View Full Version : The "Keenager" Market
gord boyd 04-29-2003, 05:01 AM Some of us are not willing to forego comfort, convenience and practicality. We are attuned to 'being at one' with an insightful automobile that achieves tenacious and stable tire grip under a variety of maneuvres. We like the linearity of 106 inch wheelbase
and the quietness (see Interior Noise Level thread). Equally, we like the active safety of predictable, smooth vehicle behavior
during fast cornering on low friction road surfaces or the predictability of sharp responsive handling. Yes, we might
disable the DSC for advanced driving--in fact we carry fewer
responsibilities than most of you on this board and like the
doors, are and can afford to be more "freestyle".
When this market catches on--the empty nesters fed up with the
SUV's/mini-vans, watch out because DEMAND will surge. The back seats will be storage for cross-country road trips for two
that hither to was not possible with sports car dynamics. In combination with the trunk you are looking at serious capacity
for luggage & cooler &__ &_.
Who else see this? That is why the 106 page media commentary
states clearly (P. 21) "a class entirely its own"
Bingo Bango, the exact reason I want this thing.
I don't want a sedan although I will settle for a Mazda6 is need be (money / availability).
I want a sports car, I would LOVE to have a decked out miata, but when I look at that trunk it is useless if I want to go someplace with say ummm and change of clothes? So the RX-8 will be perfect, I rarely use the backseats, I think I've used my current back seats 4 times in 3 years! For short jaunts!
Man I'm getting excited, I had a dream last night that a local dealer had a titanium with black/tan leather in-stock and I just bought it on the spot not careing that I still have 1year left on my current lease.
evel333 04-29-2003, 10:26 AM I must say I'm kind of the reverse. I have always chosen to forgo comfort, convenience, and practicality for the sheer performance and head-turning that only my 7 gets. I have no other car, so I've used the 7 for hauling everything, from laundry, to furniture, to cases of huge bulk groceries, to lumber and building materials, to filling every last possible nook and cranny with items--leaving rearward visibility only possible through my driver's side mirror--during times of moving, to transporting 3 (yes, 3) other adults.
I too am getting older.
I've settled down with my girlfriend, purchased a house, and am planning to start a family in the next year or so. A Honda Odyssey sounds nice (I'll never get an SUV), but I still want another car that's sporty and intuitive, but affordable...like my 7...uh...$ort of (-_-). I also cherish the rotary and don't want to see it die. I also may want to get another 7 some day, a "new" one perhaps. The RX-8 seems like a decent choice for me. Getting one won't allow me to do anything I haven't already done before...but it sure as hell will be easier! (^_^)
I don't like the ambiguosly gay miata. I want a sportscar with balls, style, and most of all performance. My girlfriend has a 2 seater (350zx), so I should get a 4 seater. Little compares with the RX-8 in my price range that also seats 4 as comfortably. I would have probably gotten a Z or G35c if she didn't get the Z.

I've had three Miatas and I didn't even know I was gay. I thought I was making my purchase decisions based on principles of handling prowess, cost, reliabilty, etc. I guess subconsciously I just was thinking of having sex with other men. Thanks, for straightening that out for me.
I also want an RX-8. Since you have established that I am homosexual does this also make the RX-8 "ambiguosly gay"?

that's extremely funny considering the context.:D nice pun
Toadman 04-29-2003, 04:45 PM I don't like the ambiguosly gay miata. Someone needs a lap in one on an auto-X or road course, imho.

LMAO! No, from what I have seen of the RX-8, sexual preference has little to do with the buyer's culture. I am from california, and everyone I have seen driving a Miata has VERY feminine qualities, or just came out of the "Queen Mary".
It is very stereotypical, I know but did you ever see "Corky Romano"?

Toadman, do you think in this context it is wise to offer me a "lap"? :D

Thunder 04-29-2003, 09:53 PM Dear Cyclo,
I was wondering if you could help. I've driven a miata around the track (hard) and just bought an RX-8. Right now I drive an MX-3. Where does that put me on the Kinsey Car Scale? Help!!
Confused
rxeightr 04-29-2003, 10:05 PM Dudes, let me tell you.
Currently I am out on a business trip, and it has been difficult to keep up with the forum since Sunday. I was able to check in last night, so it has been 24 hours since my last visit.
The very 1st post I open is this one, and after the day I had today, all of you who have posted certainly made the people in the holtel room next door wonder what I was laughing so 'hard' at!
If I was gay (not that there is anything wrong with that), you all would be my firsts.
Toadman 04-29-2003, 10:09 PM LOL, Someone needs a "holy-sh*t-sweet Jesus!" turn thru an autocross or road course I see. ;) Don't let the cutesy "chick/gay" car 'mystique' fool you. Nothing will make you a better RWD driver than a Miata. Ask 10,000 Miata club members.
Hey Cylo, I said a lap not a lap-dance, you horn-dawg. :D
Stefchu 05-01-2003, 10:33 AM I too once couldnt not see beyond the "dainty" exterior of the miata. Then i went to Road America for the June sprints and saw miatas flying and powersliding around a track like a automotive sympony. From then on i was hooked and did everything possible to get my dad to purchase one as his fun car he had been planning so long. All told dont underestimate the little guy one turn with mad crazy yet safe and controlable oversteer and you will be hooked.
