Jeffjett 08-27-2004, 11:59 PM That toy looks really good with those dark wheels. RX-Hachi 08-28-2004, 12:26 AM did you just buy a jada toys RC car and paint it ?You see that's the thing, it's not the Jada toy. It's a true RC car, the body is by HPI, and it will run circles around the Jada RC toy. (I have the Jada RC toy too, but it's so slow compared to real RC cars.) manok_adobo 08-28-2004, 12:52 AM where did you get one of those and how much did it cost? RX-Hachi 08-28-2004, 02:28 AM where did you get one of those and how much did it cost?I bought the HPI body from Tower Hobbies for $21.99 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGFM8&P=7 But that's just the body, which you have to paint and detail yourself. You will also need an RC chassis and engine, and there are plenty to choose from. Popular brands include Tamiya, HPI, Kyosho, Yokomo, Team Associated etc., and they range from around $100 for a starter kit to a couple hundred for a higher end kit. And there's lots of hop up options too. You'll also need the radio controller, speed controller, servos, battery pack and charger. Which will put you back at least another $120-$200 or more. It all adds up and can be a pretty expensive hobby. But once you've got your car setup, it's pretty fun and inexpensive to create new bodies. I think Tamiya makes the best bodies (too bad they don't make the RX-8) and HPI http://www.hpiracing.com/index2.htm is pretty good too with a wider selection of bodies. RX-Hachi 08-28-2004, 01:41 PM Anytime. But a 1/10th would kill a 1/24th. For a better match up, I'd bring my 1/24th Kyosho mini-z (I have the FD, FC, and AE86 Initial D bodies) or my 1/18th RX-7 HPI micro rs4. rx8spiritR 08-30-2004, 04:38 AM i was always wondering, can I turbo charge it????LOL Rob Tomlin 08-30-2004, 09:32 AM Too cool! I gotta get one of these. Haven't been into RC since the days of the RC10! Pete 08-30-2004, 11:50 AM sweet canaryrx8 08-30-2004, 12:29 PM nice! I plan on doing the same thing ony I'm going to try and pair it up with the rotary airplane motor What chassis did you end up running? looks to be a good fit, but then again HPI bodies have always been pretty good as far as that is concerned. I'm wondering how they would look on the Yokomo drift chassis. Here's what I run around with currently: HPI rs4mt,2 speed tranny, 9t mod motor, tons of hop-ups etc. RX-Hachi 08-30-2004, 03:00 PM nice! That will be unique. I've been thinking of getting one of those Yokomo drift kits too, they look like fun. I've got various chassis from over the years, I just threw the RX-8 body onto an old Tamiya TA-PRO that I've had for ages. I don't really race my RC cars at events anymore. I have more fun just making new bodies and then cutting them loose in an open parking lot. BTW, nice bug! |
