last week. I just love the slightly blue accent of the JDM xenon. Its beam is extremely powerful and I couldn't be happier. It has a stronger beam that the stock Xenon I believe.
Everytime I turn my light on, all the cars in front of me changes lane for some reason...

be carefull..i know a few people that have aftermarket HID kits that have blown there bulbs.those things aren't cheap

 

No the high beam are not on (although could be on in conjunction with my HIDs, which makes it even brighter, more depth).

I'll try to post better pics of how bright it can light up objects next time I have a chance.

 

Couple of questions, I don't know much about HID and bulbs in general --

1) Can we just swap out the bulbs w/ the OEM kit on the rx8? Or do we have to replace the entire unit?

2) There is a smaller, inner bulb that emits a very yellowish light, does anyone have information on that bulb, like what type of bulb it is?

I thought aftermarket HIDs had been banned in the US....or is this because you're just replacing the bulb in an OEM HID application?

They are attempting to have them banned because people are putting them in the wrong type of projectors. They are putting them in halogen projectors, which arn't cut to work properly with HID light output.

So, Sky88, if your car wasn't originally equiped with HID, then most likely people are changing lanes because the Halogen Projector isn't working properly with the HID kit you have purchased.

Alex:

1) If you don't originally have HID, I wouldn't suggest doing this. If your car is equiped with HID, then you can look for new D2S capsules with a Higher K, if that is the look you want.

2) It sounds like you are describing a City Light, your manual probably tells you what type of bulb the City Light is.

As far as I'm concern everything seems quite fine and leveled. This was a whole setup with balasts, wires and all. I'm suspecting that people are changing lanes because of the light intensity... which also happens to me at times with newer car with similar Xenon.

 

I just want to let you know that you will be loosing light out put by doing this. 5000K-6000K is the closest to white and the brightest. The higher in "Ks" you go from there, the darker the color and the less light out put you will have. 8000K is blueish and not as bright as 6000K, 10000K is purpleish and not as bright as 8000K. So take note of this when buying new D2S capsules.

I did not see a clear cut answer to whether or not your car was originally HALOGEN or ZENON. If not, like others said, you are blinding people. You have no cut off for your beam, and it seriously flash blinds people. Police will CHECK UP on your lights if you cause someone to get into an accident or even if they get flashblinded. I also would like to see a picture of your lights reflecting off of your garage or close to a white building.

On another note, I hope you like your lights.

 

Good advice sean ... I think if that's the case, I'll probably settle for 8k's .. I've seen 8k's on a friend's BMW (ugraded to those from 6k) and its okay for lighting. But he also has the DDE (angel eye kit on them too) which pump out another set of 8k brightness around the original HID lens.

I was planning on doing the same if the angel eye kit was made for the rx8 ... so outter ring was 8k and the inner primary low-beam was set to 10k .. but didn't know 10k wouldn't product that much light.

I originally had the halogen. That being said I see plenty of new car model with as bright or even brighter beam, why would someone check up on these particular lights? When I purchased the kits I assumed that everything was in order to make the proper transition to the Xenon. How does projectors involded in this case? if you don't mind explaining and suggest fix if it is indeed what you say it is.
And as far as people switching lane well I was merely making a sarcartic remark... I have no real confirmation that these HIDs actually is blinding others.
I always understood that 5k-6k was indeed the brighter light beam as compared to 8k.

 

I heard that Xenon lights were Illegal to install after the factory. I heard you get a huge fine for it. But i dunno it may be wrong or it might be just CA..?

 

The explanation for all of this is because the Halogen Projectors lens' is cut to help the aiming and maintaing of Halogen light output. Since HID light output is completely different than halogen light output, the Halogen Projectors don't work properly with it.

A halogen bulb ("9000" series or "H" series in the Halogen RX-8's case a H7 bulb) uses a filament like to produce the light, kind of like a house hold light bulb. HID capsules (D2S (mainly) or D2R) use an arc of electricity with the Xenon gas to produce the light, which is like a glowing sphere of light, this is similar to lightening or the flash of welding.

Since the light output is different, then the lens' are cut different to accompany the correct light output. The following isn't a very good analogy but it will work,

halogen projector : HID projector :: gasoline engine : diesel engine

I have no idea what you can do to fix your problem, but I would just go out at to a dark spot one night and have your car parked with the lights on and walk a distance, move to the side, as if you were in the on coming traffic lane, and squat to about eyelevel when driving a car. See if it hurts your eyes, if so, then thats what is happening to everyone you pass when driving, if not, then I guess keep it in there.
