...or could be a radiator. THe MS RX-8 didnt' have much in the way of engine enhancement...just some kind of trick exhaust system (to which they made no official gain in hp).

that is def. not a radiator...i'v seen the stock one and thats not how it looks...and if this is an upgraded radiator then it would make no sense...

again, no official word, and the MS RX-8 concept had nothing in the way of engine modification... and if you read up on the debate, i really hope that they didn't go supercharger (for all the reasons i repeadedly post)... and turbo, well, unnecessary... porting'd be cool though ;) *brap brap brap brap*

well i talked to the guy at the NYC auto show about the rx8 and upcoming project of rx7; he said...the rx8 is our main focus for now till 2006 and mazda has pumped 350HP from the renesis back in japan..he did not tell me how they did it...just said the new engine will also appear in the rx7...

Wow 350hp? If you look at the picture it sort of looks like a intercooler , there looks to be pipings on the side of it.

hmmm, It could be the radiator.......

take into account that the original RX-8 design has the rad sitting pretty low and close to the ground.

Maybe with the MS Body kit, you just see more of it ??

The signs DO seem to point to an intercooler.....
.
I noticed the stock has a lot of frontal area that is not needed for the rad, and there seems to be lots of room between the rad and the actual front of the block...........
.
for whatever 'accessories' you may need to fit there.....
.
hhmmm...
Ray.

I vote for a SC, definitely a more elegant solution.

just to give a completely different opinion, maybe it's just a backing for a full size license plate. looks about the rights size. The one they got on it wouldn't be big enough to be legal, least not here in Australia.

That was my thought when I saw it too. There are several images of the car at shows with a black plastic licence plate strip exactly that size and this looks the same. Sorry guys.

Sorry,

I just got back from Rev-it-up. That "intercooler" pictured looks a lot like the radiator once the front grill is removed.

look at these pics of a stock RX-8 and judge for yourself.

Consider the placement and the size of the radiator shown..

"Super Street" magazine, May 2003, pg. 216..."Is there a turbo version? Not that we know of. We asked several times during the course of this launch, although the head engine designer told us that the RENISIS is completely capable of withstanding some forced induction. But before you go off and buy a turbo upgrade for a 13B-REW, we're obliged to warn you that it won't fit since the side exhaust ports require a completely redesigned exhaust manifold. In fact, the new model is limited in space, which makes it difficult to add a turbo. This is very sad news indeed.":( :( :(

i thought such talks have circulated around this forum forever...and the counter arguments have, too

rest assured that someone out there WILL turbo- or supercharge this baby...be it aftermarket (ie HKS) or mazdaspeed. it's just a matter of time and who does it first...

and remember that the renesis engineers THEMSELVES said the motor was built to take boost. what else could they have said beyond that?

so i for one am remaining optimistic about boost :D
