When I switch on the xenon headlights, the daytime running lights are also on. Is this correct or should the daytime running lights turn off when I have the xenon lights on?

The daytime running lights do turn off when you turn on the headlights. However, there is another bulb there that stays on, and I think that's what you're mistaking for the DRLs - it's part of the park lights! The DRL is the high-beam bulbs on reduced intensity. That reduced intensity high beam does go off when you turn on the headlights.

Canadian law since 1990 - all vehicles here are required to have DRLs.

When I turn on the night lights, the side markers go on as well, I assume this is normal.
