Funny you should mention it. I have these wheels for my sc300 and I have ordered a titanium RX-8

I love the way these wheels look but being a owner I can tell you not everything is perfect with them. They have the following issues:

1. The inner "hub" of this three piece wheel is chromed well, but the outer "barrell" section has a very cheap chrome plate to it. I was dumb enough to use chrome wheel cleaner on these "chrome wheels" :(. Well, it screwed up the coating on the barrell section pretty bad. But even if I hadn't used the cleaner, I don't think the coating lasts that long anyway with it being especially sensitive to dirt, grime, road salts etc.

2. The wheel has a right angle valve stem and that has contributed to three seperate flat tire incidents. If the right angle stem isn't put on just right (I thought it was on the rim coming from factory but it is actually installed at the time of tire mounting) with the correct amount of torque, it will overtime vibrate itself loose and a small leak will be formed. This means you'll have to go to a top notch wheel shop to get the tires/wheels mounted AND you'll need to monitor pressure constantly. I guess it is the smooth ride of my SC300 but low tires in the rear of the car are very hard to sense just by driving. And these wheels aren't good about taking punishment when the tire is low. Which leads to ...

3. The barrell of the wheel isn't very strong. I have, on one occassion, felt my tire being low and have pulled over before it went completely flat. "Pheeww!", I thought to myself, but the wheel had already been dented badly in the short period that the tire was low even though I don't remeber hitting any bumps.

4. Despite the wheel being a three piece wheel, Enkei won't replace just the "barrell" of the wheel. You have to buy a whole new wheel if the wheel is not fixable. (one of my flat tire incidents led to a non-fixable wheel).

5. Despite the wheel being currently listed on Enkei's website, some sizes have been discontinued. If you need a new wheel in a particular size that they don't make anymore, you're SOL.

The good news is that the bolt pattern will match the RX-8's. I will be putting them on to see how well they fit. If I can get my 18X9.5's  to fit on the rear, you'll be looking at one happy man.

But personally, I would find another wheel to go with.

Does anyone know what the size is on the Mazdaspeed rims. They might just look bigger since the car is lowered. I really like those MS rims and want to get a set similar to them so if anyone knows who makes them for MS or a rim that is similar in style please let me know. I ordered the 8 in black and I've always liked black cars with gun metal rims.

Mazdaspeed rimes are 18"x8". Same as factory sport package. The Mazdaspeed rims can be had in aluminum or magnesium (very light, mass and wallet). Magnesium does not hold up well to road salts and is not as pot hole tolerant as aluminum.

The factory offset is reported to be 50mm while the Mazdaspeed rims have an offset of 40mm.

That is one reason why they look farther out than factory. 10mm is almost half an inch.

With that in mind you should be able to get 9" rims with 50mm offsets on the car. My Aegis rims on my current car are 9.5" @ 45mm and 8.5" @ 44mm. When my RX-8 arrives, I will give them a shot and see if they fit.

I am positive the 8.5" won't have a problem on the front or rear but the 9.5" (with 275 rubber) are going to be a tight squeeze on the rear and have almost zero chance of fitting on the front (I would never want them up there anyway)

Mazdaspeed wheels have been traditionally made by Volk, if you browse their website, you'll see the previous mazdaspeed rims listed there. (MS-01, MS-02).

I vote for any wheels made by Volk, SSR, Advan, Fiske, HRE, etc.. Eneki has been pretty ricey lately, and most of the other brands are low quality knockoffs.. adr, tenzo-r, motegi, etc.

I like the Volk TE37, Gram Lights 57Pro and the Mazdaspeed Rims. I think I’m just going to wait until I have the car to get the rims. I’ll kick my self if I buy them now and a couple of months down the road the MS rims become readily available.

dude are u blind? those arent chrome wheels. they are forged aluminum. The Racing Hart wheels are made in Japan... so I do not know what you are talking about. obviously your english really sucks cuz I did not say they were CHROME nor did I say it was MY car.

Efini,

Your silver rims are too shinny. Use photoshop and put some dirt on them to make the Aussi happy.

Make the wheels look like they came out of a Mad Max movie. :)

How about something like these?

I like the look of HyperSilver and Hyperblack, though normally I'm not a black-rim person. The good thing about the even symmetry is that they have no 'roll-dig' look to them.

What I mean by that is, when rims have curved or angled spokes in one direction, when they are mounted on the car, one side will look as if the wheels are 'rolling', the spokes smoothly caressing the ground, while the other side of the car will have wheels that appear to be 'digging' with clawlike ferocity into the asphalt of the street.

Now, if you have a preference for either, that's a personal taste, but I think the uniformity is most aesthetically pleasing, either all of one OR the other.

Or maybe these...

Aeterna
05-29-2003, 02:09 PM
Here's an extreme example just to show you what I mean by the 'roll-dig' appearance.

Aeterna
05-29-2003, 02:11 PM
Compare the above with this 'mirrored' image which is what the rims would look like on the other side of the car.

roll dig?

the first set of wheels you posted look similar to the stock ones

Aeterna
06-01-2003, 09:55 PM
Hey Efini 8, the explanation is given in the last 2 of my photo attachments. I'll agree that the first set of rims I posted DO look like the stocks, but just the little bit of difference with the 'hyper black/silver' makes them stand out; rather than trying to create that effect yourself on the stock rims.

"Roll-dig" is just a term I used to explain what appearance I was trying to define. It currently has a trademark application pending and anyone who wishes to use it must pay me a bajillion dollars or 1 MazdaSpeed RX-8, preferably painted white (since that color won't be coming to the States).

:D :D :D :D

LOL Efini 8, hope the explanation helps!

This is a very nice rim LightEmUp. I am having a black RX8 but I think the gun metal colour looks better. Gold will be very odd I agree. White is not bad but..... not my style

Good choice... we seem to have the same taste... what do you think will go with black? Blonze wheel?

with black? i say if you're the "look at me" type, go for black on bronze or black on polished. if you're more conservative, black on hyper black. black on silver is ultra-conservative and rather common i think but is almost guaranteed to look good.

This may have been mentioned somewhere in this long thread, but what would you think of chroming the stock rims? I like the style and choming would add extra flair. I have the Velocity Red. Also, will there be any problem removing the air pressure sensor or having the chrome interfere with it's function? Finally, what would I expect to pay to chrome 4 rims?
