chinx 04-25-2003, 08:53 PM out at the supermarket parking lot today i saw a lapis blue mazda6 w/ the sport package. it was drenched in rain, and it was STUNNING! i've test-driven the car before but this is the first time i saw it up close on the street. it was such a beautiful and cool-looking car. had a real custom look w/ the sport package and those fancy headlights, real low-down and bad-boy. looked like it was pissed off and fast standing still. it was SO NICE. when i drove the v6 it sounded awesome and handled great. if i were getting a car now it'd be the 8, but next one down the list would be the 6. i dunno why people aren't taking notice of these cars, they're such good cars! the new accords and camrys and maximas are about as ugly and bland and boring as they can get. i was so struck by the 6 today. just thought i'd share that :D
ZoomZoomH 04-25-2003, 09:36 PM i've already seen several 6's on the road, and all of them are stunning to look at :D
Elara 04-25-2003, 10:08 PM That lapis blue is amazing on an already nice-looking car. I wish they had offered that on the 8- I wouldn't have thought twice about that color on it.

Yeah me too. That blue was nice under the sun
Donny Boy 04-26-2003, 07:35 AM I agree with you. The Mazda6 is a great lookin car. And everything inside the car not only looks good, but feels right as well. This car deserves more accolades . . . but then again, Mazda sales are really up.
Keep up the good work Mazda!!
santino 04-26-2003, 01:15 PM the 6 is a pretty nice car. the packaging is great too. a cousin of mine has one--lapis blue sport package-- and i drove it around for one entire day. i have no complaints. the handling is pretty nice, especially for its size.
the interior was pretty impressive too. amber interior lights, climate control, comfy seats. the back had lots of leg room too. but maybe that is because i am short...oh well.
my cousin even put on some new 17 in. Enkei wheels--the RS-Evolutions, and it now looks purposeful.
take it easy guys

AsianStyle 04-26-2003, 02:40 PM Anyone hear any more information on the mazda speed 6? All I know about it so far is 280hp from a trubo i4 and awd. Wonder what the price will be and where it would stand in the Mazda line up? Higher then the rx-8 or right below?
chinx 04-26-2003, 02:50 PM i didn't know anything about the mazdaspeed6. the car in this pix is wearing the a-spec touring body kit from mazdaspeed. i think besides the body kit ms also has some suspension and exhaust components. pretty much the same deal as the stuff ms has for the 8...for now
i'd be stoked if they went ahead w/ a mazdaspeed6, like what they did w/ the protege. where'd you hear this from?
AsianStyle 04-26-2003, 03:00 PM I've heard about it in a couple webpages and some people in the mazda 6 forum. For some reason the forum seems to be down so I no point in giving a link. The information about the awd and 280hp turbo inline 4 is suppose to be pretty old. I was just wondering if anyone else had any more information on it.
mental pimp 04-26-2003, 03:17 PM why an a 4 cylinder engine? wouldnt it better to use the V6 that we see in the 6? all they have to do is turbo charge it
AsianStyle 04-26-2003, 03:31 PM yea I was thinking the same thing, but I guess the inline 4 is easier to work with or something?? Maybe they wanted to keep weight down because they added the turbo and awd?? Well the car is still a prototype so we won't know anything until the car comes out, if it comes out.

One could be that it's more difficult to put a turbocharger on a V-6, and there just might not be enough space to do it w/o major surgery. If the I4 is a closed deck iron block with piston squirters and the V6 is an open deck aluminum block, then the I4 will be much better for forced induction, especially if you have to warranty it.
Remember, Mazdaspeed has to work with whatever Mazda gives them, and the I4 might be the better prospect for a myriad of reasons.

mental pimp 04-26-2003, 08:15 PM ohh ok, was the engine on the mazdaspeed protege the same on the base protege?
AsianStyle 04-26-2003, 11:15 PM I think the mazda speed protege uses the same engine with a turbo to achieve 170hp, which is up from 140.
ZoomZoomH 04-26-2003, 11:23 PM Mazdaspeed Protege uses the same 2.0L engine in the stock Proteges, and bolts on a turbo to it.
stock 2.0L is rated at 130hp, FYI
MSP is rated at 170hp

280 hp, turbo i4, awd ... sounds like an EVO/STi killer :D Produce it, Mazda!

santino 04-27-2003, 03:23 PM mazda used the same internals for the engine...they could have used lower compression pistons, and boosted it higher, but that would have meant a higher price.

I'd prefer an MS6 over a Evo or STi as well, but I would go as far as calling it a Evo/STi killer. Evo has 271HP and STi has 300 compared to the MS6's projected 280HP. They also might be lighter cars then the MS6 due their smaller size, which is one of the main reasons why I would choose the MS6 over the competition.
Sadly, I'm not in the market to replace my daily driver for many years. I'm looking to replace my RX-7. My wife changes cars as fast as she changes her mind and it gets expensive. Hopefully, her next car will be kept longer than 3 yrs.
The 6 is sweet, but the 6 without the body kit is bland and ordinary if you ask me. I've been looking at the 6 heavily and really like it but the body kit is a MUST!
IWANTanRX8 04-28-2003, 12:16 PM I've been very seriously looking at the 6 as well. With a baby on the way in 4 months (and going down to one income as a result), I'm afraid the RX-8 is too pricey for me right now. So, I drove a couple of 6's, one V6 5-speed; the other a 4-cyl 5-speed. Strangely enough, I preferred the 4-cyl. It just felt nicer to drive. Less weight over the front wheels. More willing to rev. Made the car feel lighter and more....well, playful than the V6. Sure, the V6 is the engine of choice for the stoplight wars, but I think the 4-cyl is the choice for carving up twisty roads.
Plus you can't complain too much about 25/32mpg fuel economy.
The V6 comes with an automatic climate control set-up that confused me so much that I would almost buy the 4-cyl just to get the manual climate control!
Overall, I really liked the 6. Great handling and chassis dynamics. It's a well balanced sport sedan that can trick my wife into thinking I'm buying a practical family car!
