Ok, hate might be strong but I don't think so.

I am turning 25 this year (FINALLY!) so I expect my insurance rates to drop dramatically, we all know too well the 16-25 syndrome.

Turns out I'll probably see little to no drop! WTF???

Well I havea Hyundai Tiburon, the most stolen piece of crap in Canada. Insurance rates are ROCKETTING for this car! I suspect there are a lot of totally Tiburons because of the age group this car attracts.

Anyway, I decided to price out insurance for a Nissan 350Z or Infinity G35C hoping the RX-8 will be similar maybe even less for insurance given that it has "4" doors and it is priced less.

Guess what, insurance is CHEAPER for these cars! Now a fully decked out 2000 Tiburon was $23k cdn, a fully decked out G35C is almost $50k! Also take into consideration my car is now 3 years old so replacement cost is now less etc etc etc.

Can you believe that? I HATE THIS PIECE OF JUNK! Can't wait to get out of the lease June 01 2004! I have to spend another year paying INSANE insurance rates for a car I don't even like. GLAD I didn't buy it!

a tiburon?? you won't make the mistake of getting that car again. jk.

I've heard nothing but bad news about them. reliability. performance. etc.

but I don't imagine that the insurance would be a problem. with the 8s benefits of the 4 door, 4 seat capacity and your quarter-century mark your insurance should be a significantly reduced. I'm surprised that you'd be able to get a lower rate with than z than the tiburon though.

interesting.

When I turned 25 my insurance dropped from $1800 to $1150 per year on my '98 Corolla.

Sounds like you need a new RX-8! :D

i don't understand what this 25 year old thing is, i didn't get a big price drop when i turned 25, nor has anyone i've ever met. i did get a mediocre price drop when i turned 22, that was 5 years after i got my license. i was with mercury insurance at the time.

the 25 age thing has to do with the group that is most likely to be involved in accidents.

for the longest time, that group was 16-24 year old males. although now I think that's bogus. chicks in the same age group are more likely to be involved in accidents. but its an excuse to charge guys higher rates.

of course, this is all as I understand it. and I am a 22 year old that pays outrageous rates. so I know I'm in that group. :(

I did get a good drop in insurance rates when I turned 22, not HUGE but good enough. I won't be getting a very large drop at 25 like I thought, but getting another car would help the situation.

Jais, I will not make that mistake again, it's the #1 stolen car in the country hense the high insurance rates. Performance isn't too bad, and the options were good. But at 50K Km's 3 wheel bearings cracked moldings o2 sensor spark plugs .... etc etc I won't list it all, it's junk

Insurance rates are changed by the following.

Car -- Basicly the type of car you drive has the biggest factor

Your Driving Record -- Tickets and Accidents

Age -- 16 - 25 at 25 you get a bigger decrease

Where you live -- If you live in a city with more cars, = more chances of an accident.

Sex -- If your Female, you'll have a lower rate.

Martial status -- If your Married your rates are lower.

Smoking -- If your a non-smoker, some insurance companies give you a lower rate. ( I guess smoking is a distraction.)
