for cash/food/rides I'd make sure I get something out of it too..... clickety click, TOD charm turned on HIGH... melt women like hot butter.... tap that ass, take off like a thief in the night and ignore their phone calls.

You didn't realize their phone calls were them trying to make you freel good about giving you "pity sex"? :D

My older sister and her friends all admit that during their college years they always would find some poor schmuck every once in a while just to take them out to a nice restaurant. Everybody plays the fool, right?

Sure it can happen! It happened to me 12 years ago. Met a special woman online (already had a dozen "internet pals"), chatted online for 8 months (lots of phone calls in between), finally met, verified our feelings after we met "face to face", got married a year later. This year would have been our 10th Anniversary, but she passed away in July of 2002.

Nothing... the internet just opened up another venue to meet people. Personally I think internet "relationships" develop faster... there's no "outside interference" and you HAVE to "conversate". TRUST may be the #1 ingredient for relationships... but communication plays a big role too!

I'm really sorry to hear that about her...

I guess I'm just being old fashioned, I really like to do things face to face.

True... just as long as you can accept the fact that your sister may also end up the "casualty" someday if it hasnt happened already ;)

My wife and I met online eight years ago in a movie quote trivia chatroom on AOL. We starting sending IMs back and forth, and then spoke on the phone, and finally met like a month later. I wasn't looking for a girlfriend having just come out of a bad breakup, but we just clicked.

We celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary this past Sunday.

I'd be interested in that demographic, how many of us have dated or married someone through the internet...chat rooms, dating services, etc...all fair game. It must be much higher than I ever thought.

Ok so wait 12 years would be 1992, this was before Mosaic web browsers (Netscape, IE) were even developed so you had a dozen internet pals doing what telnetting each other on BBS's before ISP's were even really available? You dialed into her computer or what?

The jacket story was hilarious. :D

I was on Compuserve back in 1988. Back then it was just a BBS. Real expensive too. The first month's bill was like $600. My dad was pretty mad.

I had an AOL account at the end of 1992. Their "browser" was text-based until early 1995. After that you had an option of either text or graphics. In 1996 it went to all graphics.

I met Mrs TOD to be online 3 1/2 years ago (we are now engaged)..... we started out as friends.... which then developed into something more... Now here I am and I couldn't be happier.

Although the internet gets a bad rap alot of the times.... I totally think its a great place to meet people. Sure, you are gonna get some good ones and some bad ones, but doesn't that apply to everything else?

Mad Ronin... I remember Compuserve.... back when I got my first PC in '87 ( an 8088 XT mind you!... oooh ahhhh) they gave me a pamphlet for the compuserve service.... I didn't really read the pamphlet nor did I partake in it though.

That's how I found out about it. My dad upgraded from a Commodore VIC 20 to a 64/128 (he still has both) and the guy that sold him the computer sold him a 600 baud modem along with a Compuserve intro kit.

Actually it was before AOL was what it is today.... back then AOL was developed for MAC users, PCLINK was for Tandy users, and Promenade was for IBM owners. We met there first, then moved to a text based BBS called Delphi.... but yeah, even back then there were chat rooms. If I remember correctly... I didn't even have a Hard drive in my system back then, but I had my 2400 baud!

Yeah, now you're making me feel old...

Compuserve (where RUSH Limbaugh met his honey), Prodigy, AOL, PCLINK, Promenade, Emerald Palace, Dephi, they were all very addicting. Imagine, having conversations with real people over the computer.... what will they come up with next? Maybe they'll come up with an internal combustion engine under 1.5L that can produce over 200 HP.... oh wait.... nevermind. :D

MadRonin - my PCLINK (pre Steve Case Take-over) bill got so damn bad that I ended up becoming a "People Connection" host and then eventually an AOL "GUIDE" just so I could support my "online" habit. My highest bill before becoming an "employee" was around $1200. Almost as bad as some of the long distance phone bills I ran up.

After the first bill, my online days were pretty much numbered until I moved out on my own and joined AOL.

Since I wasn't allowed to get online, I decided to use my PC time wisely, so I wrote programs in basic that would create bitmap boobies. :D
