he the saleman said the japan rep. from japan stops in alot at cutters mazda.that was his inside info he also said someone rich there has a 2004 yellow turbo with $20,000 add ons but did not see it. we know alot of people are full of it but thats what he told me. so dont reply back with **bs **comments

those foo's at cutter also told me of the 2k4 "special edition RX8 turbo" will be out summer 2k4....did they have the 05' models yet? JN says it will be awhile before they get their shipment. aloha....

If at Turbo RX-8 will use more gas than the current model there is no point in them even thinking about taking this motor any further. Frankly it's sick how much gas this motor uses to generate only 238hp.
Mind you.... the car would be an absolute animal with 300 ponies.

Yes a FI RX-8 would use more gas, but when buying the car most of us knew we were in for subpar gas mileage, either as former/current owners of other rotarys, or through word of mouth. So I say bring on the FI, we know what we're getting into.

As far as a twin turbo, I can't imagine that happening over a single, should they decide to use turbo's at all.

No!!! I heard it was going to a triple rotor, quad turbo, all wheel drive, w/ a 7 speed SMG gearbox (or manual), and adjustable shocks. And the price is going to be $29,999, and along w/ the free maintenance, they're going to pay for gas as well!

On a purely strategic level, I think mazda would find it hard to pitch a twin turbo rotary if the current naturally aspirated Rx8 is reasonably thirsty already. If anything, they would be trying to improve efficiency further and improve fuel economy. Turbocharging would propell them in the other direction. And with increasing fuel costs, I just can't see it happening

kinda on topic, i have a rx8 and am not on the list on bad gas mileage. i usually get ~ 21mpg. 15% city rest interstate. the worst i have got was 18mpg. just after i hit 600 miles and drove the piss out of it.

the brakes are amazing, if you go fast you must slow down.

??? i drove a 78 rx7 about 750 miles and remember getting about 15 mpg. no big deal it was 78 and gas was cheap.

also got to drive the first year twin turbo for about 75 miles, all ugly. great car, wait really great car.

what kinda mileage did the last gen of the rx7 twin turbo get???

10- 15 in the city at best i had two 3rd gens twins , never cared about mpg.when the turbo's kicked in watch out.

Turbochargers aren't going to hurt gas mileage that much. The point of turbochargers are to use a smaller more fuel efficient engine but be able to have morepower when needed. In the case of the RX-8 in your regular driving you will see little diference in fuel economy with a factory turbo vs. the stock naturaly aspirated engine. If you are driving it hard and on boost a lot you will see a decrease in fuel economy.

My 93 with 350RWHP gets better gas mileage than the 8, as long as I'm not going to crazy. Turbos increase a motors efficency by harnesing the energy lost through heat and volumetric expansion. Reliability is the deciding factor, not gas mileage.

Oh, and I gotta call bs. With the advances made in singles, Mazda would never again use a twin setup. Small, efficent single turbos spool damn near as fast, are far more reliable, weigh less, and more importantly, are cheaper to produce. Twins are for V-Configuration piston motors. No need for a twin on a Renny. Although a set of BNR stage 3's running sequential would be interesting. ;)
