This Yellow has been driving around the next town over (Manchester) since 2/2004 I only go into Toms River for service, too many dam cars on the road during the summer. When you get your Yellow I'll buy you a beer at Nick's on 37, two yellows side by side would look cool!

It's About 75 miles east. I went to one meet this year, the 4/18 one. With a family weekends in the summer are hard.

I am really surprised by the results of the poll with regard to the color Silver. It is near the bottom, just above Yellow.

Me too, I've had nothing but compliments. However, I think those that don't like yellow are just polite and keep their mouths shut.

You either love yellow, hate it, or don't have the guts to go with such a loud color but admire it as well.

I love my yellow car. Everytime I go get gas, everyone comes around to see my car =)

I was happy to find this board to see that our "rare yellow" color so admirably represented. We just bought our yellow RX8 last night with 38 miles on the O.D. :) The local dealer still had a bunch of 2004's (all manual) still on the lot, of which one was my wife's FAVORITE color yellow. Since this will be 99% her car and she has been wanting this for a LOOOOOONG time, I must say she's tickled yellow. They said that this was the LAST NEW YELLOW IN THE ST. LOUIS, MO AREA. We couldn't believe that they changed yellow for white in 2005. That was both a good and bad. Good because it makes the yellow rare, and bad because the yellow blows the white out of the water when it comes to looks (just our opinion). Our car is loaded too, including sun roof and spoiler. We have only seen 2 other yellows on the roadways within the past year. Therefore, yes, we love that it is a rare color. The windows are getting tinted tonight (35% driver/passenger & 20% rear and quarters). I ordered the moonroof deflector last night too, since we like that addition. It is missing only the front flares, but in due time we may get those. Pictures will be up on here soon, so check back. My wife really wants to deck the inside with yellow tones.

Very cool! Welcome aboard. I want to see somebody paint the plastic/aluminum-look trim along the center console. That would add some yellow to the interior. Something to consider. (My seats have yellow inserts, so it wouldn't work for me.)

Hey, I believe that's me. If you mean these (see pic), I had them custom made by GGBailey. I'm very happy with them, but I've also been thinking of getting black and yellow dotted cocomats too (for the bad weather days.)

I've also wanted a yellow and black shiftknob for sometime. But the problem is I really like the rotary design of the stock knob. I'm toying with the idea of buying a second stock knob and taking it to a custom leather shop to have them do it up in two tone yellow and black.

Well folks, below are the pics that I promised of your new purchase last week. We are awaiting the rear rotary accent and the yellow door edge guards to come in the mail, since they have already been ordered. We also had our windows tinted 4 days ago. 20% on the rear and quarters and 35% on the passenger/drivers sides which is law. We've also added a chrome bordered license plate holder with a tinted faceplate covering. Since it is law to have the front plate on in Missouri, it really looks great! We wanted to buy the best plate covering to mask a normal plate and let me tell you, this is the one. They can be purchased at Advance Auto Parts locally. They not stocked long since they are a very popular seller. We would like to hear about speaker upgrade options, since we don't think that the stereo or speakers are the best in this vehicle. I personally like infinity speakers, but what do you all think? How about the stereo? Do you think that could be the sound quality that is lacking, or could it be mainly the speakers? Thanks!

Nice picsIt's the plastic of the front bumper that's black. Pretty sure the undercoat is white or a light grey. If you happen to have a chip on your hood you'll notice it's not black.

And Stinger, great photoshop job with that pic you use for your avatar. It's cool.

Well my hood must have been a black one before. its black under the chips.
And I found out this weekend the Yellow touch up paint fades to a beigeish white.

It's the plastic of the front bumper that's black. Pretty sure the undercoat is white or a light grey. If you happen to have a chip on your hood you'll notice it's not black.



Hachi: I have taken my yellow on two roadtrips already which unfortunately lead to more debris on the front of the hood. And all the chips on mine are BLACK. None of them are light gray or white. Either the undercoat is black like 09Factor said, or the paint is so friggin weak that rocks and things go straight through to the plastic.

I'm going to have to buy a bra for it next time I head out of town because this is just pathetic.

There are even more black chips on my bumper at this point, which really pisses me off, but what can you do.

Well, I can't speak for other yellow cars. But on mine, where I have had chips on the hood and rear side quarter fender (i.e. the metal body parts), the undercoat was a light grey/white color, not black. But many rock chips don't stop at the undercoat, they'll cut right through to the metal or plastic.

I believe the chips on the nose are going right through the paint to the plastic and that's why you see black. Think about it, if Mazda really did use a BLACK undercoat, it would take many layers of paint to create the look of Lightning Yellow. So I really think what you guys are seeing is the bare plastic & metal, not the undercoat paint.

Paint chips is something we all live with, doesn't matter what kind of car or color. Only way to prevent it is to put a bra on like Stinger & 09Factor have done. I don't care for the look of a bra and take my chances. I have been lucky that my car hasn't had many chips. But the paint does seem to flick off of the plastic parts of the car easier than on the metal parts.

I know it is expensive but a clear bra looks great on yellow. No one know I have one on my car, even standing 4 feet away until I point out the seam. I highly recommend it. I have 20,000 on the car and not one chip in the nose. The hood has a few chips and the tuchup paint does not match as well a I would like. Stinger your tinted windows look great what is the %. My car looks the same buy I got the front splash gaurds (they look good to me and they really protect the bottom of the car from stone chips from the front tires)

As for the tint the doors are done in 25% (State Laws and all) while the visor strip, the wing windows and the rear window are 5%.

I also have to agree with the under coat being black. I ran my 8 for a week or two with out the bra and I have a few chips in the nose/bumper as well as 2 of them on the hood. The under coat is BLACK :mad: :mad: !!!

I have a lightning yellow, and I am thinking about painting the area on the hood that is shaped the the rotary black. What do you think?

The under coat is BLACK :mad: :mad: !!!OK, not to turn this into the great undercoat debate, but attached is a photo (sorry a bad one) of two nicks on my hood. The one on the far left did not cut all the way through the paint and exposed the white undercoat. The one on the far right did cut past all layers of paint and what you see appears to be black. But that's not the undercoat you guys are seeing, it's the bare plastic or metal. Next time you get a chip on the metal part of your car look really really close at the edges of the paint. It's hard to see the white because it's similar in shade to the yellow, the black on the other hand stands out like a sore thumb.

Anyway, to make up for the boring pic of yellow rectangle, I also include some shots of my car against Hawaii's blue skys and beautiful backgrounds.

I just don't have the extra funds for a clear bra or else it would be on there already. It comes off every freaking weekend, it's shook outand vaccumed. Every 6 mos it gets washed. Woolite dark seams to work well.
The Hood, fenders, and nose get washed, meguires #85, for really bad bug splats, polish to clean the clear and Techwax as a final coat.

It takes some time and work but beats out having crapped up paint.

Yeah, I do my waxing about once every other month. Don't really drive that much, the car is a garage queen, but it's true the color doesn't get as much shine as a black car would.

Not popular? Obviously you haven't been RX-8 watching in Vegas Baby. I was so proud to have one of the first Lightning Yellow's off the lot...Now they are EVERYWHERE! I mean all over...I had to get a "Vanity Plate" just so my friends could stop waving and honking at every yellow one they saw! Funny how location has everything to do with the brightest color Mazda offered!

definitely not common here, seems the duller colors are more popular here for all cars, not just the 8. I see vettes around that are silver, red, dark blue, same with mustangs, 350z, g35, etc. the brighter colors are very rare around Austin ;)

Ok..how does the clear bra stay on? I don't get it? I mean I understand the purpose, but I can't see it in any pics. It seems to good to be true. And BTW, what is the manufacturer that you guys used and how much $...not that $ matters at this point after filling in 12 chips after hubby does 128mph on the freeway last week. The parts guy at my Mazda has an 8 too and says fill in the chips using a toothpick or a needle...any other suggestions? Leather needle is working great but...man it takes 4EVER!
Also, anyone have custom leather yellow/black covers made? Regrets? I'm not sure I want to spend the $ to have the custom seats made.

http://www.xpel.com/products/paint.asp has plenty of info and is what is on my 8. I would post a photo but you can't see it in photo's. You only notice the seems when your about a foot from th car. This is not a DIY and will cost a couple hundred FYI.

To see what the bra looks like, check out the clear material down on the front of the rear fenders.

Filling the chips with something small like a toothpick keeps it from running over or building up too high. Just do it bit by bit.

I love the yellow & black leather seats - absolutely no regrets. Better leather than stock and I like the leather much more than the stock cloth I had.

Sprint Springs. 1.8" drop. I love them. it is low enough that i have to be very carefull pulling out of driveways, and speedbumps. but I have had pretty good luck. I am a firly carefull and aware driver.

Broke Apex, I know the Mazda speed body kit is "played out" but man I swear that is the best body kit for the RX-8, It looks soooooooo sweet. I only wish my car had the entire MS body kit, but then again I would have to raise the car back up. ;) car looks great man! diggin the wheels to!

yeah thats what I was saying a couple post up. I would have to go back up if i get any kit installed. sucks, because I kinda like the way it looks all lowered. I have not seen to many lowered 8's around.

not to mention I dont know when I will have the money to do it, but the short answer is yes. when i get a kit, I will go back up. :)

Wow, I thought I had yellow in my car! Were the control panels on the steering wheel part of a kit or did you do those yourself? I've seen the rest of the dash kit, but not those parts.

They were part of the kit... nice quality kit, I was impressed.

I agree. Yellow gets too dirty all the time. I wash it one day and it's back to shit within 2 days max. Never had this problem with Titanium Gray.

In fact I was pretty pissed after New Years because I waxed the car on the 30th of December. On January 1st in the morning my car was covered in all types of fire cracker/fire work related shit. The wax was basically pointless.

From now on I'm only washing once every weekend or other weekend.. and waxing once every 6 or 7 months. I just don't care enough nor have the motivation to maintain the insane upkeep that some of these other bastards on here do.

I own a Yellow and wash it about every two weeks. While light collard cars ‘seem’ to get dirty fast they look good longer than dark colored cars. My last two cars were black and they looked worse the days after a wash than my Yellow does.

I have a LY and think it stays relatively cleen. As long as it doesn't rain it looks good for at least a week. I wash it everyweek during the summer and once a month in the winter. I don't drive it much during the winter. I also keep it covered at night and when I don't drive it. That seems to work pretty good in keeping it cleaner. I'm very carefull in checking for dirt before using the cover.

I haven't washed mine since november 1st . The car is spotless.

The Pics of Fabienne are list in a flash-album. So you have to install the Macromedia Flash Player. If you look at "Media" you will find some wallpapers of Anastasia and Fabienne...

Well it looks like I'm fixing to be the crazy one and will be the first with a yellow X-men wing. I don't have it yet (ordered it last week) but will post pics as soon as I get it installed. I'm sure I will get flamed to all hell, but damn it I want to be different. These are some pics I shot a few hours ago to add my 8 to the list. All I've done to it so far is audio upgrades (custom enclosures 2 10" Kicker Subs and a 650 Kicker amp, and the fancy volume knob over in the GB section) I eventually want a set of staggered black HP evo's (or any similar Y style rim) but that got put on hold thanks to my expensive audio. I just recently got rid of my chrome feul door in favor of a stock yellow one. Hope you guys enjoy. Both pics make good desktops.

I have a yellow one with the factory appearance package wing on it. Would anyone that is wingless like to trade. I need one without a wing so i can install the new wing without filling holes and painting it. Figure ill do one last before i sell it.

I'll take shots soon of it lowered and with the new exhaust tips soon. I didnt' want to purchase an enitre new exhaust system . I find that the OEM exhaust pkg is fine . Nice and quite. For Rims.... I was looking at picking up some Axis Hiros, but i'm swaying toward multispoke. I'm really starting to like them . The axis hiros look great on yours!!

Pete, I obviously love the Hiro's. a friend of mine has the 19: staggered setup on his, I loved the way thay looked so much I went witht he same wheel (but 18" due to the drop) I have always been a 5 star fan. any pics of a wheel you are interested in? I also almost when with a tuner style wheel.

Ok, so I didn't want to start a new thread on this and I'm sure at least one of the visitors of this post will know. I read from an unworthy source today that there were only 1000 yellows shipped stateside. I know we are a rare color, but damn only 1000? That's only 20 per state. I doubt I've seen more than that and the number is feasable. But hell if it's true, it's bragging rights right?

I too belive 1,000 is rather low! It was one of the least produced colors, but I am sure it's more then 1,000.

Erm... not exactly. 200x5=1000 Last I checked we have 50 states. Now I'm no good at math and double checked with my handy dandy cell phone calculator and 1,000(number of "proposed" yellows)/50(number of STATES)=20. Can we have some bean counters verify this one for me. These are some staggering figures we are working with here. All kidding aside, any one know any official numbers as to how many yellows there are?

There can't only be 1000 Yellows. I'm pretty sure there is some old post buried on here that has the production numbers of colors. Supposedly there were only 2150 Black Cherry Shinkas that were produced last year. You're trying to tell me that they produced less of an "ordinary" color from the first year, than their "special edition" color? I doubt that.

the number for yellows is somewhere around 2600, I can't recall where I found that out, but I definitely remember reading it somewhere, I think my salesperson even mentioned that number 4 years ago when I was looking at what ened up as my car.

That sounds reasonable. I just recently saw another Yellow 8 here where I'm stationed in Jacksonville NC, I was PISSED. I was so happy being the only one. Other than that the 8's I've seen here on base have been pretty varied - red, white, blue, and black, and then myself. The other yellow I haven't seen on base yet, just out in town. Those numbers sound right though. Still pretty rare. Puts a :) on my face.

I've only seen 2 other yellows in this city in three years. Both were way the hell north of where I live. As far as I'm concerned, as long as I don't venture to those areas too often, I'm the only one.

Spoiler. Big time find yourself a spoiler. The Rx-8 to me is SO naked without one. Other than that, she's a beaut.

I disagree. It looks like he lowered his car, and a spoiler would ruin that "fresh" look.

A spoiler would look nice, but I have a carbon fiber trunk. Does anybody know if a spoiler would crack my trunk. What kind of spoiler could I put on it? I like the EVO wing but I don't know how that would look on my car. Any suggestions? :wiggle:

It's almost like owning an exotic sports car.

It screams for your attention, you only see one a couple times a month, and no one else in a 10 mile radius has one (unless you're unlucky).

But the best part is when you run into these brand new RX-8 owners out there who pull up to you and tell you they love your "custom" paint job. Bahahahaha. :lol2:

When the rx8 debuted and literally right until I bought my rx8 in April of 05, I saw more yellow rx8's than any other color. If I saw 3 rx's a week, two of them would be yellow. I honestly thought it was going to be a me too color, but ever since purchasing my 8, I have seen only one yellow and that was like a month after I got my car. LOL...where did all the lightning yellows dissapear too?

This is my 2004 with navigation and all the options. These are my custom 18 inch wheels. They are staggered. 40 series tires on the front and 35 series on the back. I don't have any mods done to it and probably wont. It doesn't need any in my opinion, except for maybe a K&N. I had an 01 Mustang GT convertible that was really fast and this car runs the same quarter and 0-60 time.

They obviously have them somewhere, I wish MNAO was as friendly as Mazda Australia on this stuff. Seems like it would be good PR to supply the data to enthusiasts. I'll bet 1000-1500 is about right, but Mazda didn't set specific production numbers like the Shinkas.

I think speeddemon's yellow 8 looks better than the car that has the full Mazdaspeed kit. There's just something sharper and more sophisticated about it. Then again, I don't like the second shot because it shows too much of the metal holding up the spoiler. Guess I'd just have to get used to that. But that strakes, clear corners, and rim combination is just sharp.

Also on that second yellow 8 that has been dropped...it looks great in that profile shot with the rims and all, but that lip spoiler doesn't look right to me. :nono: Nice front bumper though. "Ferrari-ish" from the front.

Saturday I purchased a yellow 8 too!! No pics yet. :( Hopefully this weekend.

As I was doing my research on what I wanted, I KNEW as soon as I saw the yellow that was IT!!

She's spending the night at the Mazda dealer, tomorrow she'll get an oil change and a safety inspection (I didn't buy her from a Mazda authorized dealer), so I wanna make sure she's sound.

The noob that had her before me switched out her wheels/tires, but didn't put the monitors back on, so now the TPMS light flashes... and flashes... and flashes... and flashes :crazy: Makes me NUTS!! However, the Mazda dealer told me that since the TPMS is a federally mandated system, the dealer that sold her to me is responsible for putting it back together!! YEAH!!! <sux for him>
