I hate having a strange person sitting in my car and much more so if he/she's gonna drive it. I don't think I'll ever surrender my RX-8 to a valet kid. What do you think?

Make sure you note the mileage when you hand it over. :)

Don't go anywhere that forces you to valet, and if they do, insist that they let you park it on your own, and don't leave the keys with them.

I have avoided valets like the plague on many occasions--hotel stays, busy restaurants, Christmas time at the Macys parking garage.

Once, at a wedding, we had to park in a large lot then surrender the keys upon parking in case the valets had to do any "rearranging" of the vehicles. My girlfriend and I ended up having to sneak Metal-Gear-style past all the valets. Silly, but great fun! (^_^)

I avoid them at all costs. I was at a wedding and saw a valet driver take a Modena down the street like 80mph. Man if that was my car I would have beat the piss out of the guy.

Valet service is for non-car guys who relish the snob appeal and convenience to impress the ladies, or are just too damn lazy to walk. It's like a country-club perk and more power to 'em. Just respect my decision to self-park away from a 65 Nova rust-bucket door-dinger or I'm going elsewhere. You just won't get my keys so don't ask. I cringe enough when I let a smog technician pull the car around onto the rollers.
"I said NO BOOSTING, dammit!"

Another good movie example of why you should avoid valets: Ferris Buler's Day Off.:)

Ever live in Los Angeles? It is inevitable... you will eventually valet here.

Ever live in Los Angeles? It is inevitable... you will eventually valet here. Only if you want to patronize such an establishment(you know, micro-size portions, big prices, glitz and ritz and go home hungry for a pizza). Blonde 38DD's don't care about cars anyway if you're trying to impress. They want to see the bloated back-pocket wallet. :) I ain't gonna walk out after a miniscule 2 oz. Filet Mignon or Prime Rib Sautee'd with 'shrooms to find my baby hood-steaming or dinged. How many of you will valet your 8 the first year you have it? Anyone....? Bueller...?

I'd take a Pepperoni and a Stein of Bud in a parking lot shooting the s**t with car-buds over that stuffed-shirt nonsense.

Whoah, did I overextend my 2 cents just now? :D LOL!

All I got to say about valet parking is my friend has to do it sometimes when our school's president has gatherings. He doesn't know how to drive a manual. He told me stories where he basically learned how to drive a manual in another person's car. All the gear grinding and stall outs haha no valet parking for me.

U guys remember missy eliot story.
She had a lamborghini and handed down the keys to one of those valet parkings. When she came back her lambo was teared in half.

I would like to see a 'valet switch' on cars, that keeps the revs under 4k, or the boost off, whatever is necessary. After all, that is what the lockable glove box and different trunk key was supposed to be for?
.
.
Then maybe my son could borrow it!!
.
.
Maybe not.

I had a "valet switch" on my 93' Nissan 240SX (part of my Jacobs Electronics ignition system).....would shut off the car after 20-30 seconds of running if not properly "activated" (disabling it for several minutes before resetting)...... :D

NO VALET PARKING FOR ME! :D

IN Dallas TX ; first class outfit that mostly did private partys, weddings. My advice: don't if you can help it at hotels or parking garages in major cities; at a private party, if you can see where they are parking cars it should be okay. They're insured. But if they disappear around a corner and you hear a lot of tire squealling I'd self park. You know the faster the car the more tempted a guy - even a 30s guy - is to push it just a bit harder if given the chance. My company had largely responsible valets - but that wasn't 100%. I like the 'valet switch' idea - I'm sure with computerized ECUs it could be done.
