it's an awesome mouse, trust me. It really does work great. As for a glass surface....I don't know, never tried. As for wireless, I've owned a MX700 since it came out, and NEVER had a problem in any gaming. Just some food for thought...the wireless capability of the Logitech hardware is cable of updating faster than the speed of USB. So here's a question...if the wireless update speed had to be tuned down to the speed of USB, how exactly is it worse than a wired mouse? I can tell you from experience in all realm of gaming, including quake III, wireless is not a problem like it used to be.

I own an MX500 and an MX700. I use the 500 for gaming. The wireless is nice, but you always have to remember to put it back in the cradle when you're done. I've run out of power in the middle of a long CS session a couple times. Although, the main reason I prefer the 500 over the 700 is that it's a lot lighter than the 700 and can be made to move as fast or slow as I want without any extra strain. I keep my sensitivity way low for all FPS games.
This laser thing seems a lot more like a gimmick than anything else. And I don't like how the mouse comes out from under the right thumb so much. I do like the battery power level indicator, I wish they put that on my 700. It tracks 20x faster than opticals it says. I haven't had tracking problems since I got my 500, the old MS Intellimouse I had couldn't track as fast as I could move, but the 500 couldn't be fazed. And the new 510 is even better than the 500. Why the heck would you need even more than that? Also, the 1000 is 80 bucks and I'm cheap. Although, hopefully, this will drive down the price of the 510 to the point where I'll consider upgrading. :D

i can tell you from my experience in boardrooms (glass covered wooden tables mostly) these mice dont even work on those even though the glass is only quarter of an inch thick (guess the light gets diffused too much), you need a mousepad for this kind of mouse but those are easier to find than a sheet of paper (which so happens to also work well (not lined paper though).

Back in college, I used a big piece of corrugated cardboard I duct taped to my desk as a mouse pad. Best surface ever, except that it got dirty like nothing else by the end of a month. Now, I'm using a Ratzpad GS. It's pretty nice, but I have to put little pieces of teflon tape on the feet of my mouse to make it awesome.
More resolution is good, but someone should explain to their marketeers that they are optical devices; hence "optical" is not obsolete....
