Happy car thoughs, all issues of feasibility aside, got anything buzzing around your noggin?
I did on the way home today, my thought was this. . . .
Lotus Elise + Renesis
Am I off my rocker or does that sound fun to anybody else?
Edit: Spelling, gimme a break I'm Comp Sci + Physics, they don't techh uss speling in phyzics. . . .
Edit2: Apparently I wasn't the first person to think of this ( http://lotus.roadfly.org/lotus/forums/elise/forum.php?postid=2996535&page=1 ) But I came at it form the other direction. My direction being that I want a rotary!

Oh my! What an idea. The Renesis must weight less than the K16 although you should remember that the Elise's handling is set up for the weight of the Rover engine and would have to be tweaked for a lighter one. Sounds good though. Now all you have to do is find a scrapped RX-8. ;)

I don't like to think about this, but is likely there will be quite a few wrecks because stupid people can buy rotaries as well. Not to mention all the other idiots on the road that must be contended with.
Stupid people can buy any car, it doesn't take much car to be a menace, just lack of attention. I can not count the number of idiots I come accross on my usual 30 miles of daily driving. Random lane changes without signaling, weaving through traffic, people not checking blind spots. It's a mentality, a mind-set that some people ahve that they are the only "real person" on the road and everything else is just in the way. Seriously, I've talked to people and from what they've said I don't think they consider other drivers to be actual people. It's really quite frightning.
I was not suggesting that one simply do an engine transplant, I was more thinking that it would be need if there were a version designed for it. Hence the "Forsaking feasability issues" bit in the thread title, i.e. nothing that will ever happen. But the fact that the renesis is lighter/smaller/weighs less seems to fit so perfectly with the whole theme of the Elise, it's just a fun thing to think about.

Let's take this one step further = My dream car = Lotus 340R + Renesis
HP to weight ratio of 1 hp : 5.8 lb :D
Btw, anyone see that Top Gear where Tiff does a 360 in it? :p

I read about a firm in California that imports the Lotus Elise and equips it with an Integra Type R drive train. That would be SWEET! But yeah, a Renesis equipped Elise would be awesome.
I know you can buy engines from importers that get them directly from Japan. My dad and I fixed up his old Nissan with one of those. Does it not stand to reason that eventually we will be able to do the same with the Renesis?
