First cold morning with my RX-8, so I go out early to warm it up and defrost the windows. I get the car started, reach for the heat knob, and as I turn it falls of into my hand. Shocked, I look inside the knob and find a plastic piece had broken off. As you can imagine I was pissed, I just got this car two weeks ago. I will be taking it to the dealership tomorrow, and hopefully they will give me one off a car sitting on the lot. In any case, I find the construction of this knob a little disturbing, you would think for 30,000+ dollars they would spend a little more on a device that will be used thousands of times.

Just a heads up go, easy on these knobs they are not made from the highest quality materials.

There's a Technical Service Bulletin (http://www.finishlineperformance.com/rx8/docs/07-003.html) on this, it's nothing to get upset about. They'll replace it with a reinforced knob under warranty. This has happened to lots of folks, do a search on "broken knob" and you'll see.

Mine broke too a month ago. I had it in at Mazda to get a new one and they had none in stock...and the knob FINALLY came in yesterday.
