Never heard of the brand before but their website (www.rotora.com) lists a large selection of applications so I guess they have a good rep.

Anyway I made the purchase through www.i-m-racing.com. I purchased the JIC coilovers through them and they're a good company to deal with. They don't list the OEM fitment Rotora rotors but since they list a Rotora upgrade kit I thought I'd call and ask. Turns out they can order the direct replacement slotted rotors.

www.vividracing.com sells the set for $440 plus tax and shipping.
www.hopupracing.com sells the set for $409 plus tax and shipping.
www.i-m-racing.com has a price meet/beat offer and sold me a set for $400 + $45 shipping. No tax since they're in Arizona.

For reference, OEM rotors from Trussville cost $468.

When you replace them can you weigh the new rotors and the old ones. I would be interested to know the weight difference. Also, what is the size of the new rotors??

New rotors are same size as stock. They are direct replacements.

I don't know when I'll replace the rotors. I bought them (and a new set of pads) as insurance in case a) I can attend the Laguna Seca event and b) the pads/rotors need replacement afterwards. The car has 22k miles and I don't know what normal rotor life is like.

well, when they arrive can you at least weigh the new ones? :D and what kind of pads did you get?

I really doubt there is a significant difference in weight. Pads are OEM. It will be a couple months before Hawk has pads for the RX-8.

i have done a research on these for the last couple of days.
and hop up racing seemed the cheapest but im check the site you got yours from.
i just wish there were cheaper calipers or a cheaper brake kit.
im thinking of getting the slotted and cross drilled

Casual Racing and Speed Source have been using Hawk Blue pads for a while. If you are interested in the pads you may want to inquire directly with Hawk.

This is great! I've been looking for a slotted stock-size brake rotor for my car; I'm switching to 17-inch SSR Mesh's, if I can find them.

I looked at those but decided to go with two piece; they are much lighter...:)

What are the steps for DIY rotor changes on the 8? And any special tools required?

Very simple, jack car up and place stands then remove wheels, calipers, brake rotors (The two fronts have two large set screws that are PITA to remove when they have been on for a while so use a large phillips bit a piece of wood to brace the wheel from turning and don't strip the head...) Put new rotors on then put everything back together... You will need a 14 and 17mm socket and the rest of the misc. stuff...

I've seen Mazdatrix's brake rotors. I'm just not in tune with getting drilled rotors. Thank you anyway for the suggestion, expo1. :)

cortc...what kind of two piece rotors did you end up getting then? or are you still running stock and waiting for two piece?

i like the rotora's but i'm hesistant because japanese steel is usually pretty crappy and the rotors made of this steel tend to warp easily... thats more of a general rule of thumb i was taught, i have no personal experience with rotora

Who said Japanese steel is not good? ScudRunner: I am waiting till someone comes out with them, or if no one does within the next 3 months I am going to have some made...

Cortc,

If you make your car much lighter it is going to lose traction. It will float above ground.

cortc...FYI, JapanParts is closed on Monday, so you'll have to wait until tuesday...I like the AutoExe rotors better, but my -8 is red, so I think they're a better match...I'm waiting to hear back from them whether the price listed for the front and rear rotors is the price per rotor or per pair...

Just in case some one gets the wrong idea...unless you live in AZ you don't pay sales tax through us and we also price match and have for a while now. Also, check my posts in the vendor forum area. The prices I list there are always discounted from what we have on our website. Oh yeah, and were in AZ too! Not picking on you just pointing this out. Also, we are the wharehouse for HopUp racing and we drop ship all the products from here.

Huff, I thought you were based out of SoCal so my mistake there.

However I did call your company directly and asked if you could meet or beat a $409 price. According to the sales rep the best you could do was $420. So I did check first but you weren't able (or willing) to price match.

Good find. For reference, after three track days and lots of hard driving, with 20k miles, my pads are pretty much gone. I have new Mazdaspeed pads on the way.

The Tech Rep from Powerslot told me they're looking at December for an RX-8 application, and they have no price data as of yet.
