Picking up RX8 on Thursday - Few Questions

Hi everyone, I have been checking out this site for a while, and have finally decided to go with the RX.
I put down a deposit today and will take delivery when the sale of my current car is finalized on thursday. The car I put the deopsit on has the GT pack with the red leather. I have been set on this combo but the cars inside seemed a little dirty, and the leather looked like it was kind of old. This car is $100 cheaper than another which is identical, except it has all black leather. The sales guy said it has been there for a few months and the prices have increased. I plan on taking the red leather if they can get it clean, otherwise I will take the black leather. The older car has 110 miles on it, the test drive route the dealer takes is about 7 miles so it hasnt been taken too much. I was just wondering what everyone thinks, the car drove fine, was there any problems with the car 6 months ago that are fixed now? Would it be normal for the leather to look faded after sitting in the sun for a few months. It kind of scares me but I really want the red leather pack.

Thanks for any feedback

Well, if you want to know how long it has been sitting around just open the driver's door, and on the pillar below the latch is a silver build card. On that card is the build date. You have to look closely because there are alot of numbers and information, but part of it is the build date. Still, the age doesn't really matter; it's the condition. If they can't make the car the way that you want it, there are more RX 8s on dealer lots to choose from. Whatever you get, have fun - H

OK ask the service dept Manager, they have to tell you and should have a record in there service computer system that they can pull IE: Take your 8 to the dealer for a oil change then you forget what your miles where when you changed your oil? if you ask them they can pull it up in there system. I got my 8 with 12-miles on it:D .

If the older car is extremely low mileage (under 20), I'd gladly pay the $100 difference for it. Knowing that no one has had the opportunity to rag out our car gives peace of mind that's easily worth $100.

I'm also not sure why the leather would be dirty unless there's a "story." Cars sitting on the lot shouldn't get dirty on the inside unless there's a LOT of dust flying around, like from a nearby construction site. Seems suspicious, IMHO.

I'd follow Haze's advice (which I did not do myself) and check the build date. However, there's no excuse for faded interior and dirt, if they cannot get it to showroom condition, walk. You're paying good money for a car, and this is going to be your car for a long time, so it's probably worth it to walk now and pick up an identical one next week at another dealer. There are plenty of 8s everywhere, no reason to get something less than perfect. HTH.

GotBass,

I have owned mine for a year now with 10K miles. The 8 is a great package and lots of fun but if you have cruised this site you know that almost everyone complains about MPG. Enough said on that topic but today in Southern California it is 95 degrees with 65% humidity and the RX-8's AC just can't keep up with the heat. I noticed that you are in Chicago so you get temps in the 90's in the summer and I would caution you about RX-8's poor HVAC system.

I just came back from an hour drive with AC to full blast and was still sweating. I have tinted windows and had the AC on recircular mode but just could not cool off.

Anyway my two cents and good luck with your next car.

There's got to be more than one Mazda dealer in Chicago. Call the internet sales managers and tell them what you are looking for. A car that needs significant detailing and over 100 test drive miles needs to be waaay more than $100 less than the next car with the same window sticker.

Definitely hold out for the red/black if that's what you really want.

Have the dealer put Dunlops on the RX8. To sell you the car they should do this. The Dunlops have a much better wear factor.
Bridgestone= 150
Dunlops= 350 I think
Bridgestones do have very good feel. Anyone have Dunlops to tell how they feel?

Details......

Tell them you want it 'detailed' to look like NEW.

Let them send it out for detailing, or clean it up in-house, but DON'T accept a crappy looking interior.

The mileage is no real worry, you can't hurt the engine (much) it's rev limited, and protects itself pretty well...(can't rev it above 5k when it's cold etc.)

Have you asked for a chunk of 'extended warranty' to assure you there is no lasting damage? Might pay off....

Best of luck.

Both of mine have 04/04 build dates and I have so far, not had any of the issues other speak about here such as AC etc... Both came M-Flashed... and both had less than 30 miles..
