Any body plan on gettin shoes for your Rx-8 or are Factory 18's fine.
I'm probably sticking w/ the factory shoes. What about you guys post pics if you can.

Buy a second set of stock from Mazda Motorsports (nee MazdaSpeed) - send to be polished (hopefully before car arrives).

Replace original set for the street with polished set.

Polish 2nd set as well.

Purchase SSR Competitions from Tire Rack

Mount Hoosiers on SSR Competitions.

Mount Kumhos on second set of the polished stock wheels (for rain events).

CraziFuzzy

Which Kumhos would you want? I have them on my car, and I really am not impressed with they're wet weather abilities. I have the Ecstas i think.

Edit: Just checked, I have the Kumho Ecsta Supras.. don't get me wrong, I LOVE these tires, but I wouldn't use them as my exclusive wet weather tires.

tpryor
03-14-2003, 06:21 PM
The Hoosiers and the Kumhos would be for Autocross, and there is no tire anywhere worse for wet conditions than a Hoosier A3S03 (or R3S03).

So, we keep a set of Kumho V700's just for rain conditions. This is a "race only" tire (even though, with the new compuond, it has the Ecsta name attached, just like several other versions of their tires) which should never be driven on the street for extended periods. It would wear out VERY quickly and could possibly overheat.

Sorry for the confusion - I too have Kumho's ("regular" Ecsta's) on for the street and have not been too impressed. Going to Michelin Pilot Sport Cup's next time.........

Hi Jon,

My "race" budget includes all of the money from selling my 10AE. I have been told by the "powers that be" that I can use ALL of it for goodies for the RX-8. I am going to spend it before anyone changes their mind (assuming anyone wants to buy the Miata, of course).

I've seen exact replias of those WORKS rims for half the price in Canadian $. If it's just about the look (which, most of the time it is) - there's a replica for everything. ;)

well, don't know for sure, and we'll find out soon enough. i went back and watched some of the laguna seca footage and the 18's dip pretty high into the well during turns, but anything is possible i suppose, hell there's a 70's cadillac in my neighborhood with 45" wheels, 4x4 :O

You would just go with a lower profile tire (if possible) to keep the same circumferance. Unless of course there is room then you would have to figure just how large you can go. Don't forget it messes up the speedo and odometer calibrations.

depending on what you plan to do with the car, i would look into getting different tires for the 8. the Spec 2s are better than the previous version, but it will not provide the proper grip in both wet and dry.

you don't wanna sacrifice the great handling that comes with the car with the wrong tire. don't ask me how i know....

volk racing wheels is excellent, they use them on a lot of the high end vehicles that are compete in the Japanese circuit. they are expensive but high quality. only problem with going 19" and larger is that the tires are expensive, in limited selection, and wear out fairly fast. Personally as far as tires go, I have little experience with riding on different tires, but I do know you get what you pay for. I currently have 215/35/19 Pirelli P7000s and would DEFINATELY reconmend them or get them again. Run flat technology is awesome - got a flat at school and it was fine to drive on for like 2 days without damaging the rim. at 10 psi it was fine. incredible tire technology and research is behind pirelli tires - that is why they use it in the WRC. also p7000 provides excellent traction in wet, and dry conditions. excellent tires.

as far as rims go, I really dont care if they are light or whatever, its all about the look. I am an artist so its my thing to like beautiful objects :) HRE wheels are custom forged to the customers' specifications and painted, etc. with meticulous care and quality. they are light also, but extremely beautiful and even the finest automobiles require the finest rims, HRE. for $1000+ a rim without tires... they better be!

check out my photoshopped pics of HRE wheels and Racing Harts on the 8, in the other aftermarket rim thread.

So what is the difference between the rims shown in the picture above and the what is stated as "polished 18' rimes" in the Dealers Accessorie Brochure?

Are you saying are three type of stock rims for the 8.

Standard Rims
Polished Rims
And what you call "Chrome" in the picture above, which you say is only available in Japan?

Anybody have a picture of the "polished rims" we can buy or is it the same thing as what is shown in the picture?

Thanks!

So, the RX-8 technical highlights CD says you can not use aftermarket wheels because of the Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors. If you do, the TPMS will be in constant alert. And yes, I have seen the picutures of other rims on the Japanese cars. But I believe someone pointed out they do not have TPMS.
