View Full Version : How much are you willing to pay?
RX-Nut 04-29-2003, 05:48 PM Humor me for a bit.. say you could not find the 8 at MSRP, no matter where you went.. And probably wouldnt be able to find it at a nice price until LATE 2004. What do you do?
Do you pay for the 8 at a premium? If so, how high would you go?
If not, do you just wait it out for a year or so and watch all the lucky owners drive past you in the car of your dreams?
Hmmmm...
danielk015 04-29-2003, 05:52 PM i would wait... i dont want to look like a donkey's a$$ and drive a car that i paid 5K more and in 6 months, others are driving for MSRP..
lefuton 04-29-2003, 05:53 PM i'd wait, or actually would probably buy something else
danielk015 04-29-2003, 05:57 PM i agree... possibly a g35.. but then again, i want the rx-8, so i would wait it out..
khoney 04-29-2003, 06:02 PM MSRP...max. It's a matter of principle. And principal...HEE HEE!
Elara 04-29-2003, 07:10 PM Eh, considering your situation, I'd probably offer them as much as $1,000 over MSRP, but nothing more. But that's just me.
StealthTL 04-29-2003, 07:14 PM I know it sounds like throwing money at the problem, but get serious with them - round up all the credit you have, and go in there with five thousand bucks, cash in your mitt. Ask them how serious they are?.... Tell them you want an '8' deal, at list, TODAY.
Carry a list of which other dealers you are going to next. Tell them this is their shot at it, then you are headed over to Dealer'B'.
At the very least it will get their attention, at best one of them will crack at the sight of cash, and you can lock in your deal!
I can certainly appreciate your position on the Island, with a sellers market, but if this fails, you will be out only two days Visa interest on $5k, and you will know you couldn't possibly get the deal you wanted.....
....You can also go with a clear concience and buy a 350Z or G35C.
I certainly would, as soon as I e-mailed Mazda Operations and told them what to do with their car and their dealerships!
......Seriously, no car is worth the hassles you have been thru....
Best of luck...Take no prisoners!.....S
RX-Nut 04-29-2003, 07:15 PM Eh! You sure you're not from Hawaii? Hehehe..
I too, think $1000 over, is way more than reasonable.. considering dealer holdback and the other goodies they get, any dealer is still making money off that!
seriously? i thought i was robbed for paying $500 over MSRP...i also thought everyone got away with MSRP...i would never pay $1000 over MSRP, i'd just go to another dealership, especially after reading how other ppl got MSRP...i wasn't even gonna pay the $500 over until he told me i was definitely gonna get in on the first batch
devMan 04-30-2003, 01:55 AM i went to 2 dealers 20 miles apart in the same city and one was more than happy to sell at msrp w/$60 doc fee. The other wanted $1000 over msrp and had a $250 doc fee.
The second dealer's excuse was that they had to pay for training and equipment for the 8 and they were not motivated by greed and trying to make a quick buck!;)
although they're in business to make money, who are you going to trust more?
RX-Nut 04-30-2003, 02:08 AM Yea, you are right about how insane anything over MSRP can be. I agree with that too.. however, I guess you folks are new to my plight.. we have only 3 dealers here and they all want over MSRP.. go figure.
I'm gonna have to stick to my guns and see who's really willing to sell me a car. Although each dealer seem to feed off other.. grubbers..
