I'd turn my '79 RX-7 into the biggest sleeper in North America.

Let's see:
Koni 5-way adjustables
Racing Beat Springs
Polyurethane bushings for the front
Spherical end links for the rear
Panasport rims 15 inch
Sumitomo HTRZ
Stock repaint code K3 Sunbeam Silver
Sparco racing seats
Infinity sound system

and now the best part:
Supercharged Renesis :D
Racing Beat exhaust system (if I had $80 large, they'd make one for me)

Then I'd still have $40k for university. Sweet!

Small deposit on a Porsche Carrera GT. I'd then have to sell my house (at least) for the balance.

Lotus 340R (can you still get them for 70k?) with a tuned Renesis

I'm with you. My brother has one, and there is nothing quite like slamming the throttle and listening to the v6 grunt its way to 3k, and then scream to 8k (sounds like a 4 cylinder after about 5k). Mean, mean car.

V6 in a BMW? I don't think so. ;) :). It is a six in line.

We don't have to pick on eachother for their typos man.....in the last few post people talking about a M3 having a V6 engine....i think that guy just had a typo, he wanted to say Inline6....and if u understand it already dont pick on him......that would make him feel bad:(

I'd get...

RX-8 6-speed with no options (little lighter) ~ $30K

Ducati 999s ~ $15K

Honda Interceptor ~ $11K with full set of luggage

Used Toyota Tacoma ~ $15K with off-road package

That's $71K total

The rest would be used for mods for the RX-8 and the bikes. Not much left. I know.

hmmm...
that's a pretty big wad of cash...

but :) easy choice.

1993 Competition Yellow Mica RX-7 R1 FD3S...
i don't care how much money it would cost, i'd make it better-than-new in every way: if i could keep the twins i would, but for longevity's sake i think i'd go to a single if i had to... and then trophy the twins (or make a shrine with a junked 13B rotor, or whatever... :D)... i don't need more pwoer... +260 is terribly fast for me... and i'd rarely USE ;) it anyways.

call it an obsession, i love that car. i'd be everything i need for the next 5-7 years.

so, say i spend $45k on the car (spare NO expense), the rest goes to school, maybe a trip, and a whole lot of really nice dates ;)

competition yellow '93 rx-7 r1. good choice, one that's on my mind a lot, too. i'm also obssessed about those:D

If the 80.000$ were to be spent solely on transportation, I'd probably go with an RX-8, a slightly used Porsche Boxter S and I'd throw in a Honda CBR1100XX (http://www.hondamotorcycles.com/motorcycles/Sport/model.asp?ModelName=CBR1100XX&ModelYear=2003&ModelId=CBR11XX3) Super Blackbird just for the hell of it... That really ought to keep me happy for a day or two ;)

If given carte blanche with the cash, I might just go for a new bike (VFR 800 (http://www.hondamotorcycles.com/motorcycles/Sport/model.asp?ModelName=Interceptor+ABS&ModelYear=2003&ModelId=VFR800A3), CBR1100XX (http://www.hondamotorcycles.com/motorcycles/Sport/model.asp?ModelName=CBR1100XX&ModelYear=2003&ModelId=CBR11XX3), Aprilia Futura (http://www.aprilia.com/ridezone/ing/models/futura/futura.htm) or Triumph Sprint ST (http://www.triumph.co.uk/site/bikes/page.cfm?BikeID=74)), a few guitars and amps and a sensible car... like an RX-8! I'd be one happy trooper

Cheers

Porsche 996 Targa (or at least I think its the 996 911), and with the huge amount of money left I would buy a half-tank of gas. :D

The Sun International Elise is a great choice. Personally, the 195HP Acura Type R motor is a much better choice than even the stock motor from Lotus. Much more power, reliability, and even better gas mileage. That is a great fun car for ~$55K (according to their website), though it could probably done for $10K less.

I think everyone one on this forum has had this $80K+/- dream at some point. Mine consist of:

427 Cobra replica ~350HP - ~$30K (weekend car)
2004 Subaru WRX STi - ~$35K (daily driver)
Ducati 999 - ~$20K (just b/c it is one bad ass bike)

Ok, I went over the limit by $5K, heck for these three vehicles, I'd even pull the remainder out of my own pocket. :)

$80K? I'd restore my 7 to new/like-new condition, then get an NSX and supercharge it. That's all.

I'd be hard pressed not to use the remainder for an 8.

the m3 though. absolutely. total powerhouse. I'd rather take that unassuming, classic style with the 333 horses over a glam tuner anyday.

I would get a 300zx twin turbo. Mod it up to about 600 ponies. Not the greatest cars but Ive always wanted one. Oh and of course i would get an rx-8 :D .

I'd build an Ultima GTR with a 3-rotor 20B, instead of the standard Chevy V-8. Three rotors and 2,000 lbs curb weight sounds like fun to me :D

the m5 is certainly an amazing vehicle. it is faster and its bigger. its a sedan.

I think the popularity of the m3 lies in its more appealing 'sporty' nature. I'd rather have the smaller 2 door coupe, than a 4 door sedan.

Oh, I love the M5 as well, but I think it's starting to get a little long on the tooth, especially when compared to more recent competitors like the Audi RS6 (450HP, AWD) and the E55 AMG (Almost 500HP). Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't turn down an M5 if someone gave it to me, but there are now some choices one can make for their hard earned $70K-$80K.

I would love to do a '1 Lap' in anyone of those cars with three of my friends.

I think the M3 gets more attention, b/c it gets more attention from the automotive press and it's a little more affordable than the M5. Also, being newer helps too. Once the V10 M5 comes out in the next gen 5 series, everyone will be saying, 'what M3?'
