View Full Version : 10" subwoofer in the passthrough
xrider 10-23-2004, 09:59 AM Here's a few pics of my JL Audio 10W6V2 sub enclosure in the passthrough that goes into the trunk in front of the strut tower bar. You can fit a 10" there, and it sounds almost twice as better as it did facing to the rear of the trunk. A seperate bass remote helps out also.
truemagellen 10-23-2004, 10:36 AM I am always excited when I see more pass through subs...when I'm done with my other projects I'll be doing one...nice pics!
that thing is HUGE I believe your the first with a 10" in the passthrough, kablam!
abbid 10-23-2004, 10:45 AM Damn, thats nice as hell, if i was to do anything it would be inspired by youres, and it would be a w7 :D
Like Whoa 10-23-2004, 11:24 AM where did you get it done and how much?
xrider 10-23-2004, 01:12 PM Here's a few more pics, I got it done @ Custom Sounds in Austin, TX, the north 183 loacation. Installer was Aaron, I may actually talk to them about putting a W7 in if the box has enough airspace.
abbid 10-23-2004, 02:40 PM How much did that install cost you, minus the audio equipt.
Mr. Ed's rx-8 10-23-2004, 04:16 PM thats the same design i'm looking to do...only i wnat to put 2 8" woofers in the pass through. my friend is still working on the design.
looks damn good! hows the sound?
jniamehr 10-24-2004, 10:00 AM I had been waiting do to this for a very long time, but many installers said while it was astehtically pleasing, it wasnt the best option audio wise... I am opting to go with the stealth boxes 4080 has created, how is the sound quality on your design?
xrider 10-24-2004, 03:17 PM As I said in my first post it has almost twice the bass response as when I had the sub facing the rear in the trunk. My installer is an authorized JL installer and he guaranteed it would sound better this way. I was sceptical because I always thought a sub was supposed to face the rear in the trunk, but I was wrong. He mentioned that it had some to do with the type of sub. Mainly the excursion of the sub.

yes yes yes...thank you for dispelling a myth about sub placement
(the trunk facing/trunk mounted idea only matters when you want a MONSTER sub that creates an earthquake when you drive down the street)
jniamehr 10-24-2004, 05:16 PM Thank you for the input, like I said its all a matter of what I have been told by others... Im sure it sounds excellent.
truemagellen 10-24-2004, 06:06 PM if he is happy with the sound we should be happy that he likes it, besides he gets the award for first with a 10incher (sub that is!) in the passthrough

rotary-convert 10-24-2004, 06:29 PM xrider,
looks sweeet.
How much did the install cost?
I am getting a JL 10" installed at a place up here in VA called Tweeter.
Hopefully if it's not too bad I can have them do what you have.
Thanks
D
irfan 10-24-2004, 08:43 PM would they be able to sell this enclosure online? im in ohio so I cant jsut swing by the place. Im almost finished with my 2-10 sub box for the trunk, facing forward. Id rather have the pass through though. If I have to sell the 2 10's to get 2 8s then i would do that if someone sold a premade passthru box for it. I dont want to tear apart my own pass thru cover since this is a lease.
xrider 10-29-2004, 08:27 PM The install ran me a grand. I truly doubt they could ever sell this product without the car for fitment. The box was 2 piece, they put the rear in first, then the front.
