View Full Version : My yellow 8 dropped with ssr competions
IZoomZoomI 08-18-2004, 10:06 PM Just got me new rims mounted today. All I could say is the car is a lot more nimble and felt like the car lost a good amount of weight. I'm thinking about getting the ms kit or the ings kit next not sure still debating on whether I should keep the look as is. Let me know about your opinions. O yea sorry for the drive way pics didn't feel like going on the mountains or finding a bridge :). Enjoy
IZoomZoomI 08-18-2004, 10:08 PM and the last 3
Well, for what it's worth, yours might be about the first yellow I've seen and not wanted to reach for a bucket... ;)
mysql101 08-18-2004, 10:10 PM it looks very sharp.
i personally like the ms kit, but I'm planning on waiting a year or two before I get a kit. I figure that way the rx8 kit scene will mature by then, with more choices, and allow me to change the look of my car when I will likely start to get bored with it.
dirtylittlepaws 08-18-2004, 10:16 PM Sweet! Those SSR Comps look good on yellow.
Rxdriftingaction 08-18-2004, 10:21 PM i love that body kits!! specially the wings!! cool man
Flzrider 08-18-2004, 10:22 PM IZoomZoomI....... thats a VERY nice looking 8 you got there. It looks very clean and simple. If you dont mind me asking, how much did you get the set of wheels for? Or maybe a link to where you bought them with their price? Either way........ beautiful 8 :D
IZoomZoomI 08-18-2004, 10:24 PM thanks for the comments, the wheels itself was a lil above 1700. Tire rack is the place to go man! Shipped in two days :D Fits tpms too.
Nemesis8 08-18-2004, 11:21 PM Your driveway is wet in that third pic
Nice wheels!
310Guy 08-18-2004, 11:33 PM Great job. Those wheels look fantastic with the yellow.
BTW, I really can't tell but do the wheels stick out a bit more than the stock wheels?
TracerRX-8 08-18-2004, 11:34 PM I like it.... Did you consider going with 19"? I'm going to do the Tein springs then was hoping do get some 19"s.... but I havent really researched the fit yet. -Tracer
SP767 08-18-2004, 11:35 PM These are THE wheels. Simply Awesome.
Xyntax 08-19-2004, 12:18 AM Very nice man! I'll check this out at the meet :D
shelleys_man_06 08-19-2004, 12:22 AM Neat. How come I didn't notice this earlier? I'm still waiting for my ADVAN RG's. :(
titaniumgrey 08-19-2004, 12:42 AM nice and clean zoomer 8) , nice , I like it
shelleys_man_06 08-19-2004, 12:45 AM Damn titaniumgrey, where in the hell have you been?
Slick_Advanced 08-19-2004, 01:21 AM I generally don't like yellow but, you have done wonders with the rims and springs.
IZoomZoomI 08-19-2004, 01:53 AM I like it.... Did you consider going with 19"? I'm going to do the Tein springs then was hoping do get some 19"s.... but I havent really researched the fit yet. -Tracer
I started off wanting 19's but for practicality reasons decided not to. It's all relative and subjective I guess but the these won me over b/c they're light unlike most 19s. I'm not trying to slow the car down when it needs every lil hp on the wheels. I've seen 19's they look real nice but i'll stick with my 18's.
The rims do stick out further but not much. O yea xnthax I won't be able to make that meet sorry. I'll see you at the next one :)
RX-Hachi 08-19-2004, 01:55 AM Very nice! I believe those wheels weigh about 15 lbs each, the stock ones are 20 lbs so you shaved off an extra 20 lbs. How do you like the Falken tires compared to the stock Dunops?

Hate to be technical, from what I read its a lil above 16lbs. Haven't had much time to test them out. From the drive so far the road noise is about the same. Keep in mind these are 40 series. There's a pretty good write-up in the wheels topics area about these tires.
murix 08-19-2004, 03:09 AM Looks nice. Just like Pur Nrg's car who also happens to be yellow with the same rims. ;)
Moostafa29 08-19-2004, 07:27 AM Looking good bro. Can you feel any difference from the weight loss? Have you got your zoomer unit back yet?
PUR NRG 08-19-2004, 09:27 AM Looks nice. Just like Pur Nrg's car who also happens to be yellow with the same rims. ;)
Yeah but mine makes Pepe reach for a bucket. :p
I think SSR Comps are going to be a popular choice regardless of car color. I expect to see a lot more down the road.

XDEEDUBBX 08-19-2004, 09:57 AM LOOKS good bro..i say just keep it like that and spend the money elsewhere on the car...maybe a good set of coilovers... the HKS hipermax are good
titaniumgrey 08-19-2004, 10:55 AM Damn titaniumgrey, where in the hell have you been?
Sorry dude , was in cali for vacation , got some info from there about "raceonusa.com " too , I thought they had reasonable prices for stuff , and I went to check out their FRP kit , it's the same one as AAS , the sides were crappy and bumps everywhere , so anyone around on this forum , don't buy kits from raceon or AAS , I think I am just going get the aeroworks bumper till my real MS kit comes and then sell it , zoom zoom , you want dibs on the aerowerks front bumper once I get the real one ?
IZoomZoomI 08-19-2004, 12:52 PM Looking good bro. Can you feel any difference from the weight loss? Have you got your zoomer unit back yet?
Nah I think it might be a week or so more. Yeah the car feels like it lost two passengers :P. Might be me though I also notice my cruising speed at 75-80 is at a higher rpm.
Titanium grey: Thanks for the offer but I still haven't completly made up my mind on wheter I should change how the appearance is or change it. I like it for now I guess.
mdawgx24 08-19-2004, 03:07 PM That looks great. I'm still contemplating 18s vs 19s. Did you notice any benefit from the wider wheels as well? Also, do you have any sideshots?
IZoomZoomI 08-19-2004, 11:33 PM Well I haven't strecthed the car enough to feel the difference. I will take some side shots later on when my car is washed. :)
mobilezen 08-20-2004, 12:49 AM ..in for pics. The car and the new wheels look awesome. :)
did you keep the TPMS installed ?
if not sell me your sensors :)
car looks great.. I am still waiting a bit before i lower. Want to see what the market has to offer in a few more months ..
How much did you drop it . I have the same pkg on my yellow. Just wanted to know if the front mud gaurd hit the speed bumps
mpt_yellowRX8 08-20-2004, 01:15 PM Where did you get those rims? I have been looking and can't find any that I like, but those really look good. I have the app package too and everything seems to flow with those wheels, unlike others that I have seen that look out of place or too much.
rjplunk9 08-20-2004, 02:07 PM Where did you get those rims?
www.tirerack.com
mpt_yellowRX8 08-20-2004, 02:23 PM Thanks for the link. I have found the ones I like. The Comps Anthracite finish. I like the contrast, it goes with the black/yellow on the rest of the car.
Rotary Soul 08-20-2004, 03:09 PM your 8 looks real nice. i really think that you should keep the body stock, there's a certain beauty in that... plus bodykits are lower and get scratched more. just my 2 cents
Moostafa29 08-20-2004, 09:27 PM They are dropped on Tein S Techs, so 1.5 in f, 0.7 in r. While doing the install I was thinking he was going to scrape with the front mud flaps as well, but as far as I know I don't think he has had a problem so far, but he can tell you better than I could.
IZoomZoomI 08-20-2004, 11:37 PM The mud clears all bumps with no problem. knock on wood. I hit speed bumps everyday I go to work. I can go straight in with no problem. Moostafa got the specs on the springs. The back is hardly any different from stock imo. The fronts are a finger and half gap between the other fender and the tires.
IZoomZoomI 08-20-2004, 11:57 PM thew: the tpms sensors were fitted with the rims :)
IZoomZoomI 08-21-2004, 12:05 AM Thanks for the link. I have found the ones I like. The Comps Anthracite finish. I like the contrast, it goes with the black/yellow on the rest of the car.
also myrx8-yourcar(?) is selling his ssrs with tires for way less. So I would talk to him if you're still interested. It's in the parts for sale forum.
thew: the tpms sensors were fitted with the rims :)
ohhh cool cause i want some :)
Redlinin 8 08-21-2004, 01:29 PM well,thats my favorite yellow!...looks good!
RX-Hachi 08-21-2004, 02:08 PM Thanks for the link. I have found the ones I like. The Comps Anthracite finish. I like the contrast, it goes with the black/yellow on the rest of the car.Hey, those are the ones I'm planning to get too. Yellow lovers must think a like. Just waiting until my Dunlops wear out, then I plan to upgrade the rims and tires together.
(Also, I just noticed that SSR ripped off BMW M's /// triband logo. BMW should sue 'em, but I guess it's hard to trademark stripes.)
IZoomZoomI - great car! You've already gotten many of the same things that I've been thinking about doing. I'm curious about the MS flywheel, MS filter, and MS muffler. Did you feel a difference as you added each part?
IZoomZoomI 08-22-2004, 12:14 AM IZoomZoomI - great car! You've already gotten many of the same things that I've been thinking about doing. I'm curious about the MS flywheel, MS filter, and MS muffler. Did you feel a difference as you added each part?
The flywheel along with the lighter rims made the most difference in terms of responsiveness of the ride. From 3k and above the car just picks up, before it bogs a little. The exhaust itself I can't tell you too much but in combination with the air filter seems a bit louder than just the exhaust alone. Performance wise haven't dynoed it so I wouldn't be able to tell you factually, but I love the way the car sounds and the ways it drives, now I just have to work a little more on the suspension and am considering adding a new ring pinion to shorten the final gear.
Rob Tomlin 08-22-2004, 10:54 PM Ok, these pics have me considering getting Yellow now. Which means I will need to hurry to find an 04.
SSR Comps look great.
SHOWOFF 08-23-2004, 05:15 PM I like it.... Did you consider going with 19"? I'm going to do the Tein springs then was hoping do get some 19"s.... but I havent really researched the fit yet. -Tracer
I've got 19's with Tein S-Techs and no Rubbing going on.
jgoldstein2000 08-23-2004, 08:01 PM How hard is it to get those carbon fiber b-pillars on? where did you get them?
RotorManiac 08-23-2004, 08:30 PM Oh well, I was wondering the same thing^^ :)
IZoomZoomI plz tell us about those MS Carbon Fiber B-pillars. Where can we find them? I love the 'Mazdaspeed' logo they have on...
p.s. nice rims. did you had the chance to weigh them, to see the difference with the stock ones?
IZoomZoomI 08-24-2004, 01:19 AM b pillars are from canzoomer. They have to be imported and takes awhile. Really easy to install. The rims weighed in on my scale a lil over 16 pounds. My stock ones are 21.5 exactly. Differences aren't enormous but the response of the car overall is a lot better. The car accelerates with ease in every gear, handling has improved.
RotorManiac 08-24-2004, 03:32 PM Thx for the info. Looks are great, and since the performance is much better like you say, then this must be one amazing upgrade. Keep it coming! Can't wait to hear about those MS spark plugs;)
vinix 08-27-2004, 05:32 PM sweet ride
DKNYJoey 08-28-2004, 03:47 PM How far is it dropped; Any Scraping going on?
IZoomZoomI 08-28-2004, 03:49 PM 1.5 front literally none in the back to be honest. No scraping at all good clearance all around.
Relentless 11-26-2004, 02:34 AM Do you know what offset your wheels are? Nice fit.
IZoomZoomI 11-26-2004, 01:22 PM wow, old post :p... almost scraped my rims last night thank god to those rims protectors on the tire. They are +42 all around.
Mindtrip 04-25-2005, 10:30 AM Lets See Some New Pics!!! :)
