View Full Version : RX-8 Owners: 5-60 MPH statistics DSC ON and DSC OFF
Shamblerock 10-02-2004, 01:18 PM Without having to strip your cars from a dead stop, please provide times of what your RX-8 does from a rolling start 5MPH to 60 MPH with DSC ON and DSC OFF.
My numbers are as follows:
DSC ON: 8.30 Seconds
DSC OFF (Totally): 7.33 Seconds
how long have you had your 8...ive seen better #s on the 5-60
how long have you had your 8...ive seen better #s on the 5-60
Where? Most of the car mags came up with times a little slower than that, I believe 7.5 was common and those were cars from before the ECU was retuned.
By the way Shamble, how are you measuring this?
Mugatu 10-02-2004, 05:13 PM ONE one thousand, TWO one thousand, THREE one thousand.....

Ahhh ok, so scientific like... :p
ayap888 10-02-2004, 06:09 PM 6 - 58 MPH on my automatic .... 7.0 seconds.

Please tell me you're joking...
Shamblerock 10-02-2004, 06:19 PM Basically used a stop watch. No other way really. Is it dead accurate? Probably not, but I think it was pretty accurate and close enough. Tried 0-60 with a clutch drop @ 8,000, and it felt a hell of a lot faster but didn't get a reading, unfortunately, as I was too preoccuied with the rear axle hop I got from the fish tail.
Probably won't try that again because of the rear axle hop wasn't very comfortable. That's why I was interested in the 5-60 so you don't have to worry about ruining tires/axles.

HEY ahole ... i can beat you in a sec .. bug off turd.

 So you were serious with your 6-58 times??? <falls over laughing> For a second I thought you were being witty and sarcastic, but now that it's clear you're serious it's even more funny. So... how many seconds does it take for you to get from 23 to 47? I'm going to go for a drive now and time myself, you do the same and we can compare times when I get back!
P.S. There are Corollas out there that will give the AT RX-8 problems, I would suggest you stick to those if you want to talk about beating anyone.
Shamblerock 10-02-2004, 07:12 PM Ike, relax man. Maybe he's true. He's not that far off. Remember he has a digital speedometer so he can see exactly 6-58 if that's the time when he pressed his stop watch. No biggie.
As for the Corolla comment, if anything looks like a corolla, its the WRX. Is your WRX pink?
So we're talking about looks and 6-58 times in the comepetition racing section now... 5-60 is bad enough, but shouldn't this section be for actual competition type things? Autox, drag racing, track days, things of that nature. I know this was in general so I'm not blaming you for that one Shamble. As for Ayap, had you seen his assanine post on the ATs 0-60 times you would understand how silly his post was. I can just see him out there every day with his little stopwatch trying to prove to the world that his RX-8 isn't slow.
GeorgeH 10-03-2004, 12:05 AM As for Ayap, had you seen his assanine post...
Maybe, but every post you make is assanine. Seems every time you post it's with the intent of showing the world that the RX-8 isn't fast.
Get a life.
shelleys_man_06 10-03-2004, 12:54 AM Anyway, can't you use a G-Tech to get a little bit more accurate measurement? The real world sucks doesn't it?
JeRKy 8 Owner 10-03-2004, 12:56 AM 6 - 58 MPH on my automatic .... 7.0 seconds.

Ok so should I throw you in the group with Ayap, or the group of people that actually make sense on this forum and just love cars? News flash: the RX-8 isn't all that fast, but it's still a pretty freaking nice car. So which would you like to be, a fanboi that makes the RX-8 into something it isn't or a person that recognizes that the RX-8 lacks in certain areas but makes up for it in other areas?
Kart Racer 10-03-2004, 10:57 AM I've got a G-tech pro, sitting in my room here. Maybe next T.O meet, we can check the difference between the DSC on/off.........on another note, i made a G35 look like a fool on the on ramp this morning....
RotorWheeee 10-03-2004, 11:58 AM Don't you just wish those ramps went on f...o...r....e...v....e...r....................... .........:)

Kart Racer 10-03-2004, 04:46 PM yeah, on ramps are amazing in the car. Just an FYI for next season, im probably gonna be getting a track day together at shannonville, it would be great to see some RX-8's out there!!!!
Shamblerock 10-03-2004, 09:01 PM Kart Racer, that's interesting and I would be interested in going. Since I have never been, I have a few questions:
Is it just a quarter mile track or do you drive an actual track like 1.5 miles or so?
Do you need a helmet to participate?
How much does it cost to enter?
Will you get upset if I hand you your a_s at every event? (just kidding)
Kart Racer 10-03-2004, 10:36 PM i've done both. Neither in the 8 yet though. I dont plan on going back to the drag strip....not really that much fun if you ask me. The track is a full circuit type, i dont have a ton of experience in a road car, but lots in go-karts, and quite a bit in formula cars. As far as cost, if lots of people turn out, we could rent the track for a day for maybe $75 per person. Usually no helmet is needed...but some places its required. It all depends on turnout i guess. and lastly I never get upset....... i get even!! hahaha
RotorWheeee 10-04-2004, 07:35 AM This sound like something that would be great to try .
I'd be interested

Shamblerock 10-04-2004, 12:19 PM Kart racer, you know dam well I'm shaking in my boots if I have to go head to head on a circuit with you! You'd probably beat me by a whole minute! Never did this kind of thing before but sounds like a great idea. The $75 is well worth the experience. But seriously, is it too late for this year to schedule something? I can probably get 1 or 2 other guys (non-rx8) to come out with their cars as well. Is you schedule too tight?
Kart Racer 10-04-2004, 12:45 PM yeah, mine at least is pretty tight with exams and things. I will look into shannonville in the next few days, i have been out there as late as Nov. 9th so we may have time. I will get back to everyone from the TO club.
veilsidev1 10-06-2004, 11:00 PM ok, bottom line,
-is it faster with dsc off or on.
-do you get to 60 faster starting from 0 or like from 1mph???
-do you guys reach 60 in what gear??
thanks
TiTaniumRX8 10-07-2004, 12:35 AM DSC OFF!!!!! hold it for 5 sec untill you see the "yellow car thing" in middle...
LAUNCH YO CAR ANYWHERE FROM 5.5-7.5 (personally i like the 7k launch)
I hit 64 in second gear (but i also hear a little "beep"... wonder why lol)
but my car is not stock, if i can recall 59-60 was a redline in 2nd gear
epitrochoid 10-07-2004, 01:31 PM i can hit 64 in 2nd all day long, im bone stock
the 5-60 depends on how you start. when i engage in friendly 5-60 speed tests against another car ON A TRACK i roll from 5 and hold the revs at 6 and feather the clutch, just like launching from a dig.
Shamblerock 10-07-2004, 06:23 PM Epitrochoid, How many seconds does the the feathering procedure take until its fully engaged? What kind of times are you getting?
epitrochoid 10-08-2004, 11:51 AM just a tad shorter than it would take you doing a launch from a stop. it's a bit awkward to get used to, and you have to watch for wheelspin...i have yet to time it though, but it's right under what the 0-60 is so I'd guess about 5 seconds
Hybrid-RX8 10-08-2004, 02:28 PM Quarter is boring to be honest for you guys who've never been to the track before. It's fun just to see what you can pull off. But the true challenge of skill is the circuit track.
Shamblerock 10-13-2004, 10:06 PM IkeWRX, I thought this version of the wrx would appeal to you!
Still trying to decide what I think... That grill was taken from the B11S concept which is another car I'm still not sure about, regardless I'll always love the bugeyes! :D
