I’m driving my wife’s VW. I want to honk or wave, but can’t as I feel, momentarily, unworthy.

Ahh, but the -8 driver would appreciate it, even though he won't know he's actually being waved at by a fellow cult member.

At least you see them! I almost never do!

I feel the same way in my wife's SUV- I feel like I should make contact, but I don't think they'd understand :)

I feel the same way driving MY wife's VW..., that and a sense of envy. Which is odd because I already own one, but just not driving it. Weird.

I've had a couple of high-beam blinks from non-8's that were on-coming. At first I thought they were warning me of smokeys ahead. In at least one case I'm pretty sure now it was analogous to a wave. Nice thought, but I didn't get it until later. A honk or wave would have given me a better idea of what they were doing. :) It WAS cool after I figured it out.

Two (ugly) girls passed me the other day in a rusty old car and yelled "you rock!" I smiled and waved.

It felt really good and I couldn't stop smiling all the way home. Then I started thinking...hey what if they weren't serious?!

:p

If you're driving a different car, wave and yell "DO A SEARCH!" - they'll know.

It would be cool if there were some sign 8 drivers could flash when they pass each other on the road, the way Harley riders signal each other. But 8 requires too many fingers. I guess a light honk and they'll know what you mean.

Oh wait, with that Ford horn, you'll scare the crap out of them! ;)

Way back when I had my 1st Generation RX-7's (I had two - an 81 and an 85), the universal sign of hello to another RX-7 was the "headlight flip" ... those cars had hidden headlights and had a dash switch to pop them up for cleaning without turning them on. So you'd just rock that rocker switch back and forth and the headlights would "wave" for you ... :)

Yes, would be fun if there were something like that on the -8 ...

We did the same with the Miata's... and also exchanged "waves" with the RX7's. I miss the old 'barndoors'. There was a "wink" mod that guys wired into their hazard button on the dash to just wink one headlight for girls... it was pretty cool.

Maybe we could adjust our dual-gimbal RV mirrors at each other? :p

Why not just open up your door and throw out the suicide door. That is something special that you guys could share. :D

Was this at night? If so, then they are probably trying to tell you to turn your high beams off. I've had this happen to be a lot at night on country roads. The thing is, I didn't even have my high beams on. The Xenon lights are so bright, people think that I've my high beams on, so they flash theirs and blind me. I've gotten to the point now where, I'm just waiting for someone to do that again, so I can REALLY turn on my high beams and blind them back. Then maybe they will go "oh... I guess he didn't have them on...." and realize their mistake. Anyone else had this problem?

We need some kind of hand-sign to signify that we're an 8 driver.

Perhaps this?

So, flashing the ASL sign for 8 sound like a plan?

Before you get to flash the sign, y'all have to get rolled-in.

….Driving the VW for a week just makes me long for the garaged RX, it’s like going back to an old hot girl friend. As this say, abstinence makes the heart grow fonder.
