View Full Version : Is the RX-8 still classed in BS (autocross)?
HeelnToe 08-06-2004, 10:57 AM Is the RX-8 still classed in BS?
I've been searching around the forum, and although I see rumors of it moving (or other BS cars moving out), it seems to be in BS. An SCCA site has it listed there too.
The odd thing is, the Philly SCCA site shows the entrants for sunday's event, and lists an RX-8 is CS.
Me confused :) BS or CS?
PUR NRG 08-06-2004, 11:02 AM Per national it is B-stock.

clyde 08-06-2004, 02:55 PM It's in BS and there is no current proposal to move it for next year.
There is a proposal to move 2000-2003 S2000s, Z4s and non-S Boxsters out of BS (into AS) for 2005. If that happens, the RX-8 will likely be the car to have for BS next year.

Geez. Talk about feeling unloved and unwanted. Fine. LEAVE then. Go be with your REAL friends. You never really loved me anyway... Ahem. Wrong forum, huh?
Thanks guys. BS it is then.
Now if I can just figure out how to fit in there WITH the helmet. If I could just remove the seat...
ScudRunner 08-06-2004, 04:14 PM dude, if I can fit in there with the helmet, anyone can fit in there with the helmet :D

How tall?
At 6'2", I'm already just about into the roof (manual seats, sunroof). I fit, but there's no room to spare.
I'm guessing I'm gonna have to lean the seat waaaaay back and drive arms-out style. Not the best position for autox, but oh well...

ScudRunner 08-06-2004, 08:12 PM I'm 6'2-6'3, and weigh about 250...I have the power seats, and a sunroof...it's a tight fit, but i fit...
Dark8 08-07-2004, 12:11 AM I'm running STU for the remainder of the year. I will be there next season anyway with the mods (anti-sway bars, springs, shocks) that I have planned for this winter. And the money I'm saving by not having to get 'R' tires for BS is paying for the mods.
About the head room: Just consider the roof liner as another point to brace yourself while conering. It really makes you feel as though you are part of the car. :p

Of couse, it all depends on the local competion, but don't you have to have an upgraded wheel & tire package to be competitve in STU? If you are going against STIs & EVOs, it seems like you'd absolutely have to have those 17x10s, running 275 section G-Force KDs, or some such.
Dark8 08-09-2004, 04:11 PM Just depends on how fast you want a trophy. My budget doesn't allow me to do everything in one year. Wheels and tires are for next year's budget. Locally if I would have ran BS at the last event (on stock tires) I would have placed 2nd out of five entries. I'm the only one in STU and am trying to get other local RX-8's to come out and make it a "Spec-8" class. All of the EVO's and STI's around here want to run more boost which throws them into SM. This year I'm just having fun running what I have.
AlexCisneros 08-09-2004, 04:16 PM yeah, those EVOs and STIs are tough even with the 275s
But then I just think the driver needs improvement
paulyg 08-09-2004, 05:09 PM HeelnToe, I assume you were planning on coming to the autoX this past sunday? (8/8/04) I didn't see any black RX-8s there but there was a silver one. He did very well for his 1st time out. Anyway we have another one this sunday, 8/15, at Boeing. Maybe I'll see you there.

That was the plan, lol. I didn't fall asleep until 2am sat night... then the alarm went off at 5am... I looked at my helmet on the bedroom floor, then my comfy warm pillow... the pillow looked sooooo much better at that moment ;)
I saw him (silver one) listed in the results. Not bad at all!
I keep hearing jokes about how nasty the Boeing lot is. Is it really that awful (rough)?
paulyg 08-13-2004, 09:01 AM It's not the best lot in the world. But not as bad as the Allentown Fairgrounds  There are just a few really bumpy sections. One or two of them always end up in a braking zone, or on the exit of a turn. But it's nothing most suspensions can't handle.
When it gets really intersting is in the rain. The bumpy parts become large puddles. I've run in the pouring rain there are got third. Looks like this week will be another wet one.

The nice thing about rain is it often evens out tire advantages <g>. My first and only class win (many years ago with my old CRX on street tires) was in the rain. I otherwise couldn't catch the autox-tired (mostly Yoko 008's back then) cars.
But geez, this is m first RWD car in 20 years. In the rain, that oughta be a superbly educational experience, lol.
I'm still hoping to go sunday, but my father-in-law had a kidney translant yesterday (been waiting 5 years for one! so far so good) so we've been running back and forth to hospital. We'll see what sunday brings. Somebody needs to put those S2000s and Boxters in their place!!!! Yea, right, lol... I'll be happy to just FIND the course ;)
I watched a video of a run at Boeing (guy in a Saturn?), BTW. I see where the "rectangle" comments come from, lol. Looks tiny... but fun ;)
