they're pretty good if your young and thats your price range. They have a new coupe coming out that is good looking. Since toyota makes them, you know their reliable.

There are a ton of options as well, you should check out their site, I wish mazdas was that nice.

i agree that toyotas are reliable, i believe that jd powers just ranked toyota as best for quality (again). i did not realize that they were cheap. 17-18k for a box? i must still be missing something. options, well, im not an options type of person i guess (i only have ths sport model rx-8, came with app. package as that was the best deal they gave me (off lot), i could have done without). also did nto realize there was an xA and xB. it is the xB i am basing my comments on as i see those around quite frequently (the xA just blends into the background with all other cars imo). xB still looks quite ugly imho!

theres also a Tc (tC?) that is a sporty FF car with a 160hp engine and an optional DIO supercharger bringing the car to 200hp, it also has panorama glass for a roof, like the new porsches. Its a neat looking car, very simple clean sporty lines, kinda like a softer rounder celica. good car to throw into the fray vs the likes of the RSX, Celica (another toyota, i know), Mazda 3, SE-R, Focus, and theCivic R. I'd like to give it a spin...although i wouldnt buy one, ive never ever ever going back to FWD or AWD

yea actually these are supposed to be "cool" atm...a bit like Honda's Element, it's in with the youth crowd because it's cheap and it looks different...

I know some 18 year olds, and they all think Scion is lame - like a poor person's car. But one of their friends is trying to get the boxy van and put on 20" wheels on it.... so who knows.

The new Scion car doesn't look bad, the moonroof looks cool. But there is only so far that you can go when you market yourself as a "cheap alternative".

i personally really like the new Scions. THE WHOLE LINE! i drive the xA at GM AutoShow in Motion and was suprised. It is like a coupe version of the Corolla.

xB is actually a car im lookin at for a daily driver. I give Toyota Credit they have the best name for Japanese Luxury Line a great midrange car, great trucks and now a low range car to attract the youngins. I am SURE this is going to be copied soon by Honda, Nissan. As i see it now they are dominating the japanese import market.

I actually see more Camrys then Civics now not to many corollas any more.

The first time I saw one I was reminded of the old soapbox derby cars. I'm going into business as an aftermarket supplier specializing in Scion stuff... complete with bolt-on soup cans, (for "headlights"), wooden running boards, that'll be from old international shipping crates; where I'll charge an extra $20 to leave the original nails in!,(you'll have to sign a waiver for that option, though). I've got my marketing, and R & D guys working on developing the catalog now...
It was suggested by another RX-8 owner that the Scion, Aztec and Element are proof that car manufacturers know no limit when it comes to proving that they can not only produce, but successfully sell the most butt-fugly cars they can come up with. :D

I was thinking the same thing. Advertising hype can sell anything.

Like I said, millions of fruit cakes are sold every holiday seaso.n , yet I've never actually met anyone who eats them.

If they can sell fruitcakes, they can sell scions!!

well first off i like the room inside the car. The head room is crazy! 2nd i wanted something different, that looks unique. ima person who likes to stand out. which is one of the reasons i got the RX8 over the EVO.

Finally and most importantly.. its an affordable Toyota which mean realiable. its slow.. fine i have the RX8 for my need for speed. This is for daily use so i wanna nice slow car which is realiable with good gas mileage

I didn't like 'em 'till I sat in one. You could be six feet tall and wear a top hat, and still fit into the xB. Anyway, they may be quirky and you can hate on them all you want but that won't change the fact that people will buy them. The cool part about it is, they're cheap to begin with, the price is unchangeable (ala Saturn) and you can finance accessories at the dealership. Like if you wanted HIDs, a TRD supercharger and a suspension package.

Also, they're built in Japan.

I saw some pictures of the coupe and it looked quite nice and appeared to be offering a lot for the money. I'm just curious as to what the designers were thinking with the boxy one. I think its just ugly, like the Honda Element. When I was looking for a new car I stopped by a Toyota dealer to see what they had I was explained that for young people such as myself (24) these vehicles ideally support my life style. ????? Who comes up with this crap? When buying cars I would think that emotion, style and beauty have something to do with it. All I can say is that I’m glad I went with the RX-8.

yes! it was the xB, the boxy one that i don't get. at the local car show (every weekend, bring anything), there were not one, but 3 of them! i feel like tom hanks in BIG, I Don't get it!!!!!

glad u went with the 8, scion (especially the xB) was NEVER a consideration for me!!

actually these kind of cars are called K-karts in japan and hong kong and some other asian countires, which have pretty good sales in fact. i like the idea of scion, so it can reduce the amount of corolla on the street! :D

thats what i dont get. i know they sell well in asian countries, and i think they race those boxy things. so far, the only arguement presented in this trhead was that theya re cheap and roomy. for cheapness, you can by many makes of vehicles (nissan ser spec v for example) you can buy. unless ur 6'6, do you need all the room? my remark was the xB (BOXY one) sells well, why? is it minivan folk that are buying these? no, i see many younger generation buying these, and that's what i don't get. at the show this weekend, saw 3, all owned by younger generation (20-25 lets say). they had carbon fiber hoods. CARBON FIBER? the xB (BOXY one) has to be the most inefficient drag reducing thing i have ever seen (aside from the stealth fighter (brick) since they never bothered to take the second dervivative....)

I think Toyota put emphasis on marketing Scion for young people who can't afford to buy sports cars or big ugly, road hogging SUVs. I praise Toyota for putting out the Scion; YOUNG PEOPLE *COUGH COUGH* TEENAGERS SHOULDN'T OWN SPORTS CARS!!

This one is pretty sweet. I think it just came out. You can get a TRD supercharger for it.
