View Full Version : License Plate??
Kart Racer 10-13-2004, 12:04 PM anyone else have their front license plate sitting at home, Vs. on the Car?? I know Rotorwheee had it off at the meet....i really love the look of the car without the plate, but im pretty worried about getting a useless ticket that I could have avoided......let me know what your experiences are with these....thanks!
hobbes 10-13-2004, 12:13 PM You need to have your plate up front here in T.O., you can look up your local laws from any police website.
As for specs on what you can do. Rotorwheee didn't remove, )unless you did?) I remember his custom made licence..hmm..holder? that left the front grill unblocked.
I agree this is the look it should have. When I last spoke to him and his wife, they did mention that you can crop really closely around the plate that you have to make it smaller.
So Al in all, must have plate visable upfront. Perhaps you can pick up a tinited plate cover to make you feel better about it?

ÜberJumper 10-13-2004, 12:16 PM I've had my car for a couple months and have had the front plate off the entire time. No hassles yet, and I've been through a couple of speed traps and seatbelt checks with nothing being said.
Alberta drivers don't need a front plate, so I've had mine off since I got my 8. And I agree...it does look better! :D
rotten42 10-13-2004, 12:22 PM In Calgary you don't need it....even when we did, I only got hassled once during a check stop. My buddy was driving my car and the cop gave him the ticket. ($20) The cop was being a dink so we took it to court. We first argued that as the registered owner (I) should have received the ticket. The Crown asked for more time. The second time we tied the arguement into the challenge for the seatbelt law that was being pushed through at the time. (I can't remember the specifics). The Crown asked for more time. The third time we argued on Constitutional rights...the judge flipped, through out the ticket. .....had a great time wasting the cops time.
RotorWheeee 10-13-2004, 07:42 PM I had to remove it to get the front bumper stone guarded ..... Haven't quite got around to putting it back on:p
Been a bit busy , replacing my wife's stolen car ..... and this past weekend my house was broken in to:mad:.
It's been a bad month and a half

73JPS 10-16-2004, 09:31 PM I have never had a front plate on my (Ontario) car.... no problems so far, but I must say that I am alot more nervous around the police than I would be were it installed... I just can't stand the look of it, so I leave it off.
apaul 10-17-2004, 08:06 PM Good grief, Rotorwheee! That is just rotten! I second hobbes' sentiments. Very best wishes!
RotorWheeee 10-17-2004, 10:29 PM Our Cat came back after getting out last weekend during the robbery. Stinks a bit after a run in with a skunk .... but we are glad to get him back just the same.
Thanks for the thoughts
apaul 10-18-2004, 08:50 AM As the song says, they always do, don't they. When I was a kid, we moved to a new house ... from south of Avenue Road and Lawrence to Ave. and Wilson. Taking the cat out to the car for a strategic stayover at the vet's, moving day morning, she escaped and vanished.
Three weeks later.. she reappeared in the back yard of the new home, wild, skinny & bedraggled. Took some coaxing to get her inside at first..
Glad some things are getting back on track :)

Yea... and you knowing that I got nailed for not having my front plant can't help any. ;)
apaul 10-18-2004, 02:24 PM Nailed the second day I had my '99 Miata in TO. "It's in the trunk, Officer. Dealer forgot to install it, I guess." [ Salesman's suggestion].
Course I had to pay, not him.
Don't think I'll try it again.
In california it is a fix it ticket the first offence. After that, well I am not willing to find that out.
