what up guys, I am helping my friend find a used 8. We found this car that seems like this is the one, bu we do not know if is is m-flashe and he doesen't either. How can we check if it is, with the vin# ?. And if it isin't who can we take it to get it m-flashed, how much does it cost?. And finally, i see you guys say that to prevent flooding warm up the car before shutting it off, how much is a while in warm and cold temps?. Thanks for all your help guys.

There are ways to tell if it is a later version, but the best way to do it is to take it to a Mazda dealership and ask. I'm not sure what they do about warranty on a used car, or if the ECU is an unconditional warranty. At worst, complain about flooding or rough idle, and they should upgrade the ECU because of a recall.

If you have the newest flash, this shouldn't be an issue. However, the smartass answer is "the correct length of time to let a car warm up in warmer or colder temp to prevent flooding is long enough that it prevents flooding." I've NEVER had my car flood, so I have no real answer. But I couldn't resist that.

A search might give you an answer. The owners manual will tell you want to do if you flood it.

You should not have any problems with the warranty. Take it in and ask. If it doesn't have M - they will (or should) do the flash - warranty or not - its a TSB that Mazda put out for ALL RX-8s.

If the cars VIN falls within a certain range and it has the M flash, it should have an "Authorized Modification Label" placed on the inside of the hood.
