I have not heard of this yet.
I was driving home last night, my friend who was following me called me and said my tail light/brake light was out. I figured he was f*ing with me, knowing Im over protective of my new car. But when I got home I checked it out and sure enough it was out. Upon further examination this morning I realized that it wasnt burnt out, the bulb fell out of the socket and was lying at the bottome of the ficture. Problem is the only way I could get into the ficture (with out breaking it) was through the little hole in the back where the socket screws into. There was no way I could even get a finger into the fixthre. The only solution - a wire coat hanger with duct tape on the end. Still wasnt an easy task but I finally was able to stick the bulb and pull it out. The fillament was still fine and the light works again.

ahh, I had one fall out too, I just removed the two bolts, pulled the wires and turned it upside down and shook it like a piggy bank and out it popped.

Take it to your dealer and have it fixed/replaced under warranty!! That should not have happened.

Sweet thread resurection!!
I've got this problem still, anyone else!
It's happened to my car 2 times in 38K miles. I think its a design flaw of the bulb socket. I just teke out the hole thing and shake it . It takes about 5 minutes.

yeah they changed the wiring harness on both sides ... i got a ticked for it twice and ive had legal problems with mazda usa before so the dealer replaced em no questions asked ... i think a few cars had that trouble ... and it wasnt just rx8s
good to know. sad thing is my car is out of warranty and there is not a TSB out there for it.

I always end up taking the whole assembly out too and shaking it. Then when I put it back in I bent the contacts onthe bulb outward and the contacts inside the socket inward.. it holds it in for almost a year for me until it falls back out.

I had to use a coat hanger and duct tape when i forgot to put a piece of tape on my rx8strakes LED parking light. That bulb was a pain to remove. Finally got it though

wow you guys are inventive. ive seen a few 8s come into the dealer with this too. i usually use a magnet....the contacts in the bulb are metal after all. You do need a smallish magnet with a bit of grab to it though. works every time and it only takes like 2 mins too.
