BRx8 10-13-2004, 04:55 PM Dennis doesn't even know about this! and you guys are already up-for-grabbing his bed?? LOL! :D guy321 10-13-2004, 04:56 PM Oh, BTW.. this is Memorial Day weekend. alnielsen 10-13-2004, 04:58 PM I've walked from O'hare to DT Chicago before.. It's only about 20 minutes walk from O'hare to the L stop that takes you into town.. at the time is was under construction and they were blasting the road tho.. something river road.. The "EL" goes all the way to O'Hare now. Kari 10-13-2004, 05:00 PM Well, the 4 of us are up for grabs on YOUR bed, B. I felt bad for the waiter tho!! >.< Did we ever tip him? lol zoom44 10-13-2004, 05:37 PM well we're all still trying to make all this out...it started as a small gethering of guy, simplyblue, meow, and kari but has all of a sudden turned into a full blown meet...! i thought we started "planning" this back in august (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=36693&highlight=east+west) when 93rdcurent started the other thread  lol kari i forgot about the hair!!i didnt tip him anything it took way to long to get our food and then fix your hair problem. Kari 10-13-2004, 05:59 PM Yeah, 93rdcurrent was talking about a west meets east meet that should be planned sometime. Then awhile ago simplyblue and I were talking about going to chicago to rain on B's parade. :D So then we (more like simplyblue) initiated a plan of meet between us 2 including guy and meowloud to party down in B's place. Then guy came up with the plan that since we're doing that, it'd be fun to add the forum into the mix and make it the east meets west meet and meet there in Chicago since we'll be there already and it seems to be centered enough. :) zoom44 10-13-2004, 06:03 PM oh ok thanks for bringing me up to speed Kari:) truemagellen 10-13-2004, 06:22 PM SWEEET I'm going if this is for real...someone make a sticky and/or a webpage please 93rdcurrent 10-13-2004, 06:46 PM HEY WAIT A MINUTE NAW!!! This was my idea and how is it that the location and activities are being decided and I didn't even get notified! I say we meet in Chicago at BRX8's and we make sure we feed Kari (we should call it Kari's potluck :) ) and we should have as many owners drive as possible. I'll drive! and I will stay with some friends downtown. And of course this is for real! I brought this idea up about a month ago and yes magell'n you're in (yet another nickname... :D ) Morgan 10-13-2004, 07:20 PM hmmm...so that means we're leaving me at the airport....::shrug:: maybe sombody there will take me home with them if i just look at them like i'm a lost puppy shelleys_man_06 10-13-2004, 07:27 PM Dude, why can't y'all have a meet in Houston? :( BRx8 10-13-2004, 07:28 PM HEY WAIT A MINUTE NAW!!! :D ) lol! nothing at all has been decided! i had no idea Guy was going to offically make this a "meet"! it all started out as just a small gathering between SimplyBlue, Kari, Guy, Meowloud and I since we play online games at night and thought it'd be cool to just meet up at the halfway point which is Chicago...so it really had nothing to do with the thread you proposed earlier although now it makes more sense to just have that meet since we'll all be in the area anyway! 93rdcurrent 10-13-2004, 07:30 PM So it's your house then? ;) and I'll pick up Morgan then since no one else has jumped at the chance. I got your back Morgan! :D Morgan 10-13-2004, 07:37 PM No, no...it's ok..i'm going to just stay at the airport and pray my future aussie jewish doctor husband appears and sweeps me off my feet..:D zoom44 10-13-2004, 07:40 PM 93rd you HAVE to pick her up. otherwise your little pimpette will slap you around!! or is that REFUSE to slap you around?!;) 93rdcurrent 10-13-2004, 07:59 PM 700 miles... I'm going to drive from Washington State. Come on bring the car :) zoom44 10-13-2004, 08:00 PM dude we havent seen YOURS!! plus 700 is nothing. that's just 7 hours of driving:) mpt_yellowRX8 10-13-2004, 08:33 PM Like I mentioned to you earlier this year BRx8, my wife and I are making a trip around that time so it looks like we will see you there after all. Are there any twisties around Chicago or is it all four lanes? truemagellen 10-13-2004, 08:47 PM this is the inspiration I need to buy a laser jammer :) oh and I'm in unless it is during the graduation weekend of my girlfriend I'm thinking about putting a list of my nicknames in my signature since even I can't remember them all :p G8rboy 10-13-2004, 09:00 PM No, no...it's ok..i'm going to just stay at the airport and pray my future aussie jewish doctor husband appears and sweeps me off my feet..:D I got ya Morgan... don't worry ; ). This is too cool- where has this thread been hiding? I'll help organize anything if needed... guy321 10-13-2004, 09:06 PM This is starting to sound really cool. I'll have to see if I can fit it into my calendar! BTW, Gr8boy is organizing everything !! :D rotarygod 10-13-2004, 09:22 PM This may be east meets west but it is still up north. What about the south? A more central location like Oklahoma City or as far north as Witchita, Kansas makes more sense. Although I don't think there's anything to do in Witchita! The south shall rise again! guy321 10-13-2004, 09:26 PM Dude, I live in the south. This thing went 2 or 3 months with no one making a decision.. Kari, Brx8 and Simplyblue have decided. We must heed thier wisdom! :D G8rboy 10-13-2004, 09:39 PM This is starting to sound really cool. I'll have to see if I can fit it into my calendar! BTW, Gr8boy is organizing everything !! :D D'oh! Luftwaffle 10-13-2004, 10:53 PM lol! nothing at all has been decided! i had no idea Guy was going to offically make this a "meet"! it all started out as just a small gathering between SimplyBlue, Kari, Guy, Meowloud and I since we play online games at night and thought it'd be cool to just meet up at the halfway point which is Chicago...so it really had nothing to do with the thread you proposed earlier although now it makes more sense to just have that meet since we'll all be in the area anyway! And what do I do with my free time? I'm gonna bring my games and crash the party. Who wants to play Katamari Damacy? XD truemagellen 10-14-2004, 01:16 AM Who wants to play Katamari Damacy? XD what is that? :) rx-cars_rock 10-14-2004, 03:42 AM I'll pick up morgan! BTW there is tons of stuff to do in Chicago. Millenium Park, Museums, Lake Michigan, LSD(Lake Shore Drive), the best pizza you will ever eat, Water Tower, Sears Tower, Buckingham Fountain, and Gingerman Raceway is only a few hours from the city(in Michigan) Luftwaffle 10-14-2004, 07:44 AM what is that? :) It's this PS2 game where you roll stuff up into balls. The King of All Cosmos accidentally destroys all the stars in the sky. So you as the Dashing Prince have to help restore the stars by rolling up items on earth into your katamari for your dad to place back into the heavens as stars. You start off with this little ball and you roll it over thumbtacks, paper clips, grapes, etc. Before you know it, you're picking up pens, batteries, mice and tangerines. It just keeps going, soon you start rolling up people and cars and trees into this huge ball of stuff. It's really, really weird, but totally fun. Music is good too. Razpewton 10-14-2004, 08:08 AM You guys PM me the details and I'll create a web section.... truemagellen 10-14-2004, 08:59 AM You guys PM me the details and I'll create a web section.... thank you thank you truemagellen 10-14-2004, 09:00 AM It's this PS2 game where you roll stuff up into balls. Music is good too. ssounds like fun...I guess I'll have to install a ps2 in my car now...unless they have it for xbox :) SiMplyBluE 10-14-2004, 10:42 AM There is no frickin way I'm driving to Chicago! I think a trip taking 12 hours one way should be done only once in a year and I'd prefer saving that for DT (unless I can hitch a ride :D). Plus I like the idea of BRx8 being our chauffeur in Chicago :D So far we've decided the city and the dates i.e. Memorial Day weekend of May 28th, 29th & 30th. Now I guess we need to decide on the itenary for those days.......and also we need a couple people take the lead on this, preferably Chicago residents cough BRx8 cough G8RBoy cough DMenac7 cough cough....... guy321 10-14-2004, 10:46 AM You should also go ahead and see about getting vendors to contribute door prizes. Just have them send all the prizes to me for inspection first :D There used to be a Karaoke bar on the Navy Pier.. If it's still there , you can go there and make the entire pier suffer with the soulful sounds of rx8 club members. :D guy321 10-14-2004, 10:57 AM I think it's highly unfair that this thread was moved to the lounge as it is a serious thread about a meet. Im not sure where it would go since it isn't a regional meet. However, I don't think it belongs in the lounge. Intrigue 8 10-14-2004, 10:59 AM to far for me. guy321 10-14-2004, 11:00 AM They have these new things called Airplanes :D It's a 20 hour drive for me :( to far for me. RX-GR8 10-14-2004, 11:08 AM I think it's highly unfair that this thread was moved to the lounge as it is a serious thread about a meet. Im not sure where it would go since it isn't a regional meet. However, I don't think it belongs in the lounge. i didn't move it. the tone of the thread in the beginning sounded like it was just a big goof on brx8 perhaps thats why it was moved. RX-GR8 10-14-2004, 11:09 AM They have these new things called Airplanes :D It's a 20 hour drive for me :( are you going or just organizing? :D Feras 10-14-2004, 11:11 AM ill go to this thing by plane if its gonna happen, but since ill need a car, ill rent a car, and all us flyboys and flygirls can come with me. guy321 10-14-2004, 11:13 AM I'm not organizing.. There's an 82.584% chance I will be going. It all depends on how I feel that week :D. This wasn't a joke on Bryan. I told him to make the post, but he told me to do it. So I did ! We don't really have anyone organizing yet.. I am helping, as will Simplyblue, and hopefully a few of the IL people. Maybe it will be a committe thing! are you going or just organizing? :D guy321 10-14-2004, 11:14 AM I might be able to get us good rental rates if we need cars.. A friend of mine works at Alamo. You don't really need a car. Just take the El. Feras 10-14-2004, 11:17 AM I might be able to get us good rental rates if we need cars.. A friend of mine works at Alamo. You don't really need a car. Just take the El. i get a corporate rate from hertz and hertz has mazdas :) truemagellen 10-14-2004, 11:29 AM So far we've decided the venue and the dates i.e. Memorial Day weekend of May 28th, 29th & 30th. Now I guess we need to decide on the itenary for those days.......and also we need a couple people take the lead on this, preferably Chicago residents cough BRx8 cough G8RBoy cough DMenac7 cough cough....... those dates should work out just fine there shouldn't be a need to rent any cars remember our car seats 4 :) and I should have my back seats open (if my gf comes if she doesn't then 3 seats open :)) hey i didn't know Dmenac's from chicago truemagellen 10-14-2004, 11:35 AM on the itinerary we should have some sessions by 8 owners who can show us how to do different services on our car...or installations, etc. hey you can use my car to demonstrate a MS flywheel install for instance :) but other helpers like how to change the oil. tranny/differential fluid swap, HU removal (I can do that one in my sleep :)), filter changing, etc. SiMplyBluE 10-14-2004, 11:40 AM on the itinerary we should have some sessions by 8 owners who can show us how to do different services on our car...or installations, etc. hey you can use my car to demonstrate a MS flywheel install for instance :) but other helpers like how to change the oil. tranny/differential fluid swap, HU removal (I can do that one in my sleep :)), filter changing, etc. Which then brings up the issue of space for doing all these sessions.....Anyone in Chicago know any Mazda dealerships who'd be willing to sponsor this and provide a location? How about getting a blessing as an Official RX8 US Meet? truemagellen 10-14-2004, 11:49 AM why is my post count stuck at 666?... RX-GR8 10-14-2004, 11:50 AM posts in the lounge dont count. Ajax 10-14-2004, 11:50 AM Erm, is this for real? I was kinda out of it all day yesterday but if this is for real, I am so in, it's even a question considering chicago is my original home town and any excuse i can make to go back I make. Course, I don't know that I'd drive from texas as it's a 17 hour drive, but I might, you never know. truemagellen 10-14-2004, 12:00 PM posts in the lounge dont count. I know I know...geez :p (I was trying to suggest we move the thread to another area of the forum so it doesn't get lost in the lounge which is currently in political civil war right now) Razpewton 10-14-2004, 12:14 PM Okay....I gave up my lunch for you guys.... EAST MEETS WEST WEBSITE (http://www.mazdanow.com/chicago/index.htm) . . . Maybe a compassionate MOD will sticky this! :D Red Devil 10-14-2004, 12:29 PM I'd like to profit off this endeavor in some way. So seeing that I usually go home to Florida on Memorial Day weekend, I may consider auctioning off my apartment for that weekend. It's a small one bedroom on State St. on the 54th floor overlooking the lake and Oak Street Beach. And depending on the bid, the lucky winner may find a fridge stocked with two cases of beer - only implied guarantees on that, though. Oh, usage of my 8 would cost extra, unless it's a hot girl like Morgan. The auction starts...now...bid with confidence, no Paypal. Razpewton 10-14-2004, 12:45 PM One of youse Chicago boyz needs to decide who is the head-weenie-organizer for this event, or you'll have people flying halfway across the U.S. to tour the Chicago International Airport. BRx8 said he's not the organizer-type....so someone grab the bull but the rotary and forge ahead. I'm not going to do it as I don't think I'll be able to make that one AND I live in FLORIDA! Let me know when youse decides and I'll update the website. :) guy321 10-14-2004, 12:49 PM Thanks RAZ We appreciate it!!! guy321 10-14-2004, 12:52 PM So far we have??? Kari Brx8 Simplyblue Meowloud Me Truemagellan Morgan 93rdcurrent gr8boy Ajax Razpewton??????????(cmon man!) zoom44 mpt_yellowrx8 RX-GR8 10-14-2004, 12:56 PM I know I know...geez :p (I was trying to suggest we move the thread to another area of the forum so it doesn't get lost in the lounge which is currently in political civil war right now) i can move it but someone else moved it to the lounge so i dont think i should be stepping on anybodys toes. BRx8 10-14-2004, 12:58 PM yes thank you, i'm off the hook...i'm definitely not a coordinator type, i've never even been to a meet let alone know what happens during them... what i can do is check on those cruise tickets and see if we can get group rates, find out local events happening during Memorial Day, etc... Razpewton 10-14-2004, 01:00 PM yes thank you, i'm off the hook...i'm definitely not a coordinator type, i've never even been to a meet let alone know what happens during them... what i can do is check on those cruise tickets and see if we can get group rates, find out local events happening during Memorial Day, etc... Watch out! You're beginning to cordinate.... LOL :D My suggestion to you would also be to find a relatively nice hotel near some of Chicago activities, with a place which could host a group dinner (main event). Then convince one or two of the others to help with the planning and delegate some responsibilities their way. Then you start listing facets of your event.....will you have t-shirts? (Chicago Underground,,,,cool)......dinner?......night out?.....group dinner cruise would be cool........maps......lists with attendees phone numbers.....a Saturday outing? Zoo? A Sunday outing? Sponsors? Doorprizes? Gift Certificates? Try to keep everyone at the same motel, witin walking distance of at least one or two attractions or sections. (Maybe Chinatown) Just suggestions....GOOD LUCK!! oy yeah....and one more, important detail......whatever hotel you put Meow up in, make SURE the rooms have plenty of electrical outlets. :D :D guy321 10-14-2004, 01:02 PM We can do this as a grope effort! guy321 10-14-2004, 01:03 PM We jsut have drunken orgies. Actually, is there an rx-8 club out in that area? Don't forget.. We have 9 months to do this.. that means procrastinate until April 15th then cram everything together in the last month. yes thank you, i'm off the hook...i'm definitely not a coordinator type, i've never even been to a meet let alone know what happens during them... what i can do is check on those cruise tickets and see if we can get group rates, find out local events happening during Memorial Day, etc... SiMplyBluE 10-14-2004, 01:15 PM We can do this as a grope effort! You can never say anything without any sexual innuendos! BRx8 10-14-2004, 01:15 PM Watch out! You're beginning to cordinate.... LOL :D damn, i'd better stop! :D j/k, i'll help out as much as i can but in terms of putting it all together, i'll leave that to someone more qualified than myself...if i were in charge, all we'd do for 3 days straight is hit the bars and get wasted  Meowloud 10-14-2004, 01:16 PM WOW Raz! That is a nice site already! :D guy321 10-14-2004, 01:25 PM This is why we wanted you in charge! if i were in charge, all we'd do for 3 days straight is hit the bars and get wasted  BRx8 10-14-2004, 01:35 PM hmm...so i suppose i better not mention my bikini car wash idea, huh? 93rdcurrent 10-14-2004, 01:37 PM why is my post count stuck at 666?...That's cool! :D Kari 10-14-2004, 01:39 PM hmm...so i suppose i better not mention my bikini car wash idea, huh? Can I crash? :D Feras 10-14-2004, 02:00 PM lets get some hotel rooms, and put like 6-8 people in em splits really nice :) Ajax 10-14-2004, 02:01 PM You need to add Rush Street to your list of things to do and if I go to chicago, sometime that weekend I am going out to the suburbs to bob chinn's crab house in wheeling. The one downtown is not the same. 93rdcurrent 10-14-2004, 02:24 PM Even more people... Yeah! The fat suit? Uh I don't think you would want to be washing cars in Chicago wearing a fat suit. I don't know why don't we leave it up to concensus... should we start a poll? :D Red Devil 10-14-2004, 02:28 PM I'm not a fan of Rush Street, Wrigleyville and Southport/Milwaukee are much better in my opinion. Ajax 10-14-2004, 02:30 PM I'm not a fan of Rush Street, Wrigleyville and Southport/Milwaukee are much better in my opinion. Wrigleyville is nice.. i'm not a milwaukee fan at all because well.. i hate wisconsin, the packers and cheeseheads! lol! Red Devil 10-14-2004, 02:32 PM Not Milwaukee, WI, I meant the Southport Ave/Milwaukee Ave. area of Chicago. Basically right next to Wrigleyville. MadRonin 10-14-2004, 02:49 PM Here's (http://www.tenthousandwaves.com/index.html) another possible venue, though a little further southwest. :D Kari 10-14-2004, 02:51 PM Ooh good one mad! :D BRx8 10-14-2004, 02:52 PM should we start a poll? :D ...it has...BEGUN! I just don't know the town. Last time I was in Illinois I was about 2. I will help keeping track of details if that sounds good. Raz has done a great job with the web page. Thanks Raz! :D Sorry BRx8 you da man. Red Devil 10-14-2004, 03:42 PM Here's a list of things I think are unique and within Chicago proper that come to mind: WWII German U Boat - Museum of Science and Industry (one captured during WWII) Lion Skins from "Ghost and the Darkness Film" and complete T-Rex Skeleton - Fields Museum Numerious Impressionist Era, Jackson Pollock and Winslow paintings - Art Institute Chicago Pizza - Uno, Gino's East, Giordano's Wrigley Field/Wrigleyville - lots of bars and such Frank Lloyd Wright Architecture Ernest Hemingway Museum and birthplace Magnificent Mile - for those that want to clothes shop Sears Tower - not a big deal to me, but everyone always wants to go BRx8 10-14-2004, 04:03 PM Lion Skins from "Ghost and the Darkness Film" and complete T-Rex Skeleton - Fields Museum yea, Sue is the largest and most complete T.Rex in the world...now do you want to come, Raz?? http://www.fieldmuseum.org/exhibits/sue_permexhib.htm Chicago Pizza - Uno, Gino's East, Giordano's Wrigley Field/Wrigleyville - lots of bars and such i've always preferred New York style thin crust pizzas but a lot of people do like the stuffed pizzas of Giordano's...it looks like it's inside out, imo :) and Wrigleyville is a great place to barhop Magnificent Mile - for those that want to clothes shop Sears Tower - not a big deal to me, but everyone always wants to go Michigan Ave is pretty nice to just visit and not even buy anything...it has a huge FAO Schwartz, Nike Town with indoor basketball court so you can try out your skids before you buy them, and Oprah's house...i wonder if we can crash Oprah's house and ask for free cars Sears Tower is boring...i've been there once the entire time i've lived in Chicago which is all my life (not including the few times i ate lunch there in the Mezzanine)...i pass it up every day to and from work...there's really not much to do except go up to the top and see the city... mpt_yellowRX8 10-14-2004, 04:19 PM I forgot about the FLW museum. I did a paper on his work in college and man he was a magnificent designer. There's so much about the man's work that amazes me that i can't even come close to explaining. There's so much cool stuff to do downtown- we spend about one weekend a month down doing a museum, Navy Pier (I love the live music at the beer garden), Gino's East or Ed Debevics, etc. BTW, for any Chicago 8's that don't frequent the MW forum- there's a big get together/cruise with the RX7 club guys at the Streets of Woodfield, 2pm, this Saturday (16th). mpt_yellowRX8 10-14-2004, 05:54 PM I didn't say it! :D truemagellen 10-14-2004, 07:42 PM ahhh!!!! All I can say is that I post here alot. I like to make it fun (for me atleast) when I post. Yes, I do draw some attention. Do I go out of my way to do it? No. I just like to ask questions and make jokes that I think are entertaining. And ALOT of the things that draw the most attention aren't done by me. I just go with it. Meowloud 10-15-2004, 01:31 PM Wow!! And US on the 8 club are the pessimistic, un-funloving type! :D DAM! LOL I thought this was a great idea. We've had a couple of little 'party meets' and just thought we'd include everyone. Ya, this isn't the type where you sit and look at each other's car all day... but I don't think that's a good reason to rain on someone's parade. Guy has arraigned several good 'party meets', and in fact.. we have one coming up in 2 weeks but we didn't advertise it! Instead of bashing someone... why not try to help? Or, if you're not interested in going.. why troll? I'm disappointed at a couple of you! :( SiMplyBluE 10-15-2004, 01:36 PM I'm just watching this thread, shaking my head ... if you seriously want to plan a get-together, we already have the Revolution in Indy.Did you consider DT a waste of time too? :) RX-GR8 10-15-2004, 01:42 PM i was busting guys balls and joking around. just like he does all day long. i hope you know that guy if not you should. this is going to be a monumental undertaking to organize but if it can be done great. you never know who just might show up. :D zoom44 10-15-2004, 01:44 PM ike's in right? i got your Back Ike!! and if you dont want that punishment from meowloud we could probably just raffle that off and make BIG MONEY!!!!:);) RX-GR8 10-15-2004, 01:46 PM ike's in right? i got your Back Ike!! and if you dont want that punishment from meowloud we could probably just raffle that off and make BIG MONEY!!!!:);) you want to get behind ike? SiMplyBluE 10-15-2004, 01:50 PM you want to get behind ike? You should like you want to be part of it! :D Zoom44: Great fund raising idea, now to get Ike to agree to it. Meowloud 10-15-2004, 01:52 PM Heck YA! I'll get BEHIND Ike :D :D guy321 10-15-2004, 01:52 PM So, back to the topic at hand. Did anyone have any ideas on where to book rooms? Maybe if you stayed somewhere close to ChinaTown or the Navy Pier. (maybe within stagger...er.....walking distance). And believe me...if it's close to a NAVY Pier...there's gonna be all kinds of wild-n-crazy stuff to do! Big D lives in Springfield, which is consideribly south of there...3 hours I think. The attitude we received was, "No...you don't need your own group. You'll join ours or we'll come over on the RX-8 board and FLAME your efforts." Which is exactly what happened. We either join your activities or get flamed for organizing our own. We either submit to the RX-7club humor, or shut up. (we're tight-ass snobs anyway). Join our RX-7club "Folding@Home" program, giving others access to your computer. If you don't, you're NOT a "ROTARY BROTHER". I've read some of the threads on the RX-7club forum. Besides having a "Kills Section", which is against the Terms of Service on this forum, you have such threads as: Calling All Black People (http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=358442) WOW! What a collection of racism! While Masturbating the Other Night (http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=312355) and So i almost cut my dick off and break my neck on acident to.. (http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=358474) Not to mention the thread where all the posters where going to OTHER forums to cause as much trouble as they could, then coming back to brag about their accomplishments. Have you ever stopped to think that even though you're the Head Weenie for both forums, you may be dealing with two completely different styles of people? We're constantly given the RX-7 guilt trip, but then treated like we THINK we are snobs or have "puckered little booties." RANT OVER By the way, can we sticky this thread? :) guy321 10-15-2004, 02:41 PM Well, I would say that I do. The reason is that you and I never converse on here. The last time we talked to eachother in a thread you had also made the same type of comments. That was also the first time we'd ever communicated. I shrugged it off as a joke and even made some jokes about it myself. You normally don't post very much. Since then, one of the few things I saw you post was when you said we 8 owners need to lighten up. Then, today I see all this pessimism as well as another jab at me being an attention whore. To my knowledge, no one else besides RXGR8 has done so. Given that RXGR8 and I have exchanged posts in forum, talked in chat, and talked on the phone, I know that RXGR8 jokes alot. I never converse with you, so when I see such negative comments about myself and other 8 owners, I can only assume they are serious, and yes, I do have a problem with that. I'm ready to put this behind us as Id rather not discuss this in open forum anymore. However, I invite you to PM me if you wish. meow ... pffftttt It's obviously you who has the problem with me. My bad for not realizing you did invite the 7 guys, I guess it was their loss. The event looked like fun, and I've personally driven that road before, it is incredible! You guys are the only ones getting bent out of shape, my only goal for the past 15 years has been to bring everyone together. Which is why elitist attitudes are not appreciated by me personally. The FD owners were guilty of it for a long long time which only worked to segment the community, since then the general owner demographic has changed, and so has their attitude. Now, it's coming from here. Most 8 owners are cool, but as I've told the RX-8 guys at local events, our strength is in numbers, there aren't enough of us to keep dividing in into separate little groups. Plus, you all stand a lot to learn by hanging out with the 7 owners, because we've been there, done that. Appreciate our knowledge, and we'll appreciate your desire to learn. YOUR elitist attitude is well demonstrated here, by linking to those threads ... as if you and 8 owners are better than that. Please, there are just as many examples on this board. It's just human nature, human behavior. The difference is I don't judge, the same guys that act immature on the board can be a great bunch of people to hang out with. I give them that chance, while you obviously think you're better. And while guy321 may be an attention whore, we have plenty of them on rx7club as well, and some of the biggest offenders are good friends of mine personally ... no judgement, no snobbery from me. I appreciate the role of everyone on the board, even the attention whores. A big part of the forums allure is the fun attitude in the Lounge. I'll just keep doing what I've always been doing, and in time 8 owners and 7 owners will learn to play nice with each other. I was simply responding to your remark about the 7's not being invited. Additionally, as a favor to you, I was giving you a few bullets as to why some folks on here may feel the way they do. I think you're confusing elitist with non-conformist. How is it elitist when EVERYONE has been invited to every function we've ever put together? I'd say more non-conformist because I for one, reject the notion that any effort we make to bring folks together to meet and socialize is considered a "total waste of time" and that once again, if we want be a part of an activity, we should join one recommended to us. pfffffft :) BOOSTD 7 10-15-2004, 11:22 PM The point is why try and organize a mid-west meet when there already is a very successful and established one. The only reason would be so that you could call it yours. The counter-point is this: Some people don't like to be controlled. They like to do their own, personalized thing and not be swallowed up by the grandness of an organized, sanctioned event. I'm not trying to take away from anything you have done or accomplished. This forum is an awesome place to meet, converse and share bits and pieces of life, both car-related and other. It's easy to control a forum, but more difficult to control people. People reject herding. It's a characteristic which separates us from cattle.....um....except in guys321's case. :D If your words were true about this being a labor of love, and that you're more of an enthusiast than a profiteer, people will continue to come here...and they'll continue to give business to the vendors who sponsor this site. I plan on buying some clear sides from one of them today and an exhaust in the very near future. Thanks for giving us the freedom to speak our minds and for sharing your thoughts, without shutting down the thread or banning anyone. Maybe we all understand each other a little better....maybe not. Can we start a new thread, entitled East Meets West ~ Chicago Style and sticky it? I promise to not be a rebel for at least another two weeks. :D :D guy321 10-16-2004, 09:05 AM I didn't even know about any "well established mid-west meet". The idea to have a meet where the east coast and west coast users could attend was brought up by 93rdcurrent several months back. And since some of the members here were talking about meeting up in Chicago, then I felt it would be nice to invite other members, like 93rdcurrent who would also enjoy meeting people from across the country. We didn't wake up one day and say.. "Oh wow! There's a mid-west meet. Let's make our own so we can spite them! Yeah! That sounds like FUN!" Personally, I've been to Indy. I don't really know anyone from the 7 forum because I am not a member of the 7 forum, therefore I would rather meet with people that I do know. I will make some 7club events in the future, but those people are not who I converse with on the forum everyday. I wouldn't enjoy a meet with the 7 club as much because I am shy and would be uncomfortable around a large group of people that I don't know at all. I was headed to Chicago around that time too so I figured I could push the trip back two weeks. BOOSTD 7 10-16-2004, 12:06 PM I didn't even know about any "well established mid-west meet". Open your eyes my friend. Front page of the forum, Rotary Revolution AND Midwest Rotary Rally, both in the MidWest. Here's the bottom line, those events that get their own sections have proven their capability to host and organize a successful car/social event. If this thing is really going to happen, you still have a lot to prove. Idle chit chat in the Lounge means nothing. If you want a sticky as a way of promoting the event, it'll have to appear a lot more serious first. Right now it's just a handful of loungers BS'ing - no offense. And whether you like being part of an organized event or not, that's the only ones we can officially support with Stickies and subforums ... we have to weed out the posers. BUT I don't want to go to another "organized" event. This event we're planning now is something we're doing on our own to meet other forum members on a more friendly and personal level. The only reason would be so that you could call it yours. i hope you understand that we didn't "try and organize" a meet, this thing just all of a sudden came up...what started out as 4 or 5 of us just wanting to meet each other was posted on the General Discussion page and a lot of people showed interest, mostly Loungers that we converse with everyday...this wasn't as an attempt to undermine yours or anyone else's control, in fact the only reason why i think you brought that up is simply because YOU feel that this gethering is an attempt to undermine yours or anyone else's control over it... what you fail to realize is that this isn't about cars and we aren't getting any sponsors or whatnot...this has nothing to do about rotary engines or 7's or 8's...this all has to do with people we "hang out" with everyday here on the forum shooting the shit doing events that have absolutely nothing to do with cars...the only difference here is that we're hanging out in real life and we'd appreciate it even if you came and hung out with us...everyone is invited, once we're done tallying what everyone wants to do, we'll get a schedule up, you pick what you want to do, where you want to stay, and we all meet up at the appointed place/time...how hard is that? for people that want to hang out at the bars with us, so be it...for people that don't, i'm sure they can find other members to hang out with that night and cruise downtown Chicago... as you can see, not one person is organizing this event, it's a group effort and we're asking everyone to get involved and throw in ideas on what to do and where to go, etc....what's to say they're not going to make it to your Rotary Revolution anyway? these two things have nothing to do with each other... I have just read this thread from start... to finish... at work... hiding from my Lieutenant... waiting for lunch... hungry as hell... occasionally shaking my fist at the monitor... laughing... and pouting! I would just like to say... I am coming to this meet, regardless to whether it's officially sanctioned/sponsored/organized or not! This is probably my first time getting involved in any thread in the lounge (I'm not a lounge type of guy), but I promise, you will see more of me! Anyway, as I was saying, I have made up my mind, based upon the happenings in this thread, I will BE in Chi-Town Memorial day weekend, to HAVE SOME FUN WITH PEOPLE I CAN PERCEPTIBLY RELATE WITH! Not to look at cars all day, (though I would like to take some pics and peeks), not to race my car against other eight owners, (though I do like the more than occasional adrenaline rush), and not to try to decide which is better/OBSOLETE, the 7 or the 8! (Loving Jab;)) Reasons I'd like to go: My birthday is May 17! (So... I can spend quality, respectable time w/my family on that day, and get extra plastered/slizzard for memorial day weekend:D) I've been to Chicago, for less than a day, 2x (one more reason to stay over night) I love model Railroads, (the exhibit at the Museum BLEW MY MIND, a perfect excuse to leave home, spend some money, and see it again) For some odd reason I just love driving under the entire length of the L Downtown! My best friend's, twin sister moved to Chicago a couple of years back, and is, if I recall correctly, a big wig at the Renaissance hotel, so I MAY be able to pull some strings for the group! I have only met one other 8 owner, very briefly: in person, in my home town, while driving! (I have got to meet some of you guys/gals!) I think I may be the "token" 8 owner! (yes, that is a satirical jab at a reference in a post made earlier on this thread, to prove that jokes are like traffic on a six lane highway... Everyone is fine until someone loses control, then it can be downright ugly... So PLEASE, be careful... and watch your blind spots!;)) So in summation, post the list of potential attendees, and add me to it! P.S. I can't say it enough, "I love this Web Site about as much as I love my car!" 93rdcurrent 10-17-2004, 12:18 PM Open your eyes my friend. East Meets West - Chicago Style registration (http://www.mazdanow.com/chicago/register.htm) BOOSTD 7 10-17-2004, 09:19 PM That's funny because I had my "Drive around Couer d' Alene Lake" event stickied... I wasn't trying to organize anything as grand is this but that didn't seem to stop anyone from attending. Plus I think I'm pretty good with a bump every now and then to get the thread moved back up to the top... ;) In a Regional section, not the Lounge ... if you want it stickied, that's no problem in the MW section. snap-on 10-17-2004, 09:26 PM In a Regional section, not the Lounge ... if you want it stickied, that's no problem in the MW section. The sign up roster already looks national. Surely the general disscussion forum? Suggestion: Once you've figured out which hotel you'll be using, call ahead and find out what their Memorial Day activity is like. Is that peak or off season? Once you've determined number of attendees, ask for a group discount and block of rooms. Enough notice and they can arrange rooms together along the same corridor. Don't forget a place for the banquet. Also keep in mind that if you share rooms, you'll cut your individual lodging in half. Four to a room and you'll quarter it. :D SiMplyBluE 10-18-2004, 12:25 PM Raz: Great job on the site! Should help us tremendously to make this event a success. Feras: You flying or driving? Meow: Special Treatment huh.....guess I missed out on that at DT :p |
