Which is better for the clutch when taking off in a drag race dropping it or letting it off slowly? Which is better with achieving an advantage in the race dropping or letting it slowly? Which do you do, in race conditions off the line of course?

slipping the clutch before you hit green is obviously the only way to launch to get the best time.

 ouch that would kill the clutch... not going to argue with the method tho.

dropping the clutch wont hurt the clutch, its better for it then slipping it is. repeatedly doing it WILL however completely destroy everything behind the clutch. transmission, driveshaft, rear end, axles. those aren't designed to wear out like a clutch is and are much more expensive to repair. if you drop the clutch you wont get a decent launch anyway.

I smell clutch just reading this, but really, the only way to prevent wheel hop is to let it slip, a clutch is cheaper to replace than tranny, dif, axle, etc.

so, its better to drop it, isn't it? I mean, you might lose some time spinning the wheels, but the damage will be smaller, right.
