RotorGeek 03-21-2003, 06:22 PM Holy $hit I went to southbeach today and got too sit in, REV, and play with the gears. Ask me anything. I must have spent like 2 hours with it. I'm going tonight again
I have a ton of pics, but I do not know how to post them. Help
chenpin 03-21-2003, 06:28 PM cool! so how do u like it? how does the engine sound?
cueball 03-21-2003, 06:34 PM When, What, How, Why?
RotorGeek 03-21-2003, 06:35 PM Sound? what sound? This engine is sooooo quiet. Granted it was parked the whole time. I reved it to about 5k and I heard a whine, thats it. You also will not feel any vibrations at all.
chenpin 03-21-2003, 06:37 PM um, can't think of any questions......were the seats comfortable? was a 6cd changer installed?
RotorGeek 03-21-2003, 06:37 PM When? Today and saturday maybe rest of week.
What? The RX-8 parked on southbeach
How? A new york promotion company is promoting it here South FLa. Its spring break
Why? Promo
RotorGeek 03-21-2003, 06:40 PM All seats were very good . I sat on all four. The passanger has more leg room becuase there are no pedals. There was no In dash changer, I checked
laferle 03-21-2003, 07:01 PM How was the headroom? Enough for a 6'3"?
RotorGeek 03-21-2003, 07:03 PM It will be tight in back. But I asked a guy that was 6.2 and he had about in inch from roof. His seat was not all the way down. He raised it.
ffjaydee 03-21-2003, 07:15 PM Bring those pictures on!!!!!!!!!!!

OK. you say engine quite, which is a good thing. What about the exhaust sound? Does it have that sweet exhaust note that puts a grin on your face and make it stay there!?
RotorGeek 03-21-2003, 07:59 PM Maximus funny you ask. I was triing to look at the taillight really close when some guy reved the engine. It does have good sound but at higher RPM's. It was loud. sounded like a rotary with a piece of cloth over it's mouth. An aftermarket exhuast would make it sound meaner and deeper.
Maximus 03-21-2003, 09:22 PM How about the instrument panel? How did it look like at day time. Did you check it with the lights turned on? Did you notice any change in color from blue to white when you start the engine?
wakeech 03-21-2003, 10:00 PM ... i hope you guys aren't into the "Greddy" note...
RotorGeek 03-22-2003, 12:26 AM ok im back from southbeach again. I went to find the RX8 at night but they moved it. To answer the question about the guages. When the engine is on and the lights off they will be a cool blue color. The blue is very light. It is very pleaseing to the eye. When you flip the lights on it turns red, What I found out by playing with them is that you could switch back to blue by adjusting the dimmer dial to the left of the steering wheel. If you move the dial down it dims the red.If you move it up the red will get brighter. When you reached the top of the dial push up a little more and it clicks up once and they turn blue again.
You can have both blue and red at Night and just blue during the day. Very cooolll
maikeru 03-22-2003, 07:09 AM How did you guys rev it with no pedals?
ffjaydee 03-22-2003, 10:40 AM The Pictures!! Are they in a file already? If they are I will give you my current address that will accept larger pictures. Just trying to help!!

RX-Nut 03-23-2003, 12:54 AM Wow! Great shots.. Looks like a fun day you dog!
How comfy was it in the back. Me and my dogs are about the same height as you folks and he thought he wouldnt fit in the back. Although he didnt try. It didnt look like he would have fit is why. Plus the fact we didnt want to look like dweebs if we got his butt stuck in the back heheh
IGOZMZM 03-23-2003, 01:14 AM One thing I've noticed is that the rotor motif in the seat backs is only seen from the front on the leather seats (I know its a hole and you can see the hole from both sides but I'm talking about the actual metal looking part) and the cloth seats have the metal motif is on the front and back because of the lack of plastic.
Superfan 03-23-2003, 01:28 AM Board Member luiml73 (Luis) was working the event, called him up and he told me where the car was at. So went to check the 8 out tonight. The trunk has a small opening.. It reminded me of a Eclipse Spider's trunk. The engine is really set low and back.. The pass thru to the trunk is absolutely unless your trying to hide something fast like an open container of alcohol. The gauges are amazing, probably the coolest I've seen. The shifter has a short throw. I reved it to about 5k and you could barley hear the engine. Maybe with some load it might be a little louder. The back seat is a full seat as described and not one of those little milk crates some other cars have.
Thanks luiml73 for cool gift.
Gamera 03-23-2003, 01:45 AM Thanks RotorGeek, great pics. I'm glad you showed little details I never had a chance to look at before, like the lighter socket tunnel bin, the open rear window, and the rear lip spoiler. Look forward to more if you have them. Do you have a shot of the handbrake in the down position?
I noticed one of the pics was flipped, I thought it was a right driver at first.
RotaryXTypeSH 03-23-2003, 03:18 AM I'm wondering what the key looks like......i heard from japan they got their key.....like a rotary shape key. Triangle with the different colors, matches ur car.......so that's y i wonder what the key is like in US
BenHayat 03-23-2003, 07:16 AM On pic 5 (RX5), why does the steering wheel show on the right side than the left? Did you flip the picture?
..Ben
Lensman 03-23-2003, 07:17 AM The image is horzontally reversed. Inspect the text on the controls closely.
DTECH-RX 03-23-2003, 07:31 AM Thanks for the pics Rotorgeek! Unfortunately I'm not sure I'll be able to make it down there to see it in person...damn it! The seating looks perfect and since I'm only 5' 6" I know it will have plenty of room front and back for my needs.
The power outlet looks perfect for having a cell phone connected and sitting inside the storage compartment while it's still closed.
The gauges sound awesome and I really like the fact you can change the color on them. The blue should look awesome and go nicely along with the blue exterior I ordered!
Thanks again!

Actually, having had an HKS exhaust on a moderately modified Nissan 240SX I had for a few years, I'm kinda partial to the HKS exhaust note when it comes to imports.... ;) I think it would sound "perfect" on the RX-8 given the description of the exhaust note by several members so far, but only the in-person test will tell for sure. Not to mention good power gains! :)
Superfan 03-23-2003, 10:26 AM RotaryXTypeSH: The Key is was a plain Mazda Key with a FOB :( but this was a pre production unit. Maybe Preorders get the Key your talking about.
The Greddy note is crap.. I like a deep note. The N1 I have on my FD has a nice note but it's bit loud. BTW, I put it on the car before the whole super rice revolution occured. In hind sight, I would have used an N2 which look's stock.
RotorGeek 03-23-2003, 11:42 AM Hey guys I will post more pics soon. Lets see where to start.
If you are 5'10 or 6ft and the rear passanger is the same you will not have a problem, Legroom is tight but not unbareable becuase the rear seats are sooo frecken comfortible. You recline back alot soo head room is not a problem.
Yeah the rotor motif is only in the front of the leather car, I have not seen the cloth one yet, maybe today.
The looked like a regular key:( . This was a production model I'm hoping it will be a rotor key once it's out.
I will post more as soon as I can
RotorGeek 03-23-2003, 12:01 PM Everyone was wondering about the light under the mirrors. Well here is a shot of the pre production with a plastic cover where the light will be.

Mazda man 03-23-2003, 12:25 PM What light? An indicator?
RotorGeek 03-23-2003, 12:53 PM No it' s a light that go's on when you unlock the doors with your key fob. When you park and get out it lights up soo you dont sept in puddle

Thanks for the welcome. I'm sure if I hang around long enough the story will come out  ;). I'm only 24 now, so the geritol will have to wait a few years, but yea, I miss the times when my biggest concern was which party to go to.

Yeah the red looks real nice in the sun. It has a goldish look to it. Very nice indeed.
I Have a Olympus C-50 digital cam with 5 megapixel. It's small and takes awesome pics
