View Full Version : Winetr Tires and Rims = Toronto
Shamblerock 10-16-2004, 09:21 AM Purchase winter rims and tires installed and balanced this morning from Mississauga Tire Centre on 2403 Stanfield Rd, Mississauga, Ontario. Here are the details (all prices in Canadian dollars) :
Rims - RTX F120 = $140 X 4 = $ 560
Tires - Michelin Pilot Alpine PA2 225/50/17 V rated = $255 X 4 = $1,020
Misc . Accessories = $ 10
-------------
$1,590
PST & GST 239
------------
Grand Total $1,829
If you are interested, make sure you contact Lou 905-848-3500 and speak to no one else because he's the only guy that knows of the RX-8 club and I told him others will call. You should get the exact same price or better. Tell him Ray sent you. Let me know how it goes.
Mississauga Tire does all the OPP, government vehicles etc. They install with serious care and caution and I was really pleased. V ery professional outfit!
Here is what the rims look like:
CrackerJax 10-16-2004, 10:33 AM thanks shamblerock. i was just hoping someone else would do the dirty work, and I'd just come in from behind and reap all the glory and benefits of any deals to be had :)
This price is pretty reasonable even compared to tires/rims purchased outside of the province to save PST. I'm still contemplaiting on driving the 8 all year round, or putting her away for the winter and getting a beater instead. It's sort of like enjoying lobster and steak all summer, then when winter comes, you're eating kraft dinner.
hopefully we got a couple of months left..... fingers X

Hankooks P235/50R17 + Mag rims. Installed and balanced $1500.. c/w taxes $1725.00
With Toyo GARIT HT's + Mag rims $1800 c/W taxes $2070.00
Whitby Mazda
Shamblerock 10-21-2004, 05:38 PM I think Garit and the hankooks are only H rated, just in case this was an important piece of information in your decision. Furthermore, 235 will throw out the height from the stock tires.
RotorWheeee 10-21-2004, 07:55 PM I just got a price from Superior tire is Scarborough( 416-291-7175) $1966.27 including tax and instalation, no additional hardware required (just found out some rims require different harware from the stock)
RTX 211 rims ( looks very simalar to what Shamberock posted) and Toyo Garit HT tires . An additional reduction of $50 if purchased by the 23rd ( might be able be extended this a bit)
If interesrted ask for Steve tell him Ken sent you from the RX8club.

From what i found the Michelin Pilot Alpine PA2 is also H rated . Mind you 210 Kph on a snow tire is more then I need:D
Shamblerock 10-21-2004, 08:42 PM Rotorweee, the michelins come in 2 versions, H rated which are aparently not available in stock at the Michelin warehouse and the V rated which are in stock. Price club and Canadian tire both have the H rated on their screens but advised that they would take about a week to get them in. My guy said that the H rated tire will likely not make it to Canada this winter because thats what he was told by Michelin. I kind of trust my guy because he does zillions of cars and does all the police cars and government vehicle for Peel. Also the V rated are specially reinforced on the sides whereas the H rated are not.
I guess I'll have to buy you a drink the next time we meet because of the extra $130 dollars I saved on my set ;)
In any event, your right about not needing more than H rated in the winter but I am more comfortable with the V's. TRust me, I had pilot alpines before and they are dynamite :D
RotorWheeee 10-21-2004, 09:32 PM No problem , I'm leaning toward the Toyo only because on past experiences with Michelin and Toyo , mind you it was for nothing like the RX. Like your self there something to be said for convience of a local purchase (I'll have to get the wife to hump the off season tire around, 4 "spare tires" won't fit in the 8 to get them home)
All that said I'll still let you buy me a drink with your savings:D

apaul 10-22-2004, 07:38 AM THis Forum is so great! Thanks Shamblerock and Rotorwheee. I think, Rob, at Whitby Mazda is favouring the Toyo's as he faxed a page of tech data along with the quote. Maybe I can bargain a little bit on the price knowing your Superior deal, Ken.
Need to act soon.
[I do have an extra 'in' or bonus in that they will store my OEM's for the winter n/c, as they did for my Miata for five years].
Thanks again, guys.. :)
Shamblerock 10-22-2004, 08:30 AM Roto, I brought all 4 winter tires and rims home in my RX 8; 1 in the trunk, 2 behind the passenger seat in the back and one behind driver's seat in the back. Seriously, I could have put all 4 in the back seat if I need to. I basically put a blanket over the centre console in the back and laid them on an angle stacked 2 high.

Side note - the Hankook 235s will be wider than the OEM 225/45-18s. For winter tires, you really want narrower, but I'd personally avoid going wider if I had alternatives. A 225/50-17 is a good size choice, as are 215/55-17s. There's enough different tires available in those two sizes that you shouldn't have to compromise by moving 'down' to a 235/50-17.

Gordon
apaul 10-22-2004, 10:18 AM Thanks, Gord. Printed your good advice^^^ & will speak with the Parts Mgr. today.
[Whew! Thing are getting a little rough in the 'Feud thread'].
ChrisP 10-24-2004, 01:01 PM RTX F120 and Toyo Garit HT 225/50R17 94H fitted yesterday by Superior Tire (Rotorwheeee, I suspect it was you who had a chance to look at the F120s).
The invoice totals $2187.07 - due to the F120 price which is a more that Shamblerock's Mississauga Tire Centre quote (by quite a lot!).
I have been a customer of Superior Tire's for nearly the last 20 years, so content to pay a premium for their service. Steve researched the rim possibilities himself and he and Danny (the tech) have treated my 8 like they would their own. We started by test fitting a couple of different types of rim, then tried the F120 when it came in - so the 8 has been up on the hoist 3 times for this.
With apologies for the pic quality (we still have a steam driven camera and "someone" wanted to finish off the roll yesterday) and with hopes that my first posted pic works, this is what the rims look like fitted. The Toyos ride much more softly than the OEMs - which is nice for my aching joints!
RotorWheeee 10-24-2004, 01:48 PM Yup That would be me . I had a look at the RTX 120's that Steve had layed out for your car ( nice). I was quoted on the RTX 220's due to a question around the 120's availability.
So are the tires nice... quiet and grippy?

ChrisP 10-24-2004, 03:12 PM I haven't actually driven with them much yet. I spent most of yesterday cleaning/polishing the OEM rims before putting them away, cleaning the 8 (despite the picture, it was "not clean") and polishing the new rims. The other half thinks I'm nuts - but she did come to Superior tire with the Golf to bring back the OEMs - sweetheart!
On balance I would say that the Toyos are a little bit more noisy than the OEMs, give plenty of grip and ride more comfortably. They certainly smooth out the bumps on the roads around here. There's a section of Morningside between Ellesmere and the 401 that used to make my Blizzaks "sing". It'll be interesting trying the Toyos on that.
ChrisP 10-24-2004, 03:16 PM By the way, the Toyos are uni-directional. I don't think I've ever had tires that say Left and Right on them before!
And you know I just had to check all round when I spotted the first one - Danny got it right :)
Shamblerock 10-24-2004, 07:14 PM Chris P: Congrats on the winter set up. Hope you enjoy and have safe travels with them. But I got to say, the Toyo are $25 cheaper per tire (see tiretrend.com) less expensive than the Michelin Pilot Alpine pa2 V rated and your package price came to over $350 more! Net, net that $450 difference. I know you have a long standing relationship with Superior, but you could have shown him my quote and I am sure he would have matched the price. Afterall, I have the same exact rims (by the way they look stunning on your car). I just hope he's that good to you to pay such a premium! I just want as many people as possible to benefit from my efforts in finding the best price I could for the group and if someone found a better price, great! But again, it would be a 50KM haul to come from all the way in the east end to get the package I got at the price I got them. So I guess I understand.
By the way, you know that you could have carried all 4 OEM rims and tires back with you (3 in the back seat and 1 in the trunk). I did without any issues and actually had room for one more tire on the back seat!
Again, good luck with your package.
ChrisP 10-25-2004, 06:18 AM Well fellow enthusiasts, by putting the winters on this weekend at least two of us have obviously appeased the weather gods. It was positively balmy out there this morning.
After the drive to work I don't think the Toyos are noisier - they just seem to respond differently on the different types of asphalt. They are much more comfortable over rough surfaces and speed bumps. They are, however, squishier (sorry about the technical term) when cornering. I would assume that's from the higher profile and softer compound/less rigid sidewall.
...and let's just say that my price is probably going to be the "high" price :(
Danielson 10-25-2004, 06:52 AM [B]Hello Everyone's, I'm a new member of RX8Club.com and I live in Trenton On. I'm assuming that all of you Guy's are driving your RX8 in the winter ? How come I never see one anywhere on the road last winter ?? I've been driving all over Ontario (as far as Windsor) and Quebec, and never have the opporturnuty (sorry French?!) to see one ??
I will back home in less than 3 weeks (overseas right now) and hope having a chance to meet someone else driving a RX8 on winter tires this winter ??
ChrisP 10-25-2004, 07:20 AM I think there'll be rather more this year than last. :)
ChrisP 10-27-2004, 11:25 AM I spoke to Steve at Superior Tire on Monday evening about the difference in rim price between themselves and Mississauga Tire Centre. As Steve said, "we don't claim to be the cheapest - just good". However, he also said that he would check back with his RTX rep.
I got a call from Steve today. I'm getting $33 plus tax per rim back. :) The price is still higher than Mississauga Tire, but you can't fault their service.
By the way, you folks have been gentle with me in my embarassment :o :o :o and I thank you!
Shamblerock 10-27-2004, 12:18 PM Good Job Chris. Hey, $150 back aint too shabby and is certainly better than a poke in the eye! Have a nice dinner with it! Glad to see the Mississauga Tire info worked for you in some way.
daddyg 11-08-2004, 07:30 AM hey there, ended up putting on the Pilot Alpin 225/50/17. Now i"m seeing that because they are not the exact match of the stock tires, it might not work the best?
Is this true?
Shamblerock 11-08-2004, 08:04 AM Daddy G, the dimensions of the tire are almosat the exact same width and hight as the stock wheel after all is said and done. There is a difference of about 2 mm in hight, that's it. This is as close as you are going to get if you go with 17". Going with 18" rims is going to cost you substantially more for rims and tires and your selection drops off significantly. Just put the Pilots on yesterday and they look great and feel even better. Real quiet and very nice response. Took it up to 160KM/h (100MPH) and they were smooth as silk. If you want to see what they look like on, let me know and I'll post a few pics.
daddyg 11-08-2004, 08:13 AM shamblerock. thanks.
i actually got the same ones you did, from Mississauga Tire. Lou sounded like a good guy. So far, no complaints, they seem great.
Just wasnt' sure if the different dimensions would cause any problems with the car, or TPMS or that.
thanks for the advice.
Shamblerock 11-08-2004, 09:54 AM DaddyG, bad news: We don't have TPMS on the Canadian models so you don't need to worry. ou are also better with the 17" rather than the 18" in the winter because there is less chance of damaging a rim on a pot hole etc which you cannot see because its covered with snow.
Did you get the same rims too? I hope Lou at Mississauga Tire gave you the same pricing or better than I got. If not, let me know and I'll blast him!
daddyg 11-08-2004, 09:57 AM Same price. Picked up the tires on Sat. and installed them myself with a friend, rather than wait 3 or 4 hours to get them put on.
I didn't even realize that we didn't have the TPMS.
ANything else we don't have in Canadian versions?
Thanks!
Shamblerock 11-08-2004, 10:05 AM Aparently that it. They gave us headlight washers to compensate.
Kart Racer 11-08-2004, 11:11 AM about the install, did you guys have to buy "tuner lugnuts" or you just used factory ones......also, shamblerock, does Lou carry assortments of hub centric rings, as the wheels i have, do not have the proper ring insert for the RX-8.....thanks! im probably ordering tires tommorow....as it looks like winter is about to start!
Shamblerock 11-08-2004, 12:11 PM Kart Racer, I got a set of chrome nuts with the new rims and are using those instead of the ones from Mazda. Didn't have to buy anthing further and they fit perfectly. Mississauga Tire a few weeks ago installed one in the fron and one in the back to ensure the fit was bang on. And I put them on myself this weekend and they went on perfectly without any additional rings. Whether or not Lou has the pieces you are looking for, I'm not sure. Give him a call and I'm pretty sure he will be agle to get whatever you need. His number is in a post below.
Let me know how it went and what you ended up getting. I'm curious as your opinion has some weight!
ChrisP 11-08-2004, 04:42 PM I'm using the standard nuts with my F120's (including the locking nuts). The thing that Danny pointed out was that a "thinner" socket would be needed and the wheel brace that comes with the car won't fit (you might be able to confirm that Shamblerock?). Since there's no spare wheel as such, it's a problem that Superior Tire and Airport Mazda can worry about - not me :)
Shamblerock 11-08-2004, 09:49 PM Chris, the socket s the same size for both the stock rims and the new RTX rims. The chrome bolts provided with the RTX rims are just longer. I'm not sure what you mean when you say "wheel brace that comes with the car won't fit" Are you talking about the stock wrench that comes with the car? I use a torque rench with the same socket. Please clarify. Thanks Chris.
ChrisP 11-09-2004, 08:54 PM Yes, the socket is the same size, but apparently, the outside diameter of the stock wrench (sorry about my terminology) is a bit too big to fit into the channels(?) that the nuts sit in. I didn't bother checking it at the time - but now I suppose I'll have to if only to satisfy my curiosity.
ChrisP 11-10-2004, 06:45 AM Checked this morning. The stock wrench, which does fit the nuts, can't be placed over a nut. Danny was right, it needs a socket and possibly one with "thinner" walls. You obviously have the right tools, Shamblerock. I, on the other hand, will be leaving it to Danny :)
Bellef 11-12-2004, 04:11 PM I had toyo garrit with RT rims installed last week at Performance Mazda in Ottawa for $1230 plus taxes. I was supposed to get Hancooks but they ran out so they let me have the Garrits instead. The normal proce for the package was $1530, still much lower than 1800 you guys are getting in TO.
:D
Shamblerock 11-12-2004, 04:46 PM Bellef, interesting. What size are the tires and what speed rrating are they. Also, what are RT rims and what are their dimensions? Any pics? Can you break down the pricing? So we all know.
Got my from Best Buy tires in Richmond Hill...
Dunlop G2. 215/55/17. w/ rims for less than $1300.. :D
Kart Racer 11-16-2004, 10:15 AM really??? less then 1300 with tax?? where is this place?
Shamblerock 11-16-2004, 12:09 PM ATF: Are these the Graspic DS-2 Tires? If so, did you know they are q rated i.e. max 99 miles/hr or 160KM/hour? Just be careful and watch you speed. The 8 can get up there pretty quickly when you are not paying attention.
Did you notice a big difference in handling?
Spiro 11-16-2004, 01:54 PM Just got quotes from Gyro Mazda in Toronto. I have had winter rims and tires from here for my mx6, millenium and now for my 8. Pirelli tires 215 55 x17 and SPYN wheels. In stock at 1585.60
breakdown
pirellis 236.40 x 4
SPYN 160 x 4
I have always loved the Pirelli winter tires as they make no sound, drive like summer tires but work well in the snow
Kart Racer 11-16-2004, 03:01 PM hey spiro, i was quoted that from gyro as well, i think im going to go for the tires alone....since i have 17's already. what do the spyn wheels look like???
Spiro 11-16-2004, 03:29 PM The SPYN are a 5 spoke wheel, basic aluminum or gun metal grey. Pretty nice for a winter tire. I like the 17" wheels on Apauls yellow 8 better though. Gyro has the wheels in their service bay wait area if you drop by.
Mic Jagger 11-16-2004, 06:38 PM Love My Toyo's .. $200 each 215/55/17
RTX 7 spoke Wheels .. $150 each.. Look real sharp .. ask Shamblerock..
Said to Shamblerock ... let's have an uphill race this winter.. His French Michelins and my Japanese Walnut Shell inbedded Toyo's..
sriwata 11-16-2004, 06:56 PM Picked up my snows today from Paul at RNJ Tires in Pickering; 225/50/17 V rated W300 Hankooks with steel rims $1070 installed and balanced. Someone else with a titanium grey RX-8 also picked up his the other day.
Stacy
Mic Jagger 11-16-2004, 07:02 PM Sriwata .. Steel Rims ?? On a beautiful car like ours...
Meet me at a meet and I bet the ladies jump into my car ..
They don't call it a chick magnet for nothing..
sriwata 11-16-2004, 07:04 PM Rather spend my money on springs, shocks and bars for next summer.
Steveo67 11-17-2004, 12:38 PM Got my from Best Buy tires in Richmond Hill...
Dunlop G2. 215/55/17. w/ rims for less than $1300.. :D
Good job on the price. I got the exact same rims with Blizzak WS-50 225/50/17s for $1450 last November.
Do you find that the extra profile on the winter tire makes for a smoother ride than the stock RE040s ?
Red338 11-17-2004, 12:53 PM I'm a new kid on the block. - post #1.
Just had winter wheels & tires installed 2 weeks ago on my 04 RX8 GT. Done at Kipling Tires in Toronto. I was super budget conscious. Had lot of troubles. Originally installed with FRD68 17x7.5 5x114.3 wheels with 225/50R17 Hankook W300. They gave me 20mm offset wheels (bad) and so they stick out too much and the rear tires touch the fender going over humps. Had to wait one week to get new wheels with 40mm offset. Didn't drive the 8 for a whole week. New wheels came in with 40mm offset. Installed. Couldn't drive it out the shop. Front wheels calipers stuck to the inside of the wheels. Dumb tech didn't bother to test for clearance before giving me back the key. They rushed out and got a set of FAST Impact 17x7 with unknown offset (something like 37mm). Never heard of these wheels (anyone know these wheels?). They fit. Been driving for a week. The new set feels almost like the original wheels & tires. Subjectively, the W300 feels about 80% of the original RE040 on dry. Most noticable difference is braking. I took a crazy turn onramp to the 427 and I was sure I was going to tail off, but the W300 glued on the pavement and I came out of the onramp at almost 100km/h. I am sure the DSC help a great deal too. Consider I spent about $1,400 (15% taxes and all included) for V-rated winter performance tires and OK wheels, I am safe to say this is a good deal, just bad experience with the shop.
I did quite some research on the Net before deciding on the Hankook W300. On paper, the W300 beats all other performance winter tires hands down just based on cost, for the RX8:
- Hankook W300 (V) is $140.
- Bridgestone Blizzak LM22 & LM25 (V) are both about $250 each.
- Dunlop Sport M3 (H) is $220.
- Kumko KW17 (V) is $190.
- Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 (V) is $260.
- Pirelli Winter 210 (H) & 240 (V) are $240.
- Toyo Garit HT (H) is $230.
- Yokohama AVS V901 (H) is $230.
Also are Continental, Nokian, General, Goodyear, and even Canadian Tire.
I chose W300 also because there have been good reviews from different Boards. So I took the plunge and tried it out. So far so good. Will see how well these Hankook perform with snow and ice. Waiting for snow in TO.
Needless to say, when my friend inquiried about Hankook W300 last week at Kipling Tire, they said they didn't carry them.
Good job on the price. I got the exact same rims with Blizzak WS-50 225/50/17s for $1450 last November.
Do you find that the extra profile on the winter tire makes for a smoother ride than the stock RE040s ?
Yup, the ride is much smoother. Feel like driving a camry...I like the rims, it sort of give the 8 an angry look too. :D
Is your 8 a red one? Cuz I just saw one Red 8 with same kind of rims pass by in Woodbine turing to 16 Ave... I was coming out from the gas bar..
How do you like your Blizzak?
really??? less then 1300 with tax?? where is this place?
Best Buy Tires. # 905 508 3674.
I've mentioned to them about the RX8 forum, they will hook u up with good deals.
Besides those rims will keep ur 8 a chick magnet.. So MJ wouldn't be upset :p
Kart Racer 11-17-2004, 06:31 PM thanks, maybe i'll check it out....im getting the winters on friday, i was going to do it at gyro, but i want to make certain my rims can fit.
Mic Jagger 11-17-2004, 07:11 PM  Red .. you didn't read my stuff ... Got my Toyo's for $200 not $230 as you listed..
Believe the boys in Western Canada that said driving through the Rockies last winter was a pleasure with Toyo's .. Got to have a meet one day to do some real test drives.. I have a Japanese car..so I want Japanese tires..no French ones..Yankie ones and especially Korean ones.. thanks..Mic.. ;)
Shamblerock 11-17-2004, 08:15 PM Mic, have you ever heard of "diversification"? Don't put all your eggs in one basket! Everything doesn't have to come from Japan now that you have a Japanese car. What are you going to do now, marry a japanese woman? :D Just kidding!
The way I see it, Saki may be a nice Japanese wine but the French are the only ones that have the real deal;Champagne. Thats why when it comes to tires and safety I went straight for the Dom Perignon:)
Mic, Its good to see you back on this site!
Steveo67 11-18-2004, 07:08 AM Yup, the ride is much smoother.
I've got a Titanium GT....drive in to TO from Newmarket every day so decent snow tires were a must! I don't mind the Blizzaks...I ordered the LM-22s (for the higher speed rating) but they didn't have any stock last November when I got my car, so I settled for WS-50s. Lots of wheel spin on damp pavement with the Blizzaks, and you can smell the rubber after a drive from Newmarket to TO on dry pavement!!!
I've got three years left on my lease, I just hope the tires will make it :D
Steve
Mic Jagger 11-18-2004, 08:24 PM  Hey Shamblerock..I've had a French Lady..Same goes for an American Lady..Think the only kind that would fit in the back seat with me in my 8 is a Japanese Lady..
Tell you about it the next time we meet..Oh yea bring the Dom... ;)
Shamblerock 11-19-2004, 07:50 AM Stevo, after reading your post, I decided to take a wif of my tires after driving 5 miles and I also smelt burning rubber. NOT HAPPY!
I guess when the weather gets colder, they won't melt away as easily.
Lesson Learned: Don't put the winter tires on until the white stuff is actually falling down!
apaul 11-19-2004, 08:30 AM Same here, Shamblerock.. ..the 'aroma' is always noticeable after I garage my 8..the parts man at Whitby says the Hankooks' compound makes them less susceptible to tread wear on dry than my Miata's Blizzaks .. [and they lasted for 5 seasons, Steve067].
So here we all are, RX-8 winter warriors....bring it on....Semper Paratus :)
dave_euser 11-21-2004, 05:54 PM Just ordered a set of tires + wheels from www.tiretrends.com - picked up the Hankook W300s (V rated) with a set of FRD-128 wheels.....noone local could beat the price....shipped from BC within 3-5 business days - so it should be here by the weekend (hopefully - supposed to snow on Friday)
DEEP-INSIDE 11-25-2004, 04:28 PM Hi Everyone ... I'm checking out all your prices and I feel obliged to let you know that just today, I got a quote (and placed my order) for Toyo Garit's at $1,500 plus taxes, so that's like $1,725 total. This is from AVANTE MAZDA in Richmond Hill. I haven't found anyone else who's gotten a better deal. Anyway ... I hope this helps some of you out.
Happy winter zoom zooming!
spaceman 11-25-2004, 07:18 PM Garit,

hobbes 11-26-2004, 02:12 PM Okay, I need to get my winter rims and tires and this is what I'm thinking of getting. I read the threads with my jet lag and decided to post what I'm thinking of doing. If you find anything wrong with what I'm planning to do this weekend, please tell me.
Toyo Garit HT 215/55-17 $198 + (steel at 690kg/ rim) Rims + install/wheel balance + Tax = $1600.80
I really appreciate it.

LIST OF MANUFACTURING FACILITIES (http://www.toyota-wiki.com/wiki/List_of_Toyota_manufacturing_facilities)
Shamblerock 11-26-2004, 02:41 PM Hobbes, for that price you can get aluminum rims I beleive. Also the tires you are getting I beleive are H rated, not that you will go over 210KM/hr! FYI, if you don't mind going to Mississauga to pick up tires, I started this thread and the very first post gives you all the details of what I got, prices, who to contact and picture.
Aparently, Lou from Mississauga tire already did aboutt a dozen RX8 so far since I started this thread. I know he ran out of my rims but was getting new/slightly different ones. I seen the 215/55 and for some reason they look taller than the 225/50 I have. Doubt it is not off enough to throw off the speedo and DSC.
hobbes 11-26-2004, 03:31 PM Thanks for the Info Shamblerock. I might be able to get a better deal greenlane (for the life of me I can't remember their name, but it should be that), I'm getting my wife's car and father-in-law's done there possibly. I rather get alu for the rims, but cheaper the better, winter beaters is all I need. :) .

Clavinova (http://www.yamaha-tech.com/wiki/Clavinova)
Shamblerock 11-26-2004, 07:44 PM Here's a link to help you determine what the best tire and rim sizes to suit your needs should you need to change your tires/rims at some point in the future. Especially helpful for snow tires.
You chose what size your current set up is and what you want to go to and it will tell you the new exact dimensions and also show you a diagram of how much smaller or larger the new set up will be.
Hope it helps you.

sriwata 11-27-2004, 07:46 AM Hey Mic; you shamed me into buying some alloys. Got a set of powder coated rims; the clear coat/polished rims tend to look bad when the salt water eventually works under the clear coat from stone chips in 1-2 years (from previous experience). Picked them up from Pickering Tire n'Mag for $690 out the door included is re-remount the Hankooks and balancing (see attachment for pic). He also had cheaper wheels ~$125 each, plus tax. I really love my 225/50-17 V rated Hankooks. The steering response and ride with the stiffer sidewalls of the V rated tire is just about the same as the summer 18 inchers. Haven't pushed them to the limit yet, they seem to stick well in cold wet weather.
Sriwata.
I got the same wheels as your for $500 tax incl. mounted and balanced...
daddyg 11-29-2004, 09:30 AM For those of you with the Pilot Alpin P2's, How are you finding traction on wet pavement? Since it's been quite rainy in Ontario lately, wondering how they hold up for grip? Any tire slip?
Just wondering before I stop driving like a granny with them.
Shamblerock 11-29-2004, 09:59 AM DaddyG, I have the PA2's and its absolutely excellent on wet roads. Furthermore, I don't know about you, but I have hardly and difference in the handling either between the stock re40's and the PA2's. Maybe because of the V rating and extra reinforcement that comes with these Pilots.
daddyg 11-29-2004, 10:43 AM Shamblerock - yeah, I can't really notice much difference between the two tires in performance so far. I even hit a patch of snow up north with them, and they handled well. I think they will be well worth the investment in a few weeks when the snow/ice comes.
Hybrid-RX8 11-29-2004, 11:02 AM Using 18 winter tires is still an option too guys. At least that's what I'm doing.
hobbes 12-02-2004, 01:38 PM I finally got my winter rims and tires, yay. Cost $1300 Taxes included. Before you go  I got 17" steel rims with Toyo Graits 215/55. Yeah I know, steel  But it's for winter, and besides I drive a T grey so it looks alright. Thanks for all the info everyone provided, it helped a lot with my decision.
