View Full Version : Food Suggestions for a Special Occasion
shigginsrx8 08-31-2004, 11:35 PM My gf and I are celebrating our 2 year anniversary on Friday. I am a romatic guy, so I am going to prepare a nice meal, some wine, candles, flowers and a little bit of frankie.
I want to take some suggestions for the menu. The only thing I know for sure is I am making a greek salad. She loves my greek salad, so I am obligated to make it.
Cheers
Sky88 09-01-2004, 03:33 AM I would look at her favorite dishes first and work from there.
No point of cooking the best steak in town if she's a vegeterian...
As for the Greek salad, I personally would opt for some nice kebab (either beef or lamb) or even some Paella with some reds.
I'm hungry now :p
hotpot 09-01-2004, 04:48 AM You'll have to post a pic of your girlfriend before I can recommend anything. It all depends on how she looks. ;)
TODreamer 09-01-2004, 06:09 AM we should be the last guys you should be asking about this stuff..... only you know your girl best.....
just feed her, her favorite food. Put on some Barry white, and then make sweet love down by the fireplace :D
Meowloud 09-01-2004, 08:10 AM Ya, just don't throw her out on her car. Maybe on the bed.. but not the car :D
Yummm, Greek salads. :)
MTLbroker 09-01-2004, 08:28 AM Rack of lamb. Definitely rack of lamb.
Go with a nice Merlot.
guy321 09-01-2004, 08:34 AM Lamb is good, especially if she's a vegetarian..
I would go with something simple tho.. lamb is heavy and makes you sleepy.. Im sure you wouldnt want to sleep right away.. fix something easy and light.. Maybe a broiled salmon filet.. with artichoke hearts , asparagus .. and a pinot grigio
If you wanted to do something really impressive, you can do my roast bonless stuffed whole chicken.. Or you could do quail too.. It will take you about 1/2 an hour just to remove the flesh from the carcas in one piece tho.. and that's if you've done it before.
MTLbroker 09-01-2004, 08:38 AM guy 321 is right.......red meat too heavy. Try Sea Bass with mango chutny.
Go with a Pinot Noir.
guy321 09-01-2004, 08:42 AM I like the mango chutney and sea bass..
You can also go a little exotic.. and do the traditional cantonese style..
Steamed whole seabass with ginger and shallots in soy sauce. Only, most women will freak out when the fish is staring at them at the dinner table.
MTLbroker 09-01-2004, 08:43 AM I'm hungry.
guy321 09-01-2004, 08:46 AM I also like the stuffed boneless quail as I mentioned before...
Here's a recipie that looks REALLY good.. I dont know how he debones them.. most people just slit down the middle then tie them back.. I start at the neck hole and work at "stripping" the meat off around the bird, so there's no stitching..

guy321 09-01-2004, 08:50 AM Im hungry too :(
And I need a GF to cook for too! :D
Photic 09-01-2004, 10:37 AM For my 2 year, I took her back to the restraunt we went to on our first date.
Girls are usually impressed if you remember stuff like that.
I don't understand it though. It's not hard to forget Hooters..
J/k.
guy321 09-01-2004, 10:40 AM Thats a good idea.. but instead of going back there, recreate the entire restaraunt in your apt..
including the exact same dishes...
and hire a waiter and a guitarist for dinner!
eat sushi off of her naked body.
guy321 09-01-2004, 10:44 AM Dont let her do it to you, she might bite the wrong roll!
eat sushi off of her naked body.
Put on some Barry white, and then make sweet love down by the fireplace :D
yeh..and then we'll all call you shaggin's instead!..LOL!
TownDrunk 09-01-2004, 10:46 AM I'd go with burritos. They go great with greek salads. Oh, don't forget the scotch... Never forget the scotch...
Oh, and if she doesn't like scotch try this drink:
In a tumbler add 5 or 6 rocks, two shots of Havana Club Rum (hard to get here in US, so Barcardi white will suffice), one shot of Malibu rum, and top off with pineapple juice. Stir it, and serve. Mmmm.... Even if you don't like pineapple or Malibu it's still pretty damn good. We lived off these the last few days of our vacation a few weeks ago.
guy321 09-01-2004, 10:49 AM Burritos?? I dont think that's the kind of noises he wants to hear from her later in the evening :D

That reminds me of a (true) story. When I was young, my girlie friend and I were... you know, messing around when I had to get up to answer the door. When I made my way back to my room, she was laying there and had a weird look on her face. As I began to crawl up over her she said, "Wait!" Then I smelled it
She cut one loose before I came back thinking she had more time for the smell to dissapate. That certainly drove me to drink.
Burritos Shiggins... Burritos... :D
Aratinga 09-01-2004, 10:54 AM Whatever you do, don't forget a sinfully chocolate dessert! It's an aphrodesiac, y'know. ;)
hotpot 09-01-2004, 10:59 AM  What is it with chocolate that women like it so much?
Photic 09-01-2004, 10:59 AM Burritos?? I dont think that's the kind of noises he wants to hear from her later in the evening :D
Yeah Burritos! It'll be like a home-made symphony!
The Dualing Buttocks now present the Blue Danube.
MadRonin 09-01-2004, 11:40 AM What kind of food does she like? Give me an idea and I'll give you a list of recipes as long as my arm. :)
shigginsrx8 09-01-2004, 01:58 PM haha, thanks for all the advice guys.
I think I am going to do the greek meal thing. She eats anything and everything really, so it should go over well. I am going to have to start looking for some nice greek recipes to make. As for chocolate, this is the one thing that she doesn't really eat that much of, more sex for me though :D .
shelleys_man_06 09-01-2004, 02:06 PM No wait, I didn't see this thread! What about a catfish fry? I'd be there at the drop of a hat. :D
moRotorMotor 09-01-2004, 02:16 PM You should buy her a necklace or a bracelet or heck, get a ring and disguise it on a plate with a lid. Give it to her and call it dessert. I think she will be surprised. :)
zoom44 09-01-2004, 02:35 PM pad thai! and use alton brown's recipe. just look it up on the food network website. his show is called good eats and the pad thai is simple and really good. the fish sauce is powerful so dont use too much!!
MI am going to prepare a nice meal, some wine, candles, flowers and a little bit of frankie.
lmao! Oh, you probably meant Frank Sinatra....
Agree with the others, keep it light. If she adores the Greek Salad, just make a nice big one and to go with, some home-baked bread. If that's not in your repetoire, you can get ready-to-bake loaves at the grocery store which will do nicely. Wine of your choice, and, umm.... Frankie. It will be evident that you're not to linger overlong at the dinner table. Maybe a little dessert for later. Lemon sorbet in small silver bowls.
93rdcurrent 09-02-2004, 06:59 AM Shiggins, I would go with lobster. It's always impressive to women that you can cook it and what an elegant meal that would make. And I would also go with some good gin martinis for a sophisticated touch. Make sure you make a neat curlie q with lemon or orange peel (chics dig that shit) :) And have plenty of wine available to really get her in the mood after dinner. And to really get her going give her some nice soft and dark (where your candlelight comes in) conversation for a while before you give her the chocolate decadent desert (wine goes better with the desert than martinis). Then polish it off with some awesome monkey sex. It would be an anniversary neither one of you will forget.
Or you could just be lazy like me and take her to sushi and a movie... :D
Last year I made the lobster before we got married.
