View Full Version : Checked your oil lately? Kart Racer 10-07-2004, 12:23 PM hey guys, just did another oil check last night, Starting to approch the low line, anyone added oil so early? I only have 3100Km on the car...... Carlo 10-07-2004, 12:57 PM I have just over 2300KMs and i had to add a little bit of oil.. The dealer told me to check every 500- 750KM. ChrisP 10-07-2004, 01:15 PM 4,500Km and added oil for the first time on Tuesday evening. I probably didn't need to just yet since it was still fractionally above the bottom line but why take the chance? MyRxBad 10-07-2004, 01:20 PM Why are you guys waiting so late to add oil? You should check it often and add as it needs it. Kartracer: yes this is normal for a "Rotary" engine. ChrisP 10-07-2004, 01:24 PM Well, I'm checking every second fill up (at least) and I'm not about to let it get below the bottom line. Since I don't spend quite so much time at high RPM as others might, anywhere between the two lines should be fine. Right now, it's about 3/4 of the way up. Carlo 10-07-2004, 01:39 PM Whats the most you guys have gotten out a tank of gas. assuming your using premium. Carlo 10-07-2004, 02:33 PM No worries...no need to panic 8's enough 10-07-2004, 02:46 PM when i first got my 8 it used 1/2 qt per 1000miles .since i got the m-flash it does use hardly any oil at 3000miles when i change my oil it might be a 1/4 of a qt low Kart Racer 10-07-2004, 02:55 PM Kartracer: yes this is normal for a "Rotary" engine. Thanks, i know its normal, just wondering if everyone else has had a similar case, where around 3000, they had to put more in. Thanks guys! MrJynx 10-07-2004, 05:34 PM i had to put a litre of oil per 1000km till about 5000km. Dealer thought that was odd, made note of it. I"m now at 13500km and I check every other fillup and it's not going down that much(probaly 1 litre per 4000km now).. It gets better!! so does the milage, kinda . . . :) MrJynx hobbes 10-07-2004, 06:12 PM That sounds about right, but it has a lot to do with how you drive and the distance as well. I drive a short ~20Kms to work one way, but on the first long drive I had, heh, to my first meet at D & B, the oil level went down about half way. Mind you, I've been wondering how much oil to pour in based on the oil level on the stick. I hear there's actual math to it, but let's not go crazy here ;) , just wondering if anyone heard anything in the grape vine about that. I have a oil related question. I've been told so many versions as to when to check ye 'ol oil, I stuck with what I've been doing since I've been driving, but wonder what you guys do i n case I'm doing something I shouldn't (sometimes I feel like I'm 16 all over again with the rotary, alas it only "feels" like it :p ) I check it after the engine cools down after a drive (10-15 mins after you I turn off the engine) every other fill up. ________ SEX TUBE (http://www.fucktube.com/) ChrisP 10-07-2004, 09:58 PM According to the book, the amount of oil between low and high marks is 1.7L. When I topped up, the level was just above the low mark. With one (984mL or something similar - I suppose there is some good reason it couldn't be exactly 1L) bottle, the level went to about 3/4 of the way between low and high. Not worth opening a second bottle. Also according to the book. To check the oil, run the car to normal temperature, stop on a flat surface, shut down and wait five minutes. I don't bother removing the cover to get at the dipstick but I'm really careful about where I put my hand - it's hot down there. Also, if you're doing this at night - even at a lit gas station - it's a good idea to have a flashlight. The dipstick tube is nigh invisible - it could be my failing eyesight though! hobbes 10-08-2004, 01:59 PM Thanks. Dang, I guess I missed that in the book, read it the first few days when I had the car, but never looked at it since :p . That makes so much sense. I bought my oil supply from Mazda, the'r 4 L bottles, if I remember correctly, so I have to pour-pull stick out and repeat if needed. Yeah, I leave the cover on as well. I ended up wearing them rubber gloves, like those in CSI, they give enough protection from the burns :D . Mind you, you'll probably get some stares if you wear them at the gas station :p . As for the location of the dip stick, what were they thinking? I use the flashlight as well, so no, it ain't your eye sight ;) ________ American idol dicussion (http://www.tv-gossip.com/american-idol/) Pete 10-12-2004, 01:01 PM Check your oil every other fill up |
