shigginsrx8 08-30-2004, 09:07 PM Thanks to all you comments about a new television I decided to look around some more. Specifically at LCD and Plasma televisions. Long story short............NEW TV (http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/servlet/ProductDetailDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=169409&navigationPath=32050n45260)

PUR NRG 08-31-2004, 12:27 AM Have you looked into a high def tivo? I think they're a great addition to any 16:9 setup.
Personally if I had to spend $6k on video, I'd go with a BenQ PE8700 projector ($4k) and 110" fixed Stewart screen ($2k). The main drawback is you really have to eliminate ambient light but that 110" screen is a sight to behold.

Sky88 08-31-2004, 02:53 AM Have you looked into plasma or projectors? Plasma are really nice. They have come down alot in price since.
Sony KDE61XBR950 Plasma Wega 61" $29,999.99 YOOHOO!!
But Plasma TV's have a very small shelf life...
PUR NRG...those screens are indeed incredible...that would be a fantastic setup..i know I couldn't get it with out building a separate Home Theater onto my house...now when we do build our house...daddy'o gets his Home Theater...YAY!!
jtimbck2 08-31-2004, 09:26 AM Where are the pix of your setup?
Luftwaffle 08-31-2004, 09:28 AM Holy crap. *envy* Good choice on the XBR. Now, go get Ninja Gaiden for the XBox, upgrade your skittles to Penguin Mints and buy a case of Bawls. You should be good for an entire weekend with that. :D
erog216 08-31-2004, 09:33 AM mmm, Bawls!!!
whosyourbaba 08-31-2004, 09:38 AM nice nice. I just bought the 60 inch non XBR version, very nice tv for its price.

I purchased my first house simply because I wanted surround sound and knew it wouldn't fly in an apartment. With twin powered subs a movie like Twister shakes the sofa.
Fantastic would be a motorized drop-down 110" screen (16:9 ratio) with separate 4:3 ratio drop-down masks. But those cost 3x more than a fixed screen and installation is almost as much as the fixed screen itself.

khoney 08-31-2004, 06:02 PM Just finished my media room in the new house too. A couple of pix attached. Sure, it cost beaucoup bux, but I stay home a lot :)
shigginsrx8 08-31-2004, 06:08 PM Looks good. I wish I had a digital camera. I am going to have to get on that.
As for a projector, I thought about it, but the layout of my apartment really isnt condusive to such a large screen. Plus, the one entire wall is floor to cieling windows, it would be a nightmare during the day.

Are those Definitive Tech speakers?. If so, how do you like them, I was going to get some BP8B's, but decided on the NHT's instead.

So I take it the tissue box on the coffee table is for when visitors first see that room? ;)
Greg S 09-01-2004, 09:21 AM shigginsrx8,
Good choice on the XBR. It has got to be the best of the newer micro-display TVs out there, if I had the room for it I would get one also but it's just too big for my family room. I have the pleasure of looking at high def all day every day since I work in a small high end A/V store and that is still my favorite set.
khoney,
Nice room I like the 7.1 Def Tech set up. May I make two suggestion though, add some acoutical panels along the front wall and front sides just past the speakers to dampen the front a littlle and along the back wall if you can add something to break up the back reflection it'll help out the sound to the next level. This is of course assuming you do not have a wife that would kill you for doing this to the room. :p Mine always threatens to kill me if I completely make over the living room in to a theater. something about the kids having somewhere to play.
ÜberJumper 09-01-2004, 01:17 PM My Home theatre is going to be more expensive than any home theatre in existence... simply because the house was part of the price :-(
I was tricked (TRICKED I TELL YOU) into agreeing that I'd not buy a big screen anything until my wife got a bigger house.
We're moving in December to a house that's currently being built.
