View Full Version : SouthBay RX-8 Club Meet Saturday 18, 2p.m. Great Mall, Milpitas
Sideswipe2674 09-10-2004, 05:37 PM The Next South Bay RX-8 Meet will be on Saturday September 18th!
I'm so glad that we are close to out of summer...it was really hot. Anyhow, lets bring our shiny toys to the next meet. I know alot of people have purchased, so if you're a newbie this is going to be fun to see a slew of cars. We meet at the top of the Great Mall Parking structure at 2 p.m.
We are going to take a little cruise over to AppleBee's for lunch and drinks, so this will be our first mini cruise together. Maybe even figure out a neat event...taking suggestions.
A few rules, and we know that all of us drive carefully...don't throttle the car coming into the garage..I know I love the sound but we don't want to attract any attention having fun with our fellow RX-8 members.
If you're new and haven't seen our temporary club link then click here to join up.

Doh... I have to work Sat. the 18th unfortunately... perhaps next time Clarence!
Have fun & DON'T BRING ANY PISTONS to this meet!!! LOL!!!
BTW: is your car functional/fixed now???
Sideswipe 09-12-2004, 10:11 PM Nothing but rotary baby ;) Can i borrow your sound system?
Sideswipe 09-12-2004, 10:15 PM Yeah, the LCAs and Panhard Bar are adjusted, Just threw on a heavy duty girdle cover to strengthen the rear end. I can't wait to get it to the track...I did take the RX-8 back out to the track and did a 15.5 in 103 degree heat launching at a meager 3500 rpm. A 350Z was there and was my race partner. He didn't do any better than i and it was his first time with his new car too. I had some aweful reaction times though...(all driver)
Loaded8 09-13-2004, 02:11 AM I won't be able to make this one, everyone have fun for me!!! :)
Scazda 4 09-13-2004, 05:25 PM I made it to my first meeting last month, but alas....due to the fact that my 8 was introduced to the passenger side of an Audi sedan last Tuesday as they made an illegal left turn....will not make it this month. Maybe next time......
PUR NRG 09-13-2004, 05:45 PM Out of curiosity, how many would be interested in karting at LeMans (fremont) at 11am before the meet?

blksf8 09-13-2004, 07:20 PM I'm in
Moostafa29 09-13-2004, 10:25 PM Damn I saw that accident Scazda 4. I work in the gateway plaza. I was coming around the corner in a rental, and I swear my heart skipped a few beats. It was one of the worst things I've ever seen. Was it you or the other person that needed the ambulance? So sad...so sad... Hope it gets fixed soon!
As far as the meet, I'll have to see.
Scazda 4 09-14-2004, 10:59 AM Thanks for the concern, Moostafa 29. Is that pretty Titanium Grey 8 yours? I work on Chabot Dr. across from the post office. I was the one loaded into the ambulance. I had one day of mourning (I had less than 5000 miles on that car) and am trying to stifle the urge to hunt down the guy that turned in front of me to see if I can assist him with some neck pain :) My car is at the dealership body shop now. The initial estimate is $14000. I must say, though, the car held up well considering how hard the impact was. I only have one bruise and that was from the impact of the airbag. Here is a direct quote from the police report from the other driver "I saw her coming but I turned anyway"
IZoomZoomI 09-14-2004, 03:30 PM ouch sorry about your ride man, I get a door ding and I get real pissed imagine, just imagining how you feel right now :(
as for the meet, well can't make it again, got a dentist appointment. So I guess see you guys @ the next meet.
xxMax Powerxx 09-14-2004, 04:52 PM I would most certainly be down for some Le Mans racing action prior to meeting up.
wokuku 09-14-2004, 07:49 PM I finally have time this sat to attend the meeting. Really looking forward to it =)
Loaded8 09-15-2004, 01:27 AM Scazda,
So sorry about your accident, I hope you're going to be okay. I also hope they get your car fixed soon.... hey didn't you have a teenie tiny little paint chip or ding on the front bumper? If that was you, now it will get fixed!!! Again, I'm really sorry to hear but glad that everyone is alive and doing okay. :)
Scazda 4 09-15-2004, 03:09 PM Thanks for the positive spin. We shall see how she looks when they are done. The body shop has a good reputation.
xxMax Powerxx 09-16-2004, 03:44 PM PUR NRG et.al.
Is there a plan for 11:00am Le Mans?
PUR NRG 09-16-2004, 03:51 PM Just called LeMans. They're booked from 12pm on, so we'd have to be there at 11am sharp in order to get a 11:30 drive time. So yes, it's on and I'll see some of you there. :)

Xyntax 09-19-2004, 02:58 AM haha! That's what I thought too when I came out to check th 8s that showed up. I was thinking to myself "Is that a white RX8?" Nah, it was just a cloudy day...
Around 3 of us were running around the lot doing some tests and someone asked "Are we starting a track here or what?" :D
blksf8 09-19-2004, 06:01 AM yo dean, you gotta clean your car man! we see all your brakedust (unless you have black chrome wheels now)
Zoomy 09-20-2004, 02:18 AM Hey guys, it was a pleasure to meet you Saturday. As you know, I was taking a few videos. What I intend on doing is to slowing collect scenes that I'll eventually put together on a DVD that I'll give to all. If anyone is interested in doing a little "posing" let me know. We'll just add it to the big one. I'll be adding sound bites later. Next month I'll bring all of my gear and we'll put together a real showing!
Good to see such enthusiasm for a fine auto! Yeah, Cameros and Vettes have their place too.
PUR NRG 09-20-2004, 09:45 AM Zoomy, what kind of a/v editing software are you using?
________
Hash (http://trichomes.org/hashish/full-melt-hash)
Zoomy 09-20-2004, 12:02 PM PUR, I'm using Adobe Premiere 1.5, but I cut my teeth on a Pinnacle system. What a world of difference. You into this stuff?
Blue_Chameleon 09-20-2004, 12:13 PM Woo hoo....videophreaks! :D
I'm using Pinnacle Studio 9 for my video stuff....I tried doing Adobe Premiere but the learning curve is WAY too steep...partly because I don't have THAT much time to invest in it yet, so I'm just going with what I know.
So far, I've done weddings, recruitment videos for police departments, and your average small music videos.
Zoomy 09-20-2004, 12:22 PM Blue, yeah, I have to tell you I can't count the number of evenings that turned into 3am while I chased a Premiere problem only to find out that I had inadvertently clicked a button that caused the problem. I went through the same thing when I changed from Paint Shop Pro to Photoshop. Something tells me that in the long run I'll be taking classes for Premiere.
The Pinnacle Studio 9 is a great system. I got the one with the A-D converter box because I had a ton of old High 8 videos that I wanted to work on. I just bought a Sony Video8 player/recorder so now everything I play is automatically digitized. Its great for taping directly from a TV, VCR, or any other video source.
My projects have been weddings, graduations, a funeral (that was a tough one), and most recently a project to help a guy sell his 1957 Chevy hot rod.
PUR NRG 09-20-2004, 12:28 PM I'm using Video Explosion Deluxe. Have Pinnacle Studio but like VED more. Want to get Video Vegas though. I bought a twin 19" monitor system in XP so I could see more of the track layout at one time. That made editing a lot quicker. Started with my honeymoon video and also did a friend's wedding. I think video clips will be the new photo album.

Ipad Cases (http://accesoriesipad.com/)
Zoomy 09-20-2004, 12:33 PM My last project was to turn +100 wedding photos taken at Burning Man last year and turn them into a slide show with audio added. Premiere will allow you to zoom into different parts of a still image, so the show looks a little more alive.
Blue_Chameleon 09-20-2004, 12:38 PM Zoomy: Funeral? Damn....how in the heck did you manage that?? I dunno if I could ever do a job like that. Ugghh...not only that, why in the world would someone want to relive that moment via video? I dun gettit....
scratchjunkie 09-20-2004, 12:46 PM whens the next meet?
Zoomy 09-20-2004, 12:51 PM The gal was 22 and the entire community knew her. Her Grandmother wanted any and everything in the way of memories about her. I knew her as well. Shooting her wasn't half as difficult as it was the rest of the family and friends.
As it turns out, there is a new, thriving business in what is called personal archiving. People now want a video of Uncle Bob before he dies. They interview him on video, have him tell all the old stories, memories, and those things that only a very old family member may remember. Then when they die the funeral and burial are added to finalize the video. There is good money to be made ($2,00 - 4,000) for doing this. Its not seasonal either as weddings and graduations tend to be.
Xyntax 09-20-2004, 01:37 PM yo dean, you gotta clean your car man! we see all your brakedust (unless you have black chrome wheels now)
That dirty huh? Even the pics show it :p
It's that damn Zaino layer I have. It fools me into thinking my car doesn't need any washing. I felt lazy that morning that I just made some runs instead of cleaning my rims (which I usually do before a meet).
whens the next meet?
I dunno, but I'm meeting up w/ the E46 crew at Q-Cup on friday ... around 8ish in Milpitas. I usually stay for a bit and take off from there .. nice crowd.
alex
wokuku 09-20-2004, 09:33 PM It was nice meeting all of you. Sorry I had to leave early. Can't wait for the next meet. I should have some mods in my car by then to dress it up nicely. =)
Loaded8 09-21-2004, 09:01 PM Looks like you guys had a good time, I hope to make it to the next meet. I'll check the calendar and mark it. Hey, I finally got over 22mpg!!! woo hoo !!! it was 100% freeway driving to my friend's house up north. That was pretty cool... now I'm back to 19-ish avg. :D
