I am thinking about changing out my 8's silver accents for the carbon fiber Mazda accessories. Its $550 for everything, which really isn't that much. Just wondering if people on here have done that.

I thought about it
but you can just get a carbon fiber dash kit for half the price

the carbon fiber dash kits are just stickers and are horrible. IMO I had a set on my '03 tiburon and took it off the day I put it on. This however is a dirrect replacement. It is actually a good deal for $550, but I wouldn't like the piano black on the CD, AC, etc. controls. Does mazda make a replacement panel for that maybee?

Is it true carbon fiber or just carbon-look? Looking at pictures I'm not convinced it's for-real.

I was told that it was real CF. They are direct replacement parts and not just stickers. I will probably be getting this in about 2 weeks. Will post pics then when all the mods below are on my car, including the CF interior. I am still waiting for my current order in transit from Trussville Mazda.

I had that same "faux" carbon in my 10th Anniversary Miata. Trust me, not only is it fake, but a bad fake. There's no depth to the pattern, it's just printed on the plastic.

They may be printed plastic, but they still look better than the stick-on kits IMO. The only thing is they're priced like real CF, and as mentioned above, the pieces replace only some of the piano black trim. If they replaced all of them (i.e. the piece around the stereo and AC controls) I'd be more tempted.

real carbon fibre is stupid expensive. I have worked in a lab where we impact tested carbon fibre and it was about $50 per square foot for 1 layer of laminate, a typical buildup i would guess to be around 30 layers. Now this cf came with self adhesive resin so its a little more expensive, but still. much $$$$

On top of that, its not very pretty stuff.

I had some real carbon fiber trim in my 3rd gen--and it was the "sticker" but I was surprisingly impressed with it. I love real carbon fiber dashes. In the RX8 I think I'm going to stick with the Piano Black, I plan on adding the door handle trim.

Aren't the controls on the opposite sides? They must make a kit for us drivers on the left, because i have only seen the kits for drivers on the right side and it is carbon look, not real CF, but all in all not bad looking.

Anyone know what the button next to the [L R] rocker switch for the wing mirrors is?

On the UK cars this is a blank button.
