I've been kicking around getting a Lo-Jack for the RX-8. Does anyone have any info about it. Has anyone had one installed and is it worth it. It's kind of pricey...

Thanks,

It's got something like a 95% recovery rate. First off, check to see if the service is available in your area. I do plan on getting it, but then, I get a 50% discount on it since my company is an authorized LoJack dealer. Otherwise, I don't know if I'd bother. $750 is a bit steep for something like that.

The problem with the old Lojack is it has to be activated by the police once you noticed your car was stolen. So what happens when you go to sleep and the next day your car is gone. You call the cops and it might to late. Lojack has noticed a new product that uses the old tech with a new twist. This time if your car is taken it will notify by pager, cellphone, E-mail. Then you call cops. I am leaning toward this option. Heres the link.

Also something else to check as you consider Lo-Jack. You may get a better insurance rate if you have it. I know Liberty Mutal will take 25% off the comprehensive coverage if you have Lo-Jack. Haven't talked to State Farm yet, but intend to ask.

I noticed the Lo-Jack info mentions giving you an insurance cerification form, so there must be several insurance companies that offer a price break.

And yes, the personal notification feature seems the way to go. Particularly if you have more than one car or you fly off on vacation. When the RX8 is home alone, you can have the peace of mind it is still there.

I'm a 911 dispatcher for the police department and I must say, Lo-jack signals are a rare, but exciting occurance, and garners a response equal to, if not greater than, certain bank robberies.

Just about all the field units have a module in their patrol vehicles that activates and gives direction and signal strength once a Lo-jack signal from a stolen vehicle is detected. Soon, as more and more officers notify us at dispatch of their signals, it becomes an all out fox hunt for the missing vehicle. It really gets the officers moving, with perimeters, avenues of approach, and such. They want to catch the bad guy as well as recover the vehicle. Regular "stolen vehicle" reports may sometimes sit pending for over two hours. In that time, your vehicle can be halfway to the Nevada border! Moreover, there is hardly an investigation, more like, "if it shows up, we'll let you know".

If Lo-jack is offered, it's well worth the steep entry fee. Never got it for my 7 (how ironic), but I definitely plan on getting one for the 8, primarily because I'm fearful of the 8's more conventional lock system compared to the 7's unique layout, but that's another thread...
