Greetings gang. I have read the threads here with great interest. It appears that you are all as passionate about the new RX-8 as I am. That is great!
I find it interesting that you are all worried about getting your cars in late summer or early fall. My car is due to arrive in 4-6 weeks. Mine has been "on order" for 2 years now. Mazda flew someone from Japan to a Mazda Club event 2 years ago at Virginia International Raceway to show off detailed plans for production of the RX-8. The details were staggering. It was clear then that they were going to produce the car. We loyal Mazda enthusiats were among the first to get undeniable proof of the plans. We all had to sign Non-Disclosure info, but it was great! Peter Farrell and others were on hand for the event too. At that time PFS made it clear that they would make aftermarket performance products for the new RX-8 once the car was produced. It was a great session.
Since then, I don't think a month has gone by that I haven't pestered the good folks at Mazda, but most of us at that first meeting were given "first crack" at new cars. I confirmed last week with my dealer that my car (red/black) is due to arrive in just 4-6 weeks. It should have sport package and all the options. I will let you know if the timetable proved to be accurate, but in reality, we have all been waiting over 2 years, what is another few months. :)
As far as what I paid, it was MSRP, as should it be for all of you. While some dealers are seeing fit to make huge profits due to demand, I think Mazda would take a pretty dim view of that strategy given their global price strategy. I may be wrong, but I think that Mazda is more interested in loyal customers like us than profit hungry dealers. Keep in mind the best deals and quickest builds are going to be in the small rural dealers that only get 1-2 cars but have not sold out their allocations yet. I was able to jump 9 month ahead in line on my 2002 BMW M3 once I discovered how the system worked.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to participating in this group. My current car is for sale to make room for the 2004 Mazda RX-8, 2005 Mustang the new upcoming Acura NSX 2nd Gen.
