View Full Version : What to get?
sgrenesis 10-03-2004, 07:05 AM Give me your opinion what accessories you would get if you had about $2000, other than rims.
Also can someone recommend a place thats cheap and good that sells tires.
Genesis 10-03-2004, 07:25 AM Hi sgren. Well, since you ask, and I'm not going to be racing my 8 or plan to do laps, and other than rims, I guess the v-cool tint, upgraded speakers (tho I dunno how many watts the stock amp pushes...may have to spend on that too), auto-exe shift knob, grills to protect the oil coolers in front, rotary crests front and back, a quality carnauba wax kit...won't have much left of the $2k after that lol!
All mainly cosmetic stuff, with some functional stuff, but don't think I'll have a need for most of what Hyper Rev has to offer. Some of you guys are really into the racing kit, and that's great btw, enjoy reading your threads, but I'm sure I'll be happy with the stock performance....for now??
Let us know what you decide to get.
Naughty Boy 10-03-2004, 08:05 AM Hello sgrenesis!
Me suggest u keep u money until the next meet (at least). Then u can see what everyone has, and decide what u want.
U can also consider whether u want performance parts or cosmetic parts. If the latter, do u want interior or exterior parts? Look around for a bargain - many are selling their toys. Me suspect it's because they didn't think through what they got. Me included! Me may even sell me ms wing.
Above all else - it's about what YOU want and what YOU like. Don't be too affected by what others say of your tastes... THAT me is an EXPERT in! :D Good luck & cheers!
sgrenesis 10-03-2004, 10:25 AM YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST! THANKS FOR THE ADVICE!
Actually the reason i ask is because of the sudden drop in COE (not a very appropriate time i would say) and my PI said would reimburse a certain percentage if there was a drop. will try to ask my PI if there is a dateline to decide. if there isnt, then will try to make it for the next meet.
besides when is the next meet?
NAUGHTY is your spoiler mazdaspeed or OEM?
Genesis 10-03-2004, 10:44 AM Did you guys see the short thread on RX-8 Discussion about the guy who asked when the Mazda RX-9 would be available else he'd hold off on buying the 8? It was priceless...major flames....too bad it was pulled :D
sgren, yes, COE prices have dropped, many older cars expiring right now so there's an increase in quotas, especially on less than 1.6 l cars. Never been a better time or order your 8 :)
sgrenesis 10-03-2004, 10:11 PM sgren, yes, COE prices have dropped, many older cars expiring right now so there's an increase in quotas, especially on less than 1.6 l cars. Never been a better time or order your 8 :)
Sad thing is i have already booked mine and today is exactly 2 weeks of waiting.
Its going to be 'many a week' before my car reaches here. "SIGH"..... in the meantime have to settle with 'autoart' and 'takara' :(
Manwe 10-04-2004, 12:54 AM dun worry...i have waited for an incredible 4 months and the car is not in yet. Stupid mm....
sqflyer 10-04-2004, 03:04 AM Manwe, think I better continue the paint sealant discussion here. More appropriate thread. Anyway, Glare has a pretty good offer now, so I'm thinking of going for it. I read that it's better to do your own washing before sending for the treatment. I guess it doesn't hurt to be there to supervise them when they wash your car again and apply the treatment. Basically, I wanna get it done so that I can just do a quick "splash and clean" each weekend. My weekend time is precious lah... So far I've only heard good things about Glare, anyone has any bad experience or bad comments about Glare??
As for the window tinting, are you still interested in the Huper offer? Still waiting for Genesis to confirm if we can get the V-Kool for the same price. So Genesis, how? Dunno watoke and sgrenesis interested or not oso...
watoke 10-04-2004, 03:33 AM I am still waiting for my ride to "appear" heehee ... and I also considering "Glare"
Currently, I am with ToughSeal on my current ride. Product wise, I think is good and I think "glare" wouldn't be that bad too. Coz they uses the same concept. ToughSeal is a good product, but sad to say, the management of the "company" sucks.
1. They have little staff to actual handle the customers daily. Coz after 1 time grooming, everytime you go and wash is $10. But you got to wait at least 1-2 hrs for it.
2. They dun use those tester like GLARE do, to test the "shine" of the car after a while.
3. When there are too many people washing, then you can expect lousy wash up.
4. The turnover of the staff are damn high. (so, can imagine what kind of "management" they have, you go and think and imagine)
I do not know anyone here has done with ToughSeal and face such problems?
sqflyer 10-04-2004, 06:30 AM No worries, Manwe is also waiting. I'm just trying to gather enough people so we can get Huper at a discounted price. Are you interested to join us for the Huper group tinting?
Glare has an unbeatable offer until the end of this month, so see if you can get your ride in time. If not, I'll try to see if I can ask them to extend the offer for you guys. Unless I hear anything bad about Glare, I'm probably going to get it done. How much does the ToughSeal treatment cost anyway? Do you guys find that paint sealant treatments help to keep dirt off or make car washing any easier?
Genesis 10-04-2004, 08:31 AM Still waiting for Genesis to confirm if we can get the V-Kool for the same price. So Genesis, how?
Sorry flyer, forgot to post back. My colleague told me to wait until I actually have the car, he will make contact then. That might be some time away as like sgren, just ordered a few weeks ago. In the meanwhile, if you have others to participate then might as well get your Huper cause I dunno when I can join you.
Manwe...four months? I'd go nuts if have to wait four months. What's the reason u haven't you got yours yet???? I was told Nov delivery for my winning blue, now it sounds like Dec or worse :(
Watoke, when did you order your ride? Damn, beginning to think that my SE was yanking my chain when said Nov delivery....all in an effort to simply sell
sgrenesis 10-04-2004, 09:18 AM dun worry...i have waited for an incredible 4 months and the car is not in yet. Stupid mm....
I have absolutely no idea why it would take so long but at the present moment the only thing that comes to my mind is unless you bid for a very low COE, if not IMO they took you for a ride.
even with the hurricane excuse it shouldnt take so long.....4 months! they gotta have an incredible/unbelievable excuse like "aliens destroy factory, stole plans and abducted employees" :D
just kidding. try to lighten the mood, hope i didnt rub you the wrong way but if my agent ever told me that then my reply would be- "Mr. agent do you know my favourite chinese word, its 'sue'" ;)
The latest that mine will arrive is end november but praying and crossing my fingers/toes that will arrive much earlier and it had better not be later.
sgrenesis 10-04-2004, 09:26 AM actually my friend told me that you could pay a company a certain amount and they will give you something like 2 cleans a months or how many a year. is that good?
also can someone comment on the cleaners at petrol stations that wash soap and wipe.
Genesis 10-04-2004, 09:28 AM Manwe...like sgren said, did you hold out for a lower COE bid is the reason for your delay? Hey, I didn't bother, told the SE to bid pronto and get my car asap.
Genesis 10-04-2004, 09:33 AM also can someone comment on the cleaners at petrol stations that wash soap and wipe.
Dude! Don't do that unless you're really hard pressed to clean your 8! There's nothing that can replace TLC by the owner :) The gas station guys rub and scrub!
sqflyer 10-04-2004, 09:35 AM Dude! Don't do that unless you're really hard pressed to clean your 8! There's nothing that can replace TLC by the owner :) The gas station guys rub and scrub!
Ha ha.. Gen, that's my biggest problem. I don't trust others to wash my car and I don't trust myself to wash it often enough. Damn catch 22 situation! Thus my "need" for paint sealant... :o
sgrenesis 10-04-2004, 09:36 AM what bout those companies that offer package clean.
watoke 10-04-2004, 10:04 AM No worries, Manwe is also waiting. I'm just trying to gather enough people so we can get Huper at a discounted price. Are you interested to join us for the Huper group tinting?
I am interested and definitely getting the tinting ... coz the SE promised me the V-Kool, so I still waiting for him to confirm, tho he has written on the Sales Agreement.
If the deal for the V-Kool with the SE falls out, I will go for Huper
Glare has an unbeatable offer until the end of this month, so see if you can get your ride in time. If not, I'll try to see if I can ask them to extend the offer for you guys. Unless I hear anything bad about Glare, I'm probably going to get it done. How much does the ToughSeal treatment cost anyway? Do you guys find that paint sealant treatments help to keep dirt off or make car washing any easier?
ToughSeal Treatment cost one time of $350.00, 3-6 months another $60, and 6 months later $60 (the last 2 treatment is up to you whether you want to get it done)
Yes, the Paint Sealant Treatments is better than WAXING that's for sure. I had my car for about 3 weeks didn't wash, the moment I wash it with just water, it still shine as new. It is good and I know the Glare thing works pretty similar to the TS.
So, does Glare has short of STAFF problems? If they do have ... then it will be just as bad as TS ...
ANyway, when you go back to TS for wash, you pay $10, they will use the wash guard and wipe it thru, and of coz vaccum. BUt they dun cleam up interior nor they will do the leather.
I wonder what GLARE package comes with. I might be droping by one the days to check it out on GLARE.
Anyone got any Feedback?
watoke 10-04-2004, 10:08 AM Watoke, when did you order your ride? Damn, beginning to think that my SE was yanking my chain when said Nov delivery....all in an effort to simply sell
I make the deposit early September (Think first week or so) and was promised to get the CAR mid of Oct.
Now, the SE cant even confirm the date and say will inform me once the CAR arrived. It might be early Nov, if not untill MotorShow 2004, think our ride still in JAPAN :) heehee
I already tired of asking the SE, always excuses, not definite answer.
Well, Manwe can wait for 4 months, think we shd learn from him .... relax and wait wait wait and wait ........
watoke 10-04-2004, 10:13 AM also can someone comment on the cleaners at petrol stations that wash soap and wipe.
Sgrenesis,
I use to go to those "Petrol" ..hand wash thing, erks, they create nice SWIRL on your body :) like the hurricane that swipe thru Tokyo? heehee ...joking ...
Think pay money and get the pro do it. You have already spend 100K+ buying the car, what's is with 300-400 more to get the pro do it. ANyway, is one time and going back to wash up is around 10-15 bucks (I think so), that's abt the same with the PETROL Hand Wash, done by the "BANGALAH" :)
YOu will feel proud when it is SHINNING and SPARKLING :) agreed?
sqflyer 10-04-2004, 10:13 AM I'm pretty sure I'm going for the Glare treatment coz it's only $244+gst now with 18 month warranty and 3 wash and maintenance every 6 months. All the washes are free and maintenance is to check with the gloss meter thingie and if shine is below 90%, they will reapply the Glare treatment FOC under warranty. Almost makes me want to totally not wash my car throughout the 18 months just to get another free treatment... ha hah ha. I'm JK of coz. Anyway, last I heard, service at Glare is quite decent. Not sure if it has changed since then. That's why I was asking for comments. Thanks for the info on the TS, watoke.
5 steps to beautiful shine
1. U wash the car yourself.
2. U Apply the polish yourself but no need to buff until shine.
3. Go to Petrol kiosh and let them polish for u (new polishing technique call polishing with water)
4. Next day u apply the wax evenly after washing but no need to buff until shine.
5. Drive to Petrol Kiosk and let them buff for u (new technique call water buffing).
Car will look fantastic and u wont get any scratch/swirl marks becos the paint is protected by ur polish/wax!! Hehehehe
sgrenesis 10-04-2004, 10:47 AM let me get this straight. so after applying the coating thingy you can just apply water to wash and it doesnt matter even if you wash everyday by yourself it wont affect the paint and coat and during this 6 months you are entitled to 3 free washes but if want additional then have to fork out. on top of that have to pay every 6 months like a subscription.
Am abit worried cause mine's mica white...
Manwe 10-04-2004, 10:54 AM Manwe...like sgren said, did you hold out for a lower COE bid is the reason for your delay? Hey, I didn't bother, told the SE to bid pronto and get my car asap.
Nope... I had my coe bidded in june...28k plus....from mm....why should i care about the coe?
All I did was change the leather seat to 2-tone red-black....&^#^%&^%#!!!
sgrenesis 10-04-2004, 11:00 AM Nope... I had my coe bidded in june...28k plus....from mm....why should i care about the coe?

even with the leather i would give it max extra 2 weeks not 2 months. from what i heard from a PI is that mazda J will not entertain these requests unless its done outside. (like after production-outsource)
I also requested my PI to have my seats factory fitted but they say not possible.
Manwe 10-04-2004, 11:08 AM 2 tone leather is an available option for all countries except singapore.... damn dumb. I told them that i wanted the 2 tone red-black but was told they only offer the brown and it doesn't match my red. Then the se said his boss managed to get mazda japan to make special indent. That would take extra 1 mth. So i had been waiting....waiting....

Manwe, two tone red-black seats, not even offered to me, you must have ordered red car from MM, but they said only all black leather interior available in Nov with red...any changes would cost an extra $2k....lol
Manwe 10-04-2004, 11:21 AM Manwe, two tone red-black seats, not even offered to me, you must have ordered red car from MM, but they said only all black leather interior available in Nov with red...any changes would cost an extra $2k....lol
Yea....ordered a red from them. No extra cost. But the booking fee is a whopping 21k. Ouched! The money could have earned extra couple k in some trust funds of premium currencies by banks instead of sitting in mm's bank acc....
Genesis 10-04-2004, 11:27 AM Damn...what the hell is that? My booking fee was fixed, and a lot lower, PM me dude.
sqflyer 10-04-2004, 11:28 AM let me get this straight. so after applying the coating thingy you can just apply water to wash and it doesnt matter even if you wash everyday by yourself it wont affect the paint and coat and during this 6 months you are entitled to 3 free washes but if want additional then have to fork out. on top of that have to pay every 6 months like a subscription.
My apologies for confusing the matter. After the Glare treatment, you get 18 months of warranty. Every 6 months, you can bring it in for a free wash and a gloss check. So that's 3 washes and gloss maintenance check in total, one every 6 months during the whole 18 month period. If it fails the gloss check (below 90% of the original gloss reading after the treatment), you are entitled to another application of the Glare treatment for free under warranty. I guess if it works pretty much like TS, then you should be able to do quick washes yourself with relative ease (at least that's what I'm hoping it'll do for my car). No subscription thingie.
Genesis 10-04-2004, 11:41 AM If it fails the gloss check (below 90% of the original gloss reading after the treatment), you are entitled to another application of the Glare treatment for free under warranty.
Flyer...the gloss check?...how is the 90% quantified? 10% paint removal?
sqflyer 10-04-2004, 12:56 PM Flyer...the gloss check?...how is the 90% quantified? 10% paint removal?
 I must admit that I'm pretty ignorant about all these stuff and just simply buying into their marketing propaganda. Actually, I'm pretty sure the product is good enough not to have to claim their warranty else they'll go broke giving out reapplications. I'll buy any product that helps me cut down the washing time and still protect the paintwork enough to maintain a decent shine.
As for the gloss check, they have a gloss measuring equipment to "quantify" the shine on the car after the Glare treatment and then your car is warrantied for 18 months not to lose more than 10% of its shine. I'm not advocating that Glare is the best thing since sliced bread, but the offer is attractive and it meets my needs. I've only heard good things about it so far and that's why I'm asking for feedback from those who have done it. Hoping to hear some bad comments (if any) so I can see both sides of the coin. ;)
watoke 10-04-2004, 06:16 PM sqflyer,
Do "Glare" provide washing and wiping & cleaning up the interior for a certain cost, just like TS? After 1st coating, everytime you go back, they wash, vaccum and apply the WASH Guard over the body again for just a small cost of $10. (This saves me so much time of washing and waxing and cleaing on my own) :p
Does "Glare" provide such a service?
TS dun have equipment to check the "shine". :o
Anyone got any comments to this?
sqflyer 10-04-2004, 07:01 PM As far as what the Glare people told me, the 3 free maintenance sessions include "FULL interior and exterior grooming" and your car's shine is checked again. I guess it can be subjective what the grooming includes, but I guess it can't really be considered "grooming" if they don't vacuum the interior and wash the exterior. Not too sure about the wash guard thing or it's equivalent though.
Apparently nobody else uses the gloss measuring equipment, claiming it's just a gimmick. However, these are also the people who say that after their treatment, they can "see" and "feel" the difference, which I think is also "just a gimmick". If they are comparing against a car that has not gone through any treatment, even a blind bat can see and feel the difference lah. But I don't think its's that distinguishable if compared to a different treatment. At least I don't think I can tell the difference, so I need to be humoured with a gimmicky equipment. :p No lah, actually that's why we're asking for feedback but nobody respond leh... dunno whether they not commenting or they got nothing bad to say.
Manwe 10-04-2004, 10:40 PM i got friends who would say toughseal is much better than glare.... and the ppl from toyota club had many switching over to toughseal from glare.... need ppl who had tried both to comment....

Manwe,
Well, I must say yes, TS is good, but it is better with Glare I wouldn't know. But one for sure is that they are always short for staff doing the $10 washing and the Wash Guard. When the place it packed, you expect a half done kind of washing.
Again, unless someone has done with both and can comments on it, if not ...is very difficult.
My 2 cents
Manwe 10-04-2004, 11:51 PM What if Glare is worse? Having understaff ppl....then it is back to square one. Any Glare user around to comment?
watoke 10-05-2004, 02:01 AM What if Glare is worse? Having understaff ppl....then it is back to square one. Any Glare user around to comment?
Hmm..anyone had any bad experience with "GLARE" ?
For TS, I am very sure, product "GOOD", service "SUCKS" (due to shortage of staff)
Anyone one wants to comment?
sqflyer 10-05-2004, 07:27 AM Neon used Glare and he's pretty happy with it. He oso said the people at Jln Tua Kong and Paya Ubi are quite friendly. Actually, the offer is main reason why I'm going for Glare. If not for the 50% discount on Glare (usual price $488), I would rather go for the PPS Teflon treatment at $388.
