View Full Version : Why You Should All Immigrate... :D wakeech 04-02-2003, 02:11 PM http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3654 sorry, i've JUST GOTTA rub it in someone's face... ahahahahaaa... tallguylehigh 04-02-2003, 02:22 PM Hmmm what are the laws about importing a car from Canada???? *scratching chin* :) Strider 04-02-2003, 02:59 PM It used to be that we would want the Japan Spec cars... but it seems like it may just be easier to import the Canadian spec cars... SWEET we get the automotive shaft again... oh well- eccles 04-02-2003, 03:53 PM They have fuel economy as 13/9 City / Highway, which isn't very bad actually! You guys must have totally lead feet to only get 9mpg on the highway! (Joke, folks. I know you're talking litres/100km, but most Murrikins probably wouldn't) Sputnik 04-02-2003, 05:12 PM Originally posted by Strider It used to be that we would want the Japan Spec cars... but it seems like it may just be easier to import the Canadian spec cars... SWEET we get the automotive shaft again... oh well- Especially since there is normally very little reason to get a JDM vs USDM spec engine of the same year, considering what people plan to do with the engine anyway. It's a lot more hype than benefit. ---jps babylou 04-02-2003, 05:49 PM I thought about moving to Canada but wasn't willing to trade good old American bacon for that lame ass Canadian bacon. Toadman 04-02-2003, 07:12 PM No worries.. Hosers get their "pisser-equipped' models far later than the States. :D RX-Nut 04-02-2003, 08:13 PM What I really want to know, is why the disparity between models? Why isnt there one common spec? I can understand Japan having something different seeing as they make it and can do whatever.. but I would have hoped the rest of them could be common.. Engine and law stuff aside.. That's a necessary evil, I'm talking fancy schmancy options and such... ZoomZoom 04-03-2003, 11:15 AM Originally posted by Toadman No worries.. There are 3 obstacles, though: 1.) Money. 2.) My wife likes warmer areas - she'd move us from PA to NC, if she could. 3.) We're fairly close to our extended families, and they live down here. Cost of living up there tends to be cheaper, right? Maybe I can talk the Missus into retiring us up there. (No Florida retirement for me. I'd melt... if lusting over the beach babes didn't give me a heart attack first.) wakeech 04-03-2003, 03:26 PM Originally posted by FamilyGuy Cost of living up there tends to be cheaper, right? Maybe I can talk the Missus into retiring us up there. (No Florida retirement for me. I'd melt... if lusting over the beach babes didn't give me a heart attack first.) damned straight it's cheaper: out maxed out model is only a little more than your base model ;) ahahhaa... well, not really, but yeah, cheaper, and so's the health insurance (not to mention better by quite a few very important metrics). anyhoo, come take a visit to Vancouver, British Columbia... really great place, and MAYBE snows once a year. :) just rains a lot, but i like it... mountains, a true Pacific Rim international city... great place to live. Wing 04-03-2003, 04:53 PM Cheaper if you don't mind getting taxed to hell. Example, make $100K CDN a year, which is like 60K usd if your lucky. Take home $50K Cdn after federal and provincial income tax. So now your at $35K USD. Then on top of that add 7% to every purchase at a store for G.S.T. tax and then P.S.T is around 8% everywhere (except alberta) so aprox. 15% tax on top of all purchases. So basically cars are cheaper here if you look at the pricing. But there is a reason that the #1 selling cars in Canada are econo boxes like cavaliers and civics, where as the US it's trucks and Camry's and Accords. After tax home and expenses cars are actually more expensive for the average CDN. You have to take into a lot of different factors not just the exchange rate on the car in question. That's why the RX-8 looks A LOT less expensive if you look at the CDN pricing $36,795 CDN or approx $23K usd.
