tripwire 03-31-2003, 07:54 PM I called my dealer to add the NAV to my order and they asked if I wanted to add any port-installed accessories. This is the list and pricing they gave me (they also upgraded my pre-order slot from 3rd allocation to 1st!! I'm so stoked!):

did you mean aero flares?
RotorBoy 03-31-2003, 08:52 PM Tripwire... considering you are in Atlanta and I am in Savannah, that delivery date is giving me considerable hope for an earlier delivery. As we already know the 8's will be entering in Jacksonville, FL.... just 2hrs away from me. Fingers crossed anyway... I'll believe it when I see it.
RotorGeek 03-31-2003, 10:04 PM i think this is the rotor accent. Look at the silver rotor sign
http://rx8club.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=36833
tripwire 03-31-2003, 10:05 PM arrow, aero... douh! I was typing with the cellphone to my head while she was giving me the parts list. :)
They also told me they would have a "dealer showroom" RX-8 coming in sometime in April - they received confirmation of that today!!! they were going to call me when it comes in for a test drive. So I'm feeling good about the delivery dates.
tripwire 03-31-2003, 10:07 PM do you happen to have a picture of the front of that black car. they said the "polished rotar" was on the front and rear. i like it.
pmacwill 03-31-2003, 10:12 PM not happy with my choices. no boot lip, no start button. ugh. The aero look horrible. And where are those things for the front wheel vents? the X accents? The only things worth while IMO are the cd changer and the rotor accents. And the CD changer is robbery at $500
RotorGeek 03-31-2003, 10:16 PM Here is the thread where the pics are. Not a clear view of the front

wow good news!!
1. if ur in atlanta and getting delivery in 1st week of may then i imagine here in southern ca we would get them earlier but if not, at least at the same time.
2. are these options to be installed at the factory, at the port, or at the dealer?
3. for those thinking that the $970 for the kit is expensive, keep in mind that that it includes painting and installaltion
DTECH-RX 04-01-2003, 07:47 AM It's nice that they are offering more options, but I don't really see anything I would be interested in. As far as the looks department, I think the RX-8 looks perfect the way it is. The other add-ons don't really appeal to me either except for maybe the cargo net, but I can always get that afterwards since I have a credit with the parts department at my Mazda dealer.
rx8daniel 04-01-2003, 07:58 AM For those who haven't seen them yet, the above options are listed now on the Build Your RX-8 feature on the Mazda RX-8 website. The prices are as quoted above, zero cost items are "non-moonroof vehicle", carpet floor mats, and wheel locks.
The $500 for the 6CD is enough to keep me a single-CD car. I'm sure down the road an aftermarket will be out for considerably less - although the advantage is that in theory at the port they'll be 'experts' at installation of these things and your car should be less likely damaged by those doing the installation.
tripwire 04-01-2003, 09:03 AM shkeller55, I'm going through Rick Case Mazda in Gwinnett, working with Kelly - she's great.
tribal azn2, they told me everything was port-installed and that these are items that could be purchased in the future and installed at the dealership.
I'll be waiting to find that 6-disc CD changer "NIB" on eBay for half the price in about 6 months.

If all you are looking for is the slot-loaded 6 disk changer installed with the rest of the Bose system, then don't expect an aftermarket version. You'll have to replace the whole head unit system if you are going aftermarket.

zoom44 04-01-2003, 11:12 AM here is the complete list, without prices , the rotary accents include a cap to replace the "M" logo in the center of the wheels.

RR rotary foglight bezel
front fogs

Schweet! Does anyone have any pictures of these wheels?
rx8daniel 04-01-2003, 11:41 AM I'd think I would have to replace the entire head unit. Do you happen to know when they might have pics posted on their website or brochures at the dealer so we can get a visual idea of what these add to the car? I'm personally thinking cargo net and maybe brushed fuel filler door. Is the loop type spoiler the one pictured on the black car at the top of this thread? Your list didn't mention a few things like the cass player, spare tire kit, wind deflector - are those dealer added as opposed to port added? Anyone have specs on the spare tire kit - full size/donut - hardware and mounting somewhere. Would esp like to see pics of that. Seems like the Jap or UK site and/or forum and/or mag showed a pic of the spare mounted tilting high on front side at the 'front' of the trunk in the center just behind the back seats.
zoom44 04-01-2003, 12:04 PM "do you happen to know when they might have pics posted on their website or brochures at the dealer so we can get a visual idea of what these add to the car?"
no about the site but brochures should be available soon. most of these items have already be seen in pics available on this site. look at that brochure from japan.
"Is the loop type spoiler the one pictured on the black car at the top of this thread?"
yes
"Your list didn't mention a few things like the cass player, spare tire kit, wind deflector - are those dealer added as opposed to port added?"
my understanding was that the cassete player is standard. something must have changed. sorry about missing the spare tire and mounting brackets. my cut and paste must have missed. it is similar to what has been mentioned for japan. the wind deflector i am not sure about. there was a small mention of it awhile ago but i thought it was dropped so left it out. i will check.
no pic of the oz wheels yet.
RX-Nut 04-01-2003, 01:02 PM dang what's with all the added stuff on the build and order site?!
I wanted some of these stuff when I pre-ordered! Now what's gonna happen since "my 8" is already being built?!
what's installed at port? I know my dealer would probably gouge me if I asked about adding stuff on...
aaaarrrgh..
zoom44 04-01-2003, 01:33 PM these are not factory installed options. these are port or dealer installed accessories. they can be added at any time. i haven't been able to get onto the mazda site i suppose because of the rest of you generating too much traffic.
RX-Nut 04-01-2003, 01:46 PM hehheehe yup, I'm whackin the site right now...
I meant what does installed at Port mean? I can guess installed at dealer.. But who wants to do that? Sometimes getting things done at the dealer is where they gouge you big time. Plus the wait time for repairs and such at the dealer can be crazy!
Hmm.. the Rotary and Appearance pacakge look appealing. I like the shiny rotors. I wonder if that includes the rear lip spoiler. Dont think I like the huge one.
What I dont get is why the wind deflector is extra.. that's rude.. wouldnt a moonroof warrant one as standard?
BTW...What's OZ rims?

port means it's done after it gets off a ship but before it gets to the dealer. so before you take possession.
oh and the wind deflector is fugly, that's why it's seperate;)
don't have a pic of the OZ wheels yet.

zoom44 04-01-2003, 02:06 PM looks like we will have to get our lip spoilers from canada or japan
RX-Nut 04-01-2003, 02:10 PM doh.. no lip spoilers then huh.. arrgh.
wonder what the appearance package really is then.. hmm
RotorMotor 04-01-2003, 02:17 PM Ooooooo, wouldn't these be stunning:

:D
zoom44 04-01-2003, 02:18 PM the appearance package has the front air dam side aero thingies and rear aero thingies(flares?) $970
then you have to add the wing spoiler on top of that. the wing spoiler is the seen on the black car. $355
total=$1325 usd. won't be sneaking that past the wife. looks like just the cd changer for me. they don't have those strakes for the behind-the-wheel(gotta be a better name for those) vents listed. i wonder how much they will be?
RotorGeek 04-01-2003, 02:24 PM I like these rims. They are real light.

RX-Nut 04-01-2003, 02:37 PM I thought these were the flares..
http://rx8club.com/attachment.php?postid=36837
Are these not in any of those new pkgs?
I see you listed front fogs as an addon.. darn I thought those are standard! All the pics say so... please confirm.
zoom44 04-01-2003, 02:46 PM no those are the "strakes" and they are not listed on the website at all.
the base model doesn't come with fogs, but you can get them seperate if you want without bumping up to the sport package.
the flare can be seen in this pic as well as the front air dam
http://www.rx8forum.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=32640
in fact most of the items can be seeen in the brochure (http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2944&highlight=body+kit) from japan

what is the difference between the side/rear skirts and the side/rear flares? I really like the front air dam, but I'm not really a fan of the 'side flares?' Whichever ones are on the red one there in the japanese brochure I don't really like. I just want the dam!
exterior:
front air dam, strakes for wheel vents and rotor accents and foglight if available. Brushed exhaust would be cool too. The price is going to soar into the stratosphere.
RX-Nut 04-01-2003, 02:59 PM That's right, the Touring and GT come with the fogs.. whew. thanks for clearing up my panic attack.
Aah.. so those added plastics (ground effects looking things) are the flares and dams.. Hmm no thanks.
Just rotors are fine.. now I guess I might have to make my own fin strakes hahaha
DTECH-RX 04-01-2003, 04:28 PM The Sport Package also comes with fog lights.....

RX-Nut 04-01-2003, 05:39 PM I want the MP3 player.. but I dont see anything about it
ELX13 04-01-2003, 06:31 PM not a bad list of accessories but one thing is conspicously missing...
ROTOR TRIMMED START BUTTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i MUST have it. period.
if they don't offer it i'll cancel my pre-order!
;)
zoom44 04-01-2003, 07:38 PM the start button can be had in japan. perhaps you could buy it from there and have it ups to you
http://www.rx8forum.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=32644
zoom44 04-01-2003, 07:47 PM no mention was made anywhere of this window guard from the japanese brochure. i found them useful on my old accord. you can have the window down a little bit for the fresh air but no water gets in if it is raining.
RotorGeek 04-01-2003, 09:15 PM I want that keyyyyyyyy
Toadman 04-02-2003, 01:40 AM No offense, but if the lack of a rotary-trimmed start button is a deal-breaker on getting an RX-8, maybe you should look at an EVO or WRX. Put one in yourself if you "gotta have it". :)
brownchiro 04-02-2003, 09:06 AM Any one talk to their dealers about adding these accessories? Mine did not know about them and thought it was too late to add port install options.

i was kidding bruh...thus the wink at the end of my post. ;) i'll be importing the start button from japan. hey, if my friend's s2000 has one why can't i? :D

RX-EVolved 04-02-2003, 12:56 PM I'M THINKING THAT THE FRONT & REAR POLISHED ROTORS REFFERED TO IN THE "ROTOR ACCENT KIT", REFERS TO THE DISC BRAKE ROTORS, NOT THE HEADRESTS.

tripwire 04-02-2003, 04:06 PM Concerning the accessories:
I am still awaiting the answers to most of your questions. In the
meantime, I would like to give you an update on what information I was
able to gather. The Rotary Accent Package contains a front and rear
polished rotary accent. The front accent is located below the front
bumper, in the front air dam. The rear accent is located below the rear
bumper. I've seen pictures of this - and I totally like it!
Also, the Genuine Mazda Foglight Accessory is offered in three light
choices: white, blue, and multi-colored. These are compatible with most
packages (I am still awaiting final compatibility confirmation with the
Appearance Package). They are also available as dealer-installed
accessories. The standard package foglights are offered only in white
light.
I have also included an attachment that gives detailed pictures of the
RX-8 Accessories. Hopefully this will help!
I do have pictures of a fully loaded RX-8 (that show the Rotary Accent
Package) that I'd be happy to mail you. Just let me know if you're
interested, and I'll pop copies in the mail for you.
----
I've just received the answers to your remaining accessory questions.
The Appearance Package consists of a front air dam, side aero flares,
and a rear aero flare.
The Spare Tire Kit consists of a space saver (donut) tire, and a
mounting bracket & cover.
As for details on the 6-disc CD changer, it does not play MP3's. It is
only audio CD.
----
They sent me a .pdf with some high-resolution pictures of the following items: (I don't think I can upload a .pdf to the forum, so if anyone wants to convert this .pdf to .jpg format and post it, let me know and I'll e-mail it to you)
2AP - Front Air Dam
2AP - Side Aero Flare
2AP - Rear Aero Flare
MGB - Front Splash Guard
MGB - Rear Splash Guard
MND - Moonroof wind deflector
RSW - Rear wing spoiler
2RP - Polished Front Rotary Accessory
2RP - Polished Rear Rotary Accessory
CGN - Cargo Net
STR - Spare Tire Kit
CAS - Cassette Player
CDC - In-Dash 6-Disc CD Changer
As it says it accepts .zip files, I'll try to upload it.... oh well, it's 150K and it says it's too large.
zoom44 04-02-2003, 04:18 PM same as the ones you got?

tripwire 04-02-2003, 04:26 PM yeah, that's it.
brownchiro 04-02-2003, 04:29 PM Hopefully, spare tire kit comes with a jack also.
RotorGeek 04-02-2003, 04:30 PM I like the rotor accent package. That wind deflector looks nasty
RX-Nut 04-02-2003, 04:37 PM Yup the deflector is FuuuuglY!
If you havent seen it in another post.. Here's what Mazda said about the 6CD and MP3 Player..
You can not have MP3 player and the 6-CD player at same time. You would have to choose one or the other. The 6-CD player can only play audio CDs and the MP3 player can play MP3 files and audio CDs.
The estimate Manufacture Suggested Retail Price for the 6-CD changer is approximately $530 and for the MP3 player is approximately $350. Please keep in mind that this is only estimated MSRP price. The official price has not been determined and the estimate price may change.
RotorMotor 04-02-2003, 04:50 PM Keep the wind-deflector and the cassette player, but I want EVERYTHING else!!! :D
You should be able to add these after you take delivery of the car, right? I'll probably get the CD player put in up front, but I'll have to set some money aside for everything else. You think they'll charge extra for adding it after the purchase?
tripwire 04-02-2003, 04:53 PM Concerning the Foglight accessory:
From MazdaNA:
To clarify the Grand Touring Package lights, the headlights are Xenon;
and the foglights are not, they're white. The Multi-colored lights are
a mixture of colors. Official pictures and pricing have not been
released yet. I've only seen pictures of the Multi-colored lights - and
the best descriptive word is iridium, or a kaleidoscope with
yellow/blue/purple shading.
The Foglight Accessory will be available as a dealer-installed
accessory once the vehicle actually launches, closer to June.
PS: At this time, a Mini-Disc player accessory will be available as soon as the RX-8 is fully launched. We do not have pricing or further details.
RotorGeek 04-02-2003, 04:53 PM I will add the rotor accent and order the rest lator. I will install the stuff myself.
Superfan 04-02-2003, 07:27 PM So how do we go about ordering these goodies? Online, Call from dealer, or just drive out to dealer and check off what you want. Maybe I'll just fly out to the port, install it, and drive the car back:D

That's kind of ridiculous in a way. Also while reading this post I don't remember them saying anything about a Jack and tools with this kit.
Do any of you have pictures of the Rotary Accent Package we could see?

18" OZ wheels
Well, I asked rx8orders about the wheels, and here's their response:
I have been told by our Product Development department that we will not be offering OZ wheels. To answer the question about the offset for the 16" and 18" wheels, it is 50mm for both wheels.Bummer. :(
AccessoryMan 04-03-2003, 04:21 PM Did anybody notice the strake in the picture of the front splash guard and the exhaust finisher in the picture of the rear aero flare? Maybe there is more coming!!!! :D
RotorGeek 04-03-2003, 04:48 PM Is it me or are those RIMS polished??
JDMRX8 04-03-2003, 05:05 PM I think the rims looked polished. Does anyknow know what name brand of calipers the rx-8 is using?

AsianStyle 04-03-2003, 10:32 PM How much do you think the strakes will cost? It better be under $50 because it is just 4 little plastic pieces. I cant believe the price of the rotary accent. $190 for the rotor shape to become silver colored?? That seems like so much bs. It looks great but the price is just too crazy considering the spoiler is only $350.

The polished rotor accent is $139 for TWO - front and rear. So it is only 69.50 each. Well worth it in my opinion:D and really  looking.
I just hope that the rear fog light will fit inside the rear rotor accent. Because if Mazda won't sell that light to us, some aftermarket place will;)
Anyone in Europe know if you are being offered the polished rotors, too? If so, then the light will fit.
Tinman 04-21-2003, 02:23 AM Thanks for the pics Zoom!

I've seen the red twice in person and both times they looked a little different to me, the pictures just make it more difficult to decide. My advice to you if you are interested in red is to see it in the natural sunlight - if at all possible.
