Did anyone see this last night on TNT? I know, you're thinking, 'TNT? Who watches that scrappy little channel?' Well, I've been waiting for this show for months now thanks to "The Twenty" that they play in the movie theaters here instead of power-point ads. Last night was the 2-hour world premiere. It is a limited series, with only 9 (I think) episodes.

I have to tell you, as someone with some slight exposure to counterterrorism and the intelligence services, the program is very good. One of the most critical aspects of the program is that it really helps the average viewer understand just how murky the intelligence community is. Unfortunately, in the last couple of years the intel community has taken a LOT of criticism. This coincides with an era of unprecidented public disclosure of intel information. In my opinion, the public is given too much information these days. The average Joe does not know how to interpret raw intelligence, and does not understand that NOTHING is black and white. When the single piece of raw intel proves to be wrong (which is very common - that's why we have analysts) it makes the intel community look incompetent. If you act quickly and are wrong the public crucifies you. If wait for better information and blow it, the public crucifies you. Very difficult job. Anyway, this program does an excellent job of depicting just how difficult it is to determine what is actionable intelligence. The story is also very good (so far!), as is the acting. Unfortunately, the 1st episode is not being re-aired, so you'll want to catch up beforehand if you want to check it out: Monday 9:00 pm EST on TNT. Go to tnt.turner.com and read up on the series - the main thing is reading up on who the characters are. That should pretty much bring you up to speed.

Watched it. Thought it was a great show. Not quite as good as MI-5 but at least as good as 24.

I started watching it on Tuesday night, but I fell asleep during the last half hour. Not that it was boring. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. It's just that I always fall asleep on the couch after 10p.

Hopefully TNT will replay it so I can catch what I missed.

They ran it back to back (8pm-10pm & 10pm-12am) on Monday and I assume that they will re-run it this weekend (it is the only new show they have).

I watched it on Monday at 9p. I didn't realize they showed it again on Tuesday. :( I was busy watching Secret Window (lame, stupid, boring, etc...). I would have watched The Grid instead.

I agree. I thought it was a lot like MI5. Does anyone know what happened to MI5? It seemed to me that it came to a very abrupt and strange ending. It was like it got cancelled and then they just threw together a last episode to kill everyone off.

Corrected my text, it was on Monday night back to back.

I'm not 100% certain but I thought I heard that MI-5 was getting another season...going to check.

BRITISH AGENTS INFILTRATE AMERICAN NETWORK

The third series of BBC One's espionage drama 'Spooks' has been licensed to A&E Networks in the US, following the channel's success with the first two series.

BBC Sales Company in New York agreed the deal for the series, which is known to American audiences as 'MI-5'. The recently commissioned third series, produced independently by KUDOS and starring Matthew Macfadyen, Keeley Hawes, David Oyelowo, Peter Firth and Jenny Agutter, will be a ten-parter. Filming begins this month and is due to continue until July ready for screening on BBC One in the autumn. It will premiere in the US on A&E later in the year.

Candace Carlisle, BBC Sales Company's chief operating officer, said: "The pace and topical themes, high production values and attractive cast, gives 'Spooks' an international appeal. It's a perfect fit for A&E's schedule."

The BBC Sales Company is a joint venture between BBC Worldwide Americas and Discovery Communications Inc. The company licenses, co-produces and distributes tv programmes in the US and Canada on behalf of the BBC and DCI."

And that's the whole article, word for word. I hope that puts everyone's minds at rest that A&E WILL be showing Season Three!

:END

Found this over at the A&E discussion boards for MI-5.

I was hoping to have a new series to watch, but got turned off by the political digs at the current administration. Should have expected it, given the two radical left political activists playing the leads. It was totally unnecessary to the plot to have the MI6 lady make the 'cowboy' comment, but once again the entertainment media is trying to shape the minds (being generous here) of the viewers. So, that was my first and last episode of The Grid.

If you're that thin skinned how do you watch anything?

Considering that in many other Countries Americans are seen as cowboys I hardly see the problem with it. Going all the way back to Die Hard (as far back as I can remember right this second) Bruce Willis is refered to as and perpetuates the stereotype of Cowboy Americans. The MI-6 lady making a Cowboy reference is nothing more than the perception of Americans abroad. Get a hat, go with the flow.
